“Wait until I get inside.”
The burly man hung up and opened the car door.
The other two followed him out, while the driver went to find a parking spot.
“Give us an explanation!”
“Give Meng City an accounting!”
The crowd surrounding the Security Bureau was still shouting, holding up posters and banners.
The burly man acted as if he saw nothing, reaching out to part the crowd as he walked straight in.
Those he pushed aside were initially furious, but after seeing his massive frame, they instantly cooled off.
The three of them entered the Security Bureau just like that.
The atmosphere inside was heavy. No one’s state of mind would be good after learning they were being monitored by a Demigod.
The burly man looked around, his gaze settling on Wang Gen.
“Bureau Chief Wang?”
“That’s me.”
“I’ve been sent by Headquarters to transfer the transcendent materials. Code name: Ghost Tiger!”
Wang Gen’s eyebrows twitched slightly upon hearing this, while the security officers behind him looked on with admiration.
Being part of the Security Bureau, they naturally understood the internal regulations.
For instance, there was only one group of people at Headquarters who possessed code names.
The Baleful Stars!
They were the strongest combatants within the Security Bureau, with the minimum entry requirement being Sequence 6!
Furthermore, once someone joined the Baleful Stars, all traces of their previous life would vanish, leaving only a code name.
Because of this, the Baleful Stars were often tasked with the most dangerous missions.
Undercover work in cults, exploring secret realms, high-stakes rescues, and so on. It was no exaggeration to say that the Baleful Stars only played in the big leagues!
Wang Gen shook hands with him and then pointed toward the basement.
“The item is in the Hidden Vault. You can take it at any time.”
Ghost Tiger gave a grunt of affirmation and spoke as he walked in that direction.
“Tell me about the eavesdropping.”
Wang Gen repeated what had happened earlier. Hearing the details, Ghost Tiger couldn’t help but frown.
“An entity suspected to be a Demigod?”
“Yes.”
While speaking, the two arrived at the entrance of the Hidden Vault. Uncle Guo, dressed in his cotton robe, squinted at them. Wang Gen quickly explained.
“Uncle Guo, this gentleman is from Headquarters. He’s here to collect the Demigod's Skull.”
Uncle Guo studied him for a dozen seconds before smiling.
“Ah, a Chief, I see. No problem, I’ll open the door for you.”
He rose from his chair and used the old key to unlock the basement door.
Wang Gen beckoned to Ghost Tiger, signaling for him to follow.
Ghost Tiger nodded to Uncle Guo first, and Uncle Guo returned the gesture with a smile.
The two entered the Hidden Vault. The moment they stepped inside, they felt their spirituality being completely suppressed; only that faint sliver of divinity belonging to the Demigod remained active.
The Hidden Vault was lined with safes of various sizes, arranged neatly and labeled with serial numbers.
Wang Gen walked to a safe in the southeast corner. After multiple verifications, he opened it and pulled out a golden casket.
“Verify it.”
He handed the golden casket to Ghost Tiger.
Ghost Tiger didn't stand on ceremony and opened it right in front of Wang Gen.
As soon as the box opened, a foul stench of decay wafted out. Resting quietly inside was most of a skull.
The flesh on the skull had already begun to rot, and the lower jaw was missing.
It looked as if it had been violently torn apart by something!
A faint, ethereal divinity swirled within it, but even stronger than that divinity was a powerful aura of resentment!
The deathly resentment of a Demigod-level powerhouse was not to be underestimated.
If this thing were buried in a residential square, everyone in the neighborhood would go insane within two days!
Click.
Ghost Tiger closed the golden casket and nodded.
“Everything is in order.”
Seeing this, Wang Gen gestured for Ghost Tiger to follow him out of the Hidden Vault.
It wasn't until his spirituality returned that he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“I’ll leave the rest to you.”
“No problem. Before I go, can you describe that Demigod to me?”
“We don’t have accurate information. In fact, we haven't even been able to confirm if the other party is truly a Demigod.”
Ghost Tiger nodded.
The two walked out of the underground passage while talking. Ghost Tiger’s two companions quickly gathered around. When they saw the golden casket in his hand, their expressions grew even more solemn.
“Boss, should we have Horse Face bring the car over?”
“No need.”
Ghost Tiger simply tucked the box under his arm and walked out, as if it didn't contain a human head but some kind of fashion accessory.
The other two followed with grim expressions.
The moment Ghost Tiger pushed open the doors of the Security Bureau, the shouting reached them again.
“Give us an explanation!”
“Give Meng City an accounting!”
The voices grew louder, but Ghost Tiger strode out as if he heard nothing.
“Give us an explanation!”
“Give Meng City an accounting!”
A wall of people blocked Ghost Tiger’s path. He used the same tactic as before, brushing them aside like he was parting a brood of chicks.
Though the crowd was angry, they saw that these men weren't wearing Security Bureau uniforms and ultimately didn't stop them.
Vroom, vroom, vroom—
The sound of a car engine roared as Horse Face drove up to pick the three of them up.
Just as Ghost Tiger was about to get into the car, his heart suddenly throbbed violently.
“Hmm?”
He moved almost like he was teleporting, appearing instantly in front of one of the protesters. He saw the man’s right hand pressing a switch.
Seeing him rush over, the man ripped open his jacket, revealing a dense array of bombs strapped to his chest.
“For Meng City!”
Boom!!!
Flames erupted instantly, but just as they were about to spread, Ghost Tiger lunged forward. His spirituality generated an air wall, forcibly suppressing the aftershocks—exactly as Wang Gen had done back in Wang City.
The only difference was that Wang Gen had been delayed by breaking a barrier and the spiritual bomb back then had been incredibly powerful, leaving him only able to protect the people from the Security Bureau.
The one Ghost Tiger faced now was just an ordinary bomb, and he had plenty of time. For a Demigod, an explosion of this level was child’s play.
Boom!
Wang Gen also rushed out of the Security Bureau, but by the time he arrived, Ghost Tiger had already compressed the blast radius to within a single meter!
Following a flash of fire, the man who detonated the bomb was turned to ash, but not a single other person was injured.
The surrounding protesters watched, dumbstruck.
Ghost Tiger flicked his hand, and the air wall vanished, leaving a scorched stench in the air.
“Bureau Chief Wang, stay sharp.”
“Understood.”
Wang Gen’s expression was hideous. He waved his hand and shouted, “Arrest them all!”
Protesting was one thing, but carrying bombs was out of the question!
...
The car sped down the main street of Meng City. All four people inside knew that this mission wouldn't be easy.
“Boss, once we’re out of Meng City, let’s split up. You take the Demigod's Skull and go first; the three of us will drive to lure the enemies away.”
Ghost Tiger shook his head at the suggestion.
“We stay together. If something happens, I can—”
Whoosh!!!
A rocket propelled grenade with a long tail of smoke streaked toward the car!
Ghost Tiger smashed through the roof of the car, once again manifesting an air wall.
Only this time, he wasn't confining the explosion; he was confining themselves.
Boom!
Flames filled the sky.
Even Ghost Tiger hadn't expected these people to actually strike inside the city. Weren't they afraid the Security Bureau and the Command Center would send reinforcements?
Ghost Tiger lunged out from the flames, his demigod-level pressure radiating outward without restraint.
At the very moment he was ambushed, two other groups appeared almost simultaneously at the Command Center and the Security Bureau.
