Based on her investigation of Nan Yue, Fu Xi Ming knew the girl wasn't the type to rush into a mission.
It took a while before Fu Xi Ming replied to Nan Yue.
Fu: Go. I'll wait for news of your return.
Strongest A-Nan in History: Did you use your ability? What did you see?
Fu Xi Ming felt a bit helpless. At the start of their negotiations, Nan Yue had seemed calm and rational, with a hint of unscrupulous cunning.
How was it that as soon as their partnership was confirmed, this person immediately became so cheeky?
And her intuition was remarkably sharp.
When Nan Yue didn't get a reply, she began a frantic barrage of messages.
She was actually uncertain about the secret Wen Xiang Yuan mentioned and wanted to know what Fu Xi Ming's foresight could reveal.
After a long time, having been hounded until she had no other choice, Fu Xi Ming finally replied.
Fu: I didn't see anything. I only had a perception.
Fu: You will be very important to me.
Nan Yue's heart skipped a beat. Wen Xiang Yuan really did know the secrets of this world.
Even though she was just a native of the pollution world, she wasn't a bird trapped in a cage. She knew what the sky outside really looked like.
Nan Yue had wondered before if their skies were the same.
Now, Fu Xi Ming's intuition told them that they were.
At the very least, they were closely intertwined.
Strongest A-Nan in History: Then did you see me return safely?
Fu Xi Ming laughed out of sheer exasperation. Nan Yue was clearly someone very confident in her own abilities, and saying this was just her pushing her luck.
She was so arrogant that she naturally believed she would return safely.
Yet she still wanted Fu Xi Ming to acknowledge it.
Fu: All I know is that if you don't come back, I won't get what I want.
Nan Yue felt a bit of regret that she hadn't achieved her goal.
Strongest A-Nan in History: I'm leaving now.
It wasn't until Nan Yue and the others reached the Purification Center, which was shaped like a giant tent, that she received another message from Fu Xi Ming.
Fu: Safe travels.
Nan Yue's lips curved upward. This was the first time they had entered a mission feeling both anticipation and trepidation.
"Beauty is Justice Squad. Residence: Eagle City State. Participating Project: Scavenger Daily Work."
"Evaluation Format: Team Evaluation. Current Team Members: 5."
"Multiplayer Evaluation Mission, Code 82734: Dawn Rubber Factory."
"Objective: Uncover the Secret."
"Wishing you a successful evaluation. Eden is waiting for you."
Nan Yue was stunned for a moment. The objective of this mission was actually to uncover a secret, which was exactly what she and Wen Xiang Yuan intended to do in the mission.
Was this a coincidence?
Or was it some sort of divine hint from providence?
As the darkness dissipated, Nan Yue found she was no longer standing with the others. She was alone in a small room.
The room wasn't large, but it was very cozy.
The sofa was fabric-covered, protected by a crocheted throw to keep it from getting dirty while serving as decoration.
A coffee table covered with a plastic tablecloth sat in front of the sofa, with two bright red apples placed on top.
The television cabinet looked old, with its finish peeling to reveal the wood grain underneath.
A small black-and-white television sat on top, its long antenna stretching upward.
Beside the sofa was a double bed covered with pink floral sheets, and two pillows were draped with towels featuring mandarin ducks playing in the water.
A wedding photo hung on the wall at the head of the bed, showing Nan Yue and a stern-looking man.
The man wore blue worker's overalls, while Nan Yue wore her hair in two braided pigtails and was dressed in a red dress.
The room was small, yet it somehow fit a floor-to-ceiling yellow-brown wardrobe. It had three doors, but the middle one wasn't a door; it was a full-length mirror.
Narrow and thin, it reflected the woman standing before it.
Nan Yue raised an eyebrow. Her clothes had changed too, replaced by a light gray shirt and trousers, complete with two pink oversleeves.
A rabbit ear was embroidered on each oversleeve.
Nan Yue's hair, which had been shoulder-length, was now styled into two braided pigtails, giving her a more gentle and simple appearance.
Nan Yue walked around the room. It was small and many things were old, but it was well-maintained. The blankets and sheets were washed clean.
A glass vase sat by the window, looking somewhat out of place in this room.
It was half-filled with water and held several bright daisies.
Someone in this house truly loved life.
Nan Yue looked at her oversleeves and guessed that person was herself.
There was another room outside. A folding table stood against the wall, and several red plastic stools were stacked neatly in the corner.
A wooden cabinet was stuffed with bowls, chopsticks, oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and tea.
This was Nan Yue's home in the mission.
It had two rooms in total. The small outer room served as the dining area, while the inner room was the bedroom for resting.
There was no kitchen, toilet, or washroom.
Loudspeakers outside were playing old songs with a vintage feel.
Nan Yue wasn't in a hurry to go out. She pushed open the two shoulder-high windows in her small dining area to see the scene outside.
The window screen had a hole in it, which Nan Yue saw had been patched with paper.
Outside was a long corridor with a waist-high wall. Judging by the tree branches peeking into the corridor, this was likely the second floor.
Communal sinks and stoves were built along the corridor, next to high stacks of honeycomb coal.
There was nothing on the stove in front of Nan Yue's unit, only two clean wicker trays leaning against the balcony wall.
The neighbor's unit wasn't as tidy. The counter was greasy, a cast-iron wok was still sitting on the stove after cooking, and the faucet wasn't tightened, dripping water steadily.
Nan Yue had a rough idea of the era this mission was set in.
Considering the title, this should be the dormitory of the Dawn Rubber Factory.
In that era, a factory job was something many people desperately wanted. Many only got in through strong connections or by inheriting the job from their fathers.
It was a highly coveted position.
The work was stable and came with housing. The factory was like one big family where people worked, lived, and rested together.
The world of the factory workers was only as large as the factory itself. Life was very structured, and everyone was a familiar face.
Nan Yue stood quietly by the window. In these living conditions, where everyone cooked side-by-side, what secret could there be?
Moreover, this mission was a bit special. It was an immersion mission, but not a collective one like Antswamp Village where everyone was a student visiting the village.
This time, everyone had their own task. Before they could find the so-called secret of the objective, it was more important to discover their own character settings.
There was one strict death rule in these immersion missions.
You could not drop the act.
Once you dropped the act, the pollution world would directly erase you.
Nan Yue turned and went back to the bedroom to search through the nightstand.
In the two-layered drawer, she found a biscuit tin in the bottom layer. Inside were a marriage certificate and some miscellaneous documents.
The woman Nan Yue was replacing was named Li Hui, and her husband was named Xiang Guang.
Xiang Guang was a truck driver, and Li Hui was a warehouse manager.
Nan Yue didn't know much about the job roles in a rubber factory, but based on her analysis, both of their roles were quite good and didn't involve heavy labor.
