Wen Xiang Yuan hadn't expected Nan Yue to say that. She hesitated for a moment. "Um... what do you need me to do?"
Nan Yue smiled, thinking how naive this girl was.
"Our goals are the same. I can provide the clues I currently have, and I'd like to ask you to use your position to look for the things I need."
Wen Xiang Yuan tilted her head in thought and agreed immediately.
This time, it was Nan Yue's turn to be surprised. "Aren't you going to ask what I want to know first?"
Wen Xiang Yuan was eager to start. "There's no need. Like you said, our goals are the same. Whatever you're looking for will definitely be useful to me too."
That was true, but...
Nan Yue looked at Wen Xiang Yuan's glowing eyes... she seemed strangely excited.
Could she be a scavenger who had only recently started doing missions?
"How many missions have you completed?"
Nan Yue's current rank was higher than Wen Xiang Yuan's, so she didn't need permission to sit. She asked as if casually while eating.
"Um... the... third one."
Wen Xiang Yuan took a sip of water and spoke vaguely.
Nan Yue glanced at her a few times. Did that mean this girl was even more capable than herself?
To see her in the letter cities after only two missions, had she underestimated her?
However, now was not the time to ponder that question. Nan Yue shared some of her clues with Wen Xiang Yuan.
"Your boss, Liu Ming, is in charge of logistics. Yesterday, Zhao Mingran from logistics resigned. I want to know the reason for his resignation and the last time he was seen at the company."
"Also, there's Qi Qiao from the Logistics Department. She seems to know some clues. See if you can find anything out."
Wen Xiang Yuan carefully noted everything down. After the two of them discussed the details, Wen Xiang Yuan left in a hurry.
Today, Sister Lian was away. Linda was the one following along, supposedly to handle some financial disputes.
Linda had given Nan Yue two full pages of tasks, which might not even be finished by the end of the day.
Nan Yue sighed. As expected, there were many troubles on the path to promotion.
For instance, a direct supervisor who wasn't pleased with how quickly you were rising.
Nan Yue called Vivi over. "Go and call Xiao Song and the other one here."
Work was about reasonable division of labor, so Nan Yue felt no pressure at all as she distributed the tasks among Vivi and the other two.
In reality, the workload for the secretary post wasn't completely saturated, especially for those like Vivi and Xiao Song who were mainly responsible for serving tea and water.
However, they weren't allowed to slack off either; they had to stay focused and work seriously at all times.
Nan Yue observed that their 'serious work' consisted of typing out the company manual word for word on their computers.
In that case... they might as well help her with her tasks.
Vivi and the other two weren't unhappy at all. They accepted the work almost respectfully, feeling that it was a sign of the leader's trust in them.
Moreover, this was a promising leader who had already reached V7 within just a few days of joining the company.
Nan Yue shook her head and opened the Feishu app during a break.
There were too many people in the company, and the scavengers hadn't communicated beforehand. She only remembered a few of their names from the self-introductions.
She searched the employee list from memory. Among those she remembered, only Zhao Mingran's profile picture had turned black, with 'resigned' appearing after his name.
The problem was that she felt there should be at least ten scavengers in this mission, but she only remembered about ten names. She wondered if the others were still alive.
Nan Yue thought for a moment and then went to the 10th floor.
The Branding Department was the closest to Sister Lian's workplace. As soon as she arrived, the department head came running over.
"Sister Nan, do you have any instructions?"
Nan Yue looked at the man, who was at least ten years older than her, and wondered how he could call her 'Sister Nan' without any psychological burden.
"I'm here to learn. I learned a lot while following Sister Lian yesterday, so I wanted to understand more."
The department head's eyes filled with admiration. "As expected of Sister Nan, you're so thorough."
"Hey, you, come here. Take Sister Nan for a tour of the department, and then have each Team Leader come out to answer any questions Sister Nan might have."
Nan Yue saw the face of the woman the department head pointed to stiffen. She didn't seem to fit in with her surroundings. Nan Yue knew immediately that this was likely a scavenger.
The woman was older, with shoulder-length short hair and a round face. She walked over and stood formally to the side.
"What's wrong with you? Don't you know any rules? Can't you greet people? Can't you introduce yourself? Where are your manners?"
The department head didn't hold back at all, scolding her harshly. People in the department looked over, some openly and some covertly, to enjoy the spectacle.
The woman's face turned bright red, and she lowered her head with some resentment. "Hello, Sister Nan. My name is Tan Jiaojiao."
Nan Yue observed her discreetly. She noticed that Tan Jiaojiao must have been working overtime for several days, as the documents on her desk were piled high.
Being called away to do this while busy would certainly be frustrating. However, in this company, it was clear that lower ranks had to obey. As a scavenger, the most important thing was not to let emotions affect one's reason.
"It's fine. She can show me around. Don't let me delay your work."
Seeing that Nan Yue didn't mind Tan Jiaojiao's lapse, the department head breathed a sigh of relief and glared at Tan Jiaojiao. "Introduce things properly."
He practically said those words through gritted teeth. Tan Jiaojiao bit her lip but didn't say anything else.
The two of them walked slowly through the department. As Nan Yue walked and observed, she saw a young girl with two braids who discreetly looked up and gave Nan Yue a subtle wink.
Nan Yue checked her name tag: Bi Danyuan.
A very smart girl who knew why Nan Yue had come.
But Tan Jiaojiao was different. Perhaps stimulated by the work or the company's hierarchy, she was now too immersed in her role.
Her mind was filled with the public criticism she had just received, and she could feel those burning gazes on her.
Most of these people were younger than her, and being lectured so mercilessly in front of everyone hurt her pride.
As she thought about it, her resentment began to radiate toward Nan Yue.
She wasn't stupid; she knew Nan Yue was looking for companions, since bottom-level employees like them had very little free time.
But thinking about it only made her feel more unbalanced.
Everyone in the company knew Nan Yue was the fastest-rising newcomer, but why?
Nan Yue, Zhu Xi Ning, Wen Xiang Yuan, and Lan Jing Shui had started two levels higher than everyone else. It was completely unfair!
It must be because the recruiters only cared about looks and chose these attractive people.
While working, she had heard the surrounding gossip that Liu Ming loved beautiful women, which was why Wen Xiang Yuan was chosen as his secretary.
Tan Jiaojiao felt disdainful and even more resentful. If she weren't a bit older, she wouldn't have had to struggle from the bottom.
Nan Yue noticed Tan Jiaojiao's emotional state was off and was about to warn her, but she didn't expect...
It was already too late.
