Bi Danyuan was taken aback. "Why are you cleaning it? It's just a punishment. Who's actually going to come check if you scrubbed it clean?"
Tan Jiaojiao glanced at Bi Danyuan and let out a cold sneer. "Is this how you young people work?"
She shook her head, throwing the rag onto the floor and splashing water everywhere. "I think that Nan Yue is the same way—doesn't take the work seriously, just all talk."
Bi Danyuan had a sweet appearance and wasn't as aggressive as Nan Yue, so Tan Jiaojiao was even less restrained around her.
Bi Danyuan leaned in closer when she heard this, a smile on her face but none in her eyes.
"I'll remind you one last time: if you keep acting so recklessly, I wouldn't mind being the only... scavenger left in this department."
The last three words were spoken very softly, but Tan Jiaojiao heard them clearly.
She felt a chill run through her entire body. By the time she looked up, Bi Danyuan had already walked away.
Tan Jiaojiao stood frozen in place. She finally realized something was wrong with her. She had always been impatient, but not to the point of causing major trouble.
Yet this mission seemed to be her nemesis; the more anxious she got, the easier it was for things to go wrong. She didn't know what had happened today, but several times she had been led astray by the company's rules, nearly forgetting she was here to complete a mission.
And what Bi Danyuan just meant... was it what she thought?
Bi Danyuan wandered around the warehouse with a broom. Staying in this warehouse for too long was uncomfortable because everything was too orderly.
Looking at it for a while gave one the illusion that people, like the objects here, should be neatly arranged in their place.
Bi Danyuan walked deeper into the warehouse, leaving Tan Jiaojiao and the other two far behind. Her mind was firm as she kept her head down and moved forward.
As she walked, she began to feel as if she were the only person left in the warehouse.
The incandescent lights above were bright, and the sound of her footsteps echoed quietly until she finally stopped.
Before her was a wall, against which leaned a shelf packed with goods. The shelf, at least two meters high, was filled to the brim.
But Bi Danyuan saw it—a very inconspicuous, black outline on the wall behind the shelf.
There was a hidden door here.
...
When Gu Xiang Kai was about to leave the company, most people were still working. In the sales industry, starting out meant making endless phone calls.
Gu Xiang Kai was no exception, but he had a masculine appearance. Generally, as long as he was the one handling clients who came to the company to discuss business, he could close the deal.
Therefore, his department head valued him highly and planned to submit a report tomorrow to approve his promotion to v8 employee next week.
Word had already gotten out, and everyone treated Gu Xiang Kai with even more respect.
The Sales Department was the noisiest place, filled with the sounds of phone calls, smoking, arguments, and complaints after hanging up. Even though it was late at night, it was still loud.
Among them, one man's voice was particularly loud.
"Damn it! Motherfucker!"
He slammed the phone down and cursed a few more times. Gu Xiang Kai glanced at him, his eyes narrowing as he walked over.
"Brother, don't get so worked up."
Zhang Haojun turned around and saw it was the rising star of the Sales Department, causing his aggression to drop significantly.
"Brother Gu."
Gu Xiang Kai frowned slightly. "Do you want to go out for some fresh air?"
Although Zhang Haojun still had a few more calls to make, he didn't want to refuse Gu Xiang Kai, so he followed him out onto the balcony.
"Brother Gu, I'm sorry about my attitude earlier, but that customer was too infuriating. He dragged me along for two days only to tell me today that he already signed with another company."
As Zhang Haojun complained, Gu Xiang Kai just smoked his cigarette in silence.
When Zhang Haojun realized he was rambling and awkwardly shut his mouth, Gu Xiang Kai finally extinguished his cigarette and turned around.
"Do you still remember why we entered this company?"
Zhang Haojun was stunned. "We..."
Gu Xiang Kai's gaze was indifferent, and he carried a strong scent of tobacco. As Zhang Haojun looked at him, a cold sweat broke out across his back.
"We... we're here to complete a mission."
Gu Xiang Kai turned away. "Good, you haven't gone stupid yet."
Zhang Haojun leaned against the railing and gasped for breath, his shirt soaking through in an instant.
That's right, they were scavengers; they had come here to do a mission.
But he didn't know when he had started to forget...
It was as if he really was a newcomer who had finally gotten into his dream company and was desperately trying to climb the ladder despite his poor performance.
The pain of his previous insomnia and the flattery he used to please customers had all felt real.
Because of that, he felt even more afraid.
What had happened to him?
"Don't overthink it. You still have to do the work, but don't forget your objective."
Gu Xiang Kai left after saying that, leaving Zhang Haojun behind, still reeling from the lingering fear.
"Damn, that was terrifying!"
Zhang Haojun took a moment to compose himself before returning to his workstation and sticking a card that said "Work is the mission!" onto it.
This way, he probably wouldn't forget again...
Zhu Xi Ning stepped out of the Personnel Department holding a stack of documents, her expression grim.
The number of people resigning and joining this company every week was enormous, which wasn't normal at all.
Furthermore, she had found an opportunity today to look at everyone's salaries. Although the pay for bottom-level employees was extremely low and half was deducted for housing, maintaining so many people was still a massive expense.
But... did Blooming Media Company really need that many people?
Zhu Xi Ning had discovered that many departments didn't need so many staff; they were over-leveraged. Why would they still do this?
Zhu Xi Ning was deep in thought. Although this mission seemed very strange because a company like this shouldn't exist in their world, and so many people wouldn't willingly work like this, everything else felt normal.
There was no distorted space-time or eerie death rules.
But that shouldn't be the case.
This was a contaminated world. No matter how normal it seemed, there had to be a point that completely defied common sense.
Zhu Xi Ning felt they hadn't found that point yet.
She flipped through the register in her hand while a young assistant ran back and forth nearby. Zhu Xi Ning called out to him.
"What's the specific situation with this Zhao Mingran?"
She frowned, looking somewhat displeased. "I remember he joined in the same batch as me. How could he resign after only being here for a few days?"
The assistant immediately pulled up Zhao Mingran's information on the computer and explained in a low voice, "Oh, him. He didn't follow discipline on his first day. When the leadership went to communicate with him, he even started a big argument."
"You know how it is—out of so many people, there are always one or two with impressive academic backgrounds but terrible character. So, they let him go."
Zhu Xi Ning let out a cold sneer. "He certainly has quite the attitude, leaving without even processing it himself."
As she spoke, she pointed to the 'X' in the remarks column. "What's this?"
There was an 'X' after every resigned employee. Zhu Xi Ning hadn't noticed it at first, but later she felt something was off.
She suspected it might be some kind of code.
Sure enough, the assistant tilted his head to look. "Oh, that's the Mobile Division."
It was the first time Zhu Xi Ning had heard of it. "Mobile Division?"
The assistant only then remembered he wasn't supposed to talk about it. He was so panicked his lips turned pale.
Zhu Xi Ning flashed a smile and beckoned the assistant over.
"I've only just arrived too, I'm just looking for some gossip. What is the Mobile Division? I definitely won't tell President Fu."
The assistant looked left and right. Since he couldn't afford to offend Zhu Xi Ning either, he could only grit his teeth and speak with trembling lips.
