Miss Wen's restless expression settled, and she gave a gentle smile that was nearly identical to Wen Xiang Yuan's.
"You're right. Besides, this blood was smeared on me by others."
Nan Yue had not yet grasped the meaning of Miss Wen's words when a knock sounded at the bedroom door.
"Miss Wen, are you in there?"
Young Master Chu opened the door without waiting for a response. Upon seeing the two people inside, he flashed a delighted smile.
"Young Master Chu, my brother is currently handling family matters. It's not quite appropriate for you to be here, is it?"
Miss Wen looked at him coldly, her hands resting on the sides of her wheelchair clenching slightly.
"It doesn't matter. Master Wen invited me himself."
His gaze shifted to Nan Yue. "You don't need to leave either. I noticed you earlier, and I find you quite interesting as well."
Nan Yue looked at him expressionlessly, standing behind Miss Wen like a dutiful maid.
Nan Yue wondered what Miss Wen meant by having blood on her hands. How could a disabled person kill anyone?
The main storyline had progressed significantly, yet the eerie and strange existence within the castle remained unexplained.
However, even as Young Master Chu approached and his hand touched Miss Wen's smooth, delicate skin, she showed no reaction.
Aside from a slight tremor of disgust, she remained still.
Nan Yue stopped testing the waters. As Young Master Chu's other hand reached for her own, she caught his wrist in a reverse grip.
"Young Master Chu, as a guest, how could you steal something from our Wen family?"
Young Master Chu froze, then let out a preposterous laugh. "What are you talking about?"
"Oh, are you saying you two are the Wen family's property?"
Before his lewd banter could finish, a faint black mist seemed to drift through the air. Before he could realize what it was, a sharp pain pierced his heart.
Then, an overwhelming agony surged through him. He looked at the woman before him in disbelief. Her hands hadn't even moved; how did she do it?!
Young Master Chu tried to scream, but his throat felt as if it were blocked by something. He stumbled back two steps and collapsed straight onto the floor.
Young Master Chu was not dead yet. The intermittent twitching of his limbs proved he was still conscious, and the pain and panic in his eyes showed he could feel everything.
Nan Yue pushed Miss Wen's wheelchair back a bit. "Filthy."
That was her only explanation.
Miss Wen, who had been in a state of shock over Nan Yue's unknown actions, suddenly burst into laughter upon hearing those words.
It wasn't a funny scene by any means, especially as several bright red roses sprouted from the wounds Young Master Chu had clawed into his own throat. The sight was undeniably grotesque.
Yet Miss Wen simply felt like laughing. She laughed for a long time before slowly wiping away the tears that had seeped from the corners of her eyes.
"You're truly capable."
"To even get your hands on blood roses seeds."
Blood roses?
Nan Yue tilted her head slightly. Miss Wen watched the human vase of flesh, who was not yet entirely dead, with a look of pleasure.
"In my brother's office, the air is filled with blood roses seeds. These seeds don't need light, water, or even air; they use human flesh and blood as nutrients."
"As soon as they touch human skin, they burrow inside to take root and grow with extreme speed. They'll sprout from any wound on the body."
"If someone infested with blood roses is covered in countless cuts, the roses will compete to bloom across the corpse."
Miss Wen glanced at Nan Yue. Her gaze was now calm, even friendly.
"I didn't expect you to avoid the infestation and even manage to bring some out."
Nan Yue shrugged. "I didn't bring them out. Young Master Chu went into the master's office to steal something, and that's how he got infested."
Miss Wen laughed wantonly. "Hahaha! You're right. Hahaha! It's just a villain's retribution."
When Wen Chu arrived, he was met with a fully formed blood roses vase. His face turned extremely grim as his dark gaze swept over Miss Wen, Nan Yue, and the corpse.
He didn't quite believe that Young Master Chu would steal from him.
However, one could only be infested by blood roses by entering his office. Young Master Chu's corpse was now the evidence.
He must have used some method to get in, got infested, and only now did it manifest.
But how did he do it?
The various families of the federation had many talented and strange individuals. There was always a way if one wanted it.
But to say Miss Wen had nothing to do with this...
With a dark expression, Wen Chu ordered Butler Zhao to conduct a body search. He then left in a hurry; he had to negotiate now that a relative of the federal president had died here.
Not to mention that item... even if he had to destroy the Chu family, he had to find it.
Once Master Wen left, the interrogations ceased. No one knew exactly what he had lost or if it had been found.
Wen Shen carried Miss Wen to bed; these personal tasks had always been her responsibility.
In fact, even if Wen Shen didn't appear, Miss Wen would have Nan Yue call her in.
Miss Wen detested being touched by others.
Nan Yue felt that, given her history, it was easy to understand why.
"Go and rest."
Miss Wen looked at her. "You'll have a good dream."
On her way back, Nan Yue saw Jiang Siyan waiting in the garden between the western-style building and the castle.
"I heard Young Master Chu is dead."
Jiang Siyan spoke first. "So I waited here for you."
Nan Yue nodded, sensing nothing wrong. Gu Xiang Kai and Zhu Xi Ning were veteran teammates who trusted her.
Jiang Siyan had joined the team with a mindset of observing and researching how far Nan Yue could go. It was normal for him to be concerned about her.
"It's fine. I just used a small trick."
Jiang Siyan sighed with a hint of regret. "You beat me to it."
Nan Yue tilted her head. "You wanted to kill him too? Your ability isn't suited for killing. If you want to make a move in the future, let me know."
Jiang Siyan remained silent.
Jiang Siyan fell quiet beside her. Nan Yue glanced at him curiously, reflecting on whether she had inadvertently bruised his ego.
After a moment, Jiang Siyan chuckled softly, sounding somewhat helpless. "Very well. If there's someone to be killed in the future, I'll leave it to you."
Nan Yue, the shepherd dog, nodded with great conviction.
"That Miss Wen... is she Wen Xiang Yuan?"
Nan Yue was silent for a moment. "Yes."
Though she was reluctant to admit it, the more time she spent with Miss Wen, the more she realized she was indeed Wen Xiang Yuan.
Certain innate traits, thought patterns, and behavioral habits of a person do not change.
"She's more like a Wen Xiang Yuan from a parallel timeline."
Because of their different experiences, she had become who she was now. But undeniably, she was Wen Xiang Yuan.
Jiang Siyan went quiet for a moment. "Then what do you plan to do?"
Obtaining the key from Wen Xiang Yuan would certainly be more convenient. Nan Yue was already by her side, and with Nan Yue's abilities, if strategy failed, she could always take it by force.
