“How much longer for the ambulance?”
“We already called; it’ll be here within two minutes!”
“Should we drive out to meet them? It might save some time.”
“Don't panic! We don't have a stretcher or professional equipment in our cars. Moving him around like that might make it worse. Wait!”
“Yes, sir!”
A group of people stood anxiously in front of the Security Bureau’s main gate, their expressions filled with concern.
Captain Li was usually very popular within the bureau. He always had a smile for everyone and had helped many of them in the past.
Now that he was suffering from a sudden seizure, his colleagues were naturally worried.
Captain Zhang stood anxiously by the stretcher. He was on good terms with Li Jianwu; otherwise, he wouldn't have allowed Li Jianwu to sit in on the interrogation, knowing it was against regulations.
“Li, hang in there!”
“You’re a medical professional yourself. You have to pull through. The ambulance is almost—”
His heart suddenly tightened as a powerful sense of impending death surged in his mind.
The spirituality within his body practically exploded. Instinct forced him to look toward the rooftop of the building across the street.
There was a dark shadow over two meters tall, holding something in its hands.
“Get down!!!”
Captain Zhang only had time to scream those words before the object in the shadow's hands flew toward them.
It was an RPG!
The rocket trailed a long plume of smoke, hitting its target with precision.
Boom!!!
Captain Li was in bad shape—black and blue all over.
And a piece of him was over here, and a piece of him was over there.
This was only because the rocket hadn't scored a direct hit; otherwise, Captain Li would have been reduced to dust.
The moment the rocket exploded, Wang Gen smashed through a window and flew out, his body hurtling toward the opposite rooftop.
His face was flushed red with rage; he felt as though he had been subjected to a massive insult!
To think someone would dare murder his subordinate right at the gates of the Security Bureau. How could he ever hold his head up again?
“You bastard!”
“Die!!!”
The aura unique to a Demigod surged like a violent ocean wave.
However, the dark shadow merely looked at him calmly before vanishing into thin air, leaving his pressure to strike nothing but empty space.
‘A summoned creature?’
Just as the thought occurred to him, he saw a figure wearing a transparent raincoat walking around a street corner.
Wang Gen gave chase without a second thought, but by the time he reached the corner, there was nothing in front of him—not even a trace of residual spirituality.
Wang Gen’s breathing was heavy as he looked up and roared.
“I will find you!!!”
...
A few minutes later, the ambulance arrived.
Although the person who originally needed the ambulance was 'gone,' the scene now had several others who required medical attention.
After all, the aftershock of an RPG blast was nothing to scoff at. Once the ambulance had carted those people away, a security officer hurried over to Wang Gen.
“Bureau Chief, the news that someone was murdered at our front gate has already leaked!”
“What?”
Wang Gen was already irritated; hearing this made him even more furious.
He grabbed the officer's phone and saw a live stream.
“Did you see that, family? This isn't a movie; this is actually happening in Meng City!”
“Just now, an RPG turned a security officer into mincemeat. My god!”
“Come on, everyone, send some gifts! I’ll post the recording of this stream tomorrow for everyone to see...”
Wang Gen’s expression was grim. He squinted at the perspective of the stream and quickly locked onto a location.
He handed the phone back to the officer and soared into the sky.
Boom!
The officer quickly looked down at the phone. A split second later, a loud explosion echoed in the stream as if something had smashed directly through a wall.
“You—ahhh!!!”
After a scream, the stream showed that the signal had been cut.
A short while later, Wang Gen walked out of a nearby residence, dragging a young man with a bruised and swollen face.
The young man looked defiant.
“So what if you’re a security officer? Without us taxpayers, you wouldn't even have shit to eat!”
“I’m telling you, this isn't over! I’m going to sue you for illegal law enforcement and breaking and entering!”
The security officer quickly saluted.
“Bureau Chief!”
The defiant expression on the young man's face instantly froze.
Wang Gen casually tossed a phone to the officer.
“This is the phone he used for the stream. He is now suspected of leaking Security Bureau secrets. Lock him up for twenty-four hours.”
“Yes, sir!”
The officer pulled out handcuffs and restrained the young man.
“Wait, just because you’re the Bureau Chief doesn't mean you can be unreasonable! I’m a big-time streamer! Do you know how many followers I have?”
Wang Gen ignored him completely, pushing him toward the officer.
“The news has likely spread. Call the Command Center and initiate a news blackout.”
“Yes, sir!”
Wang Gen returned to the Security Bureau with a face like thunder and headed straight for the basement.
The Hidden Vault of the Security Bureau was located there.
The basement was somewhat dim. An old security officer sat there with his hands tucked into his sleeves.
Even though the temperature in Meng City was nearly thirty degrees, he was wearing a thick cotton robe.
“Uncle Guo!”
Wang Gen’s attitude was extremely respectful.
Hearing the sound, the old man slowly turned his head.
His eyes were cloudy. He studied Wang Gen for a full ten seconds before realization dawned on his face.
“Oh, it’s the Bureau Chief. Your heart is in turmoil. Has something happened?”
Wang Gen nodded with a heavy expression.
“Just now, one of our colleagues was killed by a rocket launcher right at our front gate.”
The old man looked surprised. He hadn't heard of such an absurd way to die in a long time.
“You want to use a Sealed Object?”
“Yes!”
Wang Gen’s expression was resolute. The old man glanced back at the Hidden Vault.
“With your authority and strength, you can only use it for thirty minutes at most. Are you certain you can catch the killer within thirty minutes?”
Wang Gen gave a savage grin.
“With its help, I can catch the killer in ten!”
The old man nodded, pulled out an old key, and turned to unlock the door.
“From the moment you walk out that door, you have thirty minutes. If you are even one minute late, you will be eliminated by Headquarters!”
The previously kindly old man now radiated a killing intent.
“I know the rules.”
Wang Gen stepped into the Hidden Vault. About a minute later, he emerged carrying a book in his hands.
The old man silently lowered his head to his watch and began timing.
Wang Gen’s expression was incredibly solemn. He ran quickly to the gate of the Security Bureau and pointed the book at the crater left by the RPG.
“I want to know the story of this place.”
As he spoke those words, the book in his hands began to flip its pages on its own, finally stopping on a blank page.
Rustle, rustle.
Lines of text began to appear out of nowhere on the blank page, as if an invisible person were writing.
‘The story stems from a quest for vengeance. This butcher, who harmed countless children, has finally met his retribution.’
‘His soul should descend into hell forever. This manner of death was far too merciful for him.’
Wang Gen’s expression shifted repeatedly as he read the lines of text. He couldn't reconcile these descriptions with his subordinate. Finally, he gritted his teeth and asked.
“Who is the killer?”
Thud!
The book slammed shut on its own and fell to the ground.
This Sealed Object refused to answer the question!
