Nan Yue stared silently at the documents on the desk. They were to be delivered to the 15th floor of the hotel.
At this height...
The employees here should be roughly the same rank as the five department heads.
She thought of what Song Ping had said: Jiang Su had stopped coming to work after going to deliver materials.
Or rather, she had died.
She looked up at Linda. The woman was smiling, her eyes—framed by exquisite eyeliner—brimming with malice.
"Fine."
Nan Yue gathered the materials and headed toward the hotel.
Normally, her ID card wouldn't grant her access to the hotel, but delivering documents was a different matter.
In fact, many low-level employees came to the hotel for various reasons, so the part-time waiters were already used to it.
Nan Yue registered the room she was visiting at the front desk. The handsome, sunny young man behind the counter looked at her with a trace of obscure worry in his eyes.
Nan Yue stepped into the elevator. She watched the indicator move up in silence until it stopped at the 15th floor.
Luxurious red wool carpets covered the hallway. Above the 12th floor, each person occupied an entire level. At the end of the corridor was a large door with a brass handle.
As Nan Yue approached, the door opened on its own. There were likely surveillance cameras in the hallway.
Inside the room was a man with rugged features. He was wrapped only in a bath towel around his waist, his upper body bare. The first thing he did upon seeing Nan Yue was look her up and down, then he flashed a smile. "Come in."
Nan Yue recognized him. He was Tan Xin's Chief Secretary and Lan Jing Shui's direct superior, named Zhu Xi.
Nan Yue didn't move. She placed the documents on the console at the entrance.
"Linda asked me to deliver these materials. I've brought them. Since you're busy, Secretary Zhu, I'll be going now."
"Who said you could leave?"
Zhu Xi raised an eyebrow, his eyes flashing with an abnormal, fervent heat.
"You women on the 18th floor are all beauties, and every one of you has a stubborn temper."
"You know who I am, so you should also know that if you don't listen to me today, your V6 status might turn into V10 immediately."
Seeing that Nan Yue seemed indifferent, the smile on Zhu Xi's lips widened. "Besides, it's very easy to find a reason to have you fired."
"No one wants to be fired. No one... wants the Mobile Division to get involved."
Nan Yue considered for a moment whether she should see what the Mobile Division actually was. However, since the Mobile Division meant certain death, she didn't dare take the risk.
She shook her head with a hint of regret. To Zhu Xi, this gesture looked like she was bowing her head in submission.
He produced a black whip from somewhere and tapped it against Nan Yue. "It's fine if you don't want to come inside. The carpet out here is top-quality too. No one else will come by."
Nan Yue found it strange. What was this man doing with a whip? Was he going to hit her?
Some people abused and beat their subordinates to demonstrate their authority.
Being hit a couple of times was nothing. They had undergone pain tolerance training, and Nan Yue herself was very good at enduring pain.
Just as Nan Yue was planning to let him hit her to vent his frustration, Zhu Xi swung the whip. A sharp whistle cut through the air.
"Take off your clothes."
Nan Yue was stunned.
Seeing her standing there in a daze, Zhu Xi lost his patience. He reached out, intending to grab Nan Yue's hair and drag her over, but Nan Yue caught his wrist instead. With a sickening crack, she dislocated it.
"Agh!!!"
A shrill scream echoed through the hallway. Zhu Xi had never known that a dislocated wrist could hurt so much. When those women screamed and begged for mercy, he had thought they were just fragile. Now that it was happening to him, he nearly burst into tears.
"Since you want to go into the room so badly, let's go inside and talk."
Nan Yue easily dragged the six-foot-tall Zhu Xi into the room and closed the door. A moment later, the door opened briefly as Nan Yue reached out to retrieve the whip.
"You... you dare hurt me! I'll have you fired!"
Nan Yue frowned. "Then I'll just kill you."
Zhu Xi froze, looking at her in disbelief. "What did you say?!"
Nan Yue surveyed the luxurious room. Strange objects were scattered everywhere, and there was an exceptionally large bed.
She walked to the bedside. The wall behind the headboard was covered in photos—all of them were of scantily clad women.
However, these photos were extremely bloody. Every person in the pictures was in agonizing pain.
Nan Yue didn't see Linda among them, nor did she recognize anyone else from the company.
The sound of wind rushed toward her. Nan Yue easily leaned aside to dodge a copper statue Zhu Xi had thrown, then she delivered a sharp kick to his kneecap.
Zhu Xi's knee exploded in pain. His leg buckled, and he collapsed to the floor, his screams growing louder.
"Why did you suddenly attack me? I was acting in self-defense."
Nan Yue tore down several photos. "I don't know if President Tan knows about your hobbies, but even if he doesn't care about you, he certainly wouldn't want your business to be brought into the light."
"The higher-ups might allow you to run wild, but you have to be able to keep things quiet. If this blows up, you'll be the first one they sacrifice."
"You can't kill me. You can only have the Mobile Division deal with me. Do you want to guess whether your secrets will have spread everywhere before that happens?"
Zhu Xi's face turned pale. He had followed Tan Xin for many years and naturally understood the man's mindset perfectly.
Tan Xin knew about his hobbies and knew he had ruined many female employees, but everything had been cleaned up. The big boss didn't care about the lives of those lowly insects.
But if this truly came out, he would definitely be the first person Tan Xin used to appease the public.
"What... what do you want?"
Nan Yue sat in a chair, looking down at Zhu Xi.
"I don't want to resign, and I don't want to see the Mobile Division."
"I'll keep these photos with me. Don't even think about messing with me."
It took Zhu Xi a moment to process this before he nodded frantically. "Fine, fine. Don't worry, your future position..."
"You don't need to worry about that."
Nan Yue added, "I won't be the only one holding these photos. If I ever disappear from the company..."
Zhu Xi's scalp went numb. He had never expected a woman who entered his room to walk out alive. He had been careless.
"Don't worry. I'll look out for you in the company from now on."
Nan Yue smiled. "I want to ask you about someone."
"Jiang Su."
After Nan Yue walked out of Zhu Xi's room, she heard him calling for a doctor. She thought back to what he had told her.
Zhu Xi remembered Jiang Su. Not just because Linda had sent her, but because she was different from the others.
She hadn't been intimidated by Zhu Xi at the start; she had struggled to leave. Even after she was crippled, she continued to resist.
It was the first time Zhu Xi had seen someone with such a strong will to resist.
Usually, even if employees were unwilling to do something, they would eventually accept it as long as a superior demanded it.
But Jiang Su couldn't.
Zhu Xi never expected that in a moment of inattention, Jiang Su would drag her broken leg and throw herself directly out the window.
That was the first time Zhu Xi had faced death so directly.
Jiang Su's incident had been easily erased. Not many people remembered her, and even Zhu Xi, who had been startled initially, gradually forgot her.
Nan Yue thought that as another person in the company who had committed suicide by jumping, Jiang Su's state of mind must have been very different from that of the male employee who couldn't get promoted.
