Her first reaction was that this person was quite the grudge-holder.
He still remembered what Nan Yue had said at the psychological clinic last time.
Gu Xiang Kai set down four overflowing plates. "What was Dr. Jiang doing here?"
Gu Xiang Kai had the instincts of an animal and felt a natural awe toward the absolute strong, so he was very polite to Jiang Siyan.
"He said to find him if we need help."
Gu Xiang Kai raised an eyebrow. "That's good, then. I'm just afraid we'll have to pay back the favor."
Nan Yue was amused. Gu Xiang Kai thought very directly, but he often hit the nail on the head.
"By the way, remember to ask about any clues related to the ship."
Nan Yue gave careful instructions. "Don't even miss how much the other guests paid to get on board."
Gu Xiang Kai understood and ran off to get more food, this time not avoiding contact with others.
He was a handsome young man with thick eyebrows and large eyes, after all; plenty of wealthy women liked him.
Nan Yue was also being watched. A blond boy who looked like the typical playboy from a movie sat across from her, unashamedly sizing her up.
"You're very beautiful."
Nan Yue gave a brilliant smile. "Thank you. My name is Nan. And you?"
The blond boy was momentarily dazed by her smile. It took him a while to remember he was there to flirt.
He stared at the tear-shaped beauty mark at the corner of her eye and swallowed. "I'm Johnny."
Nan Yue pretended to casually tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "So, Johnny, is there something I can help you with?"
Johnny looked to be about twenty-three or twenty-four. Feeling somewhat suppressed by Nan Yue's subtle presence, his youthful arrogance flared up as he tried to regain control.
"I didn't see you during the first six days of the trip. Did you sneak on board?"
The scavengers had arrived wearing clothes suitable for action, which looked a bit out of place in a cruise restaurant.
The suit on Johnny across from her was clearly expensive, so it wasn't surprising he thought that way.
Nan Yue smiled. "Perhaps your ticket grade isn't high enough for you to see me."
Johnny's face flushed with anger. "My ticket is an A-grade ticket! This is the tenth anniversary of the Devil's Bay. Do you know how many people were waiting to get on board? It's not an opportunity just anyone can have!"
Nan Yue softened her attitude at the right moment. "So you're interested in the Devil's Bay too?"
Johnny huffed. "Of course. The legends of Devil's Bay are even on par with the Bermuda Triangle. But only Steve's technology and his ship can enter this place. Countless people would go bankrupt just for a chance to see it."
Nan Yue lowered her eyes slightly, looking indifferent.
"Is that so? I just find it boring. Aside from the sea, there's nothing but the sea."
Johnny couldn't stand anyone disparaging Devil's Bay and said irritably.
"How can that be the same! This is the Devil's Bay, where countless people have vanished! Its secrets haven't even been discovered to this day!"
"Haven't you heard? Only those approved by God can return from the Devil's Bay alive and unscathed!"
Nan Yue showed a perfect amount of surprise. "Really? We won our tickets in a lottery. I actually didn't even want to come."
Johnny let out a "ha," wearing an "I knew it" expression.
"You outsiders really don't understand. Let me tell you. Steve has always been obsessed with the Devil's Bay, but no one ever came back alive. Ten years ago, he entered the Devil's Bay with his first mate and a ship full of adventurers willing to sacrifice their lives for exploration."
Johnny lowered his voice mysteriously. "As soon as they entered the Devil's Bay, they lost radio contact. There was no news for over ten days, and everyone thought they were dead."
"But do you know what? Twenty days later, they actually came back! Not a single person died!"
Johnny's eyes filled with admiration. "Steve is the captain chosen by God! Since then, the Devil's Bay has officially opened its route. Only the brave can embark on this adventure."
"So you're the brave adventurers then?"
Johnny gave a dry laugh. "The Devil's Bay route is very mature now; there isn't much left to explore. But just being able to come in for a look is worth a lifetime."
Nan Yue nodded thoughtfully and shifted her gaze. "My friend is back..."
Johnny turned and saw Gu Xiang Kai. He sized him up critically and snorted.
"Since you're a lucky one, I don't mind making you a bit luckier. If you need anything, you can find me in Deluxe Cabin 05."
Johnny's hint was very obvious. Nan Yue pretended not to understand. He wasn't in a hurry and walked away slowly.
Gu Xiang Kai carried four small cups of ice cream.
"Wen Xiang Yuan wanted these."
He set the items down. "That wealthy woman just now said her husband is a loyal fan of Devil's Bay. She's here to accompany him."
"She even told me to go find her." Gu Xiang Kai's face twitched. "But she said they aren't allowed to leave their rooms after midnight, so she told me to go early."
Not allowed to leave after midnight?
Was this protection for the regular guests, or...
"Did you ask why?"
Gu Xiang Kai nodded. "She said it's because everyone on the Devil's Bay must obey the captain unconditionally. That's the only way to ensure they're brought back."
"Aside from that, there haven't been any other requirements for them."
Gu Xiang Kai had asked very detailed questions, getting to the bottom of every clue he found.
At that moment, Wen Xiang Yuan and the other girl returned, but they both looked a bit dejected.
"Those waiters are very tight-lipped. We couldn't get anything out of them."
Nan Yue shared the clues she and Gu Xiang Kai had gathered. "From the look of it... we can get clues from the guests, but not the crew."
Nan Yue pondered for a moment. "Be careful of the crew. They must know what this so-called adventure is. They're likely on the opposite side from us."
The adventure assigned by the mission came at the cost of lives. The crew sat by and even enjoyed their fear and confusion; they were certainly not people they could cooperate with.
"Sigh, the villagers of Antswamp Village were truly warm-hearted in comparison."
Wen Xiang Yuan sighed, leaving the other three at a loss for words.
Dinner tasted excellent. Nan Yue and the others rarely ate such things, but Wen Xiang Yuan was very familiar with them. She gave a detailed explanation of the differences in marbling and the flavor profiles of different parts of the sashimi.
"Different meats must be paired with different wines."
Nan Yue looked at Wen Xiang Yuan. Her every move was elegant and refined. Not to mention scavengers, even among the regular guests, few appeared more noble than her.
"After dinner, we'll take a lap around the cruise ship to familiarize ourselves. According to Johnny, we were on the ship for the first few days too, but Steve didn't let us out."
"In any case, we have a place to stay. We might even have items related to our identities."
Nan Yue instructed meticulously. "Also, try not to move alone. This mission is on a cruise ship. The map might not look big, but there are too many rooms. If something happens, we won't be able to find each other at all."
