“Who did you say? My brother?”
Li Jianwu stood up with a start, his face a mask of disbelief.
The female security officer nodded grimly.
“A woman just came in to report a crime. She’s a nurse from our Meng City Hospital. According to her, the victim is the Director of Surgery, Li Jianwen.”
Upon hearing this news, Li Jianwu stumbled back.
“Where is she?”
“In the breakroom.”
“Take me to see her. I want to question her.”
However, the female security officer shook her head firmly.
“Captain Li! You should know the bureau’s rules. Whenever a case involves a family member, you must recuse yourself. Otherwise, it’s too easy for personal emotions to interfere.”
“Captain Zhang is currently in charge of the case. He knows you have a good relationship with your brother, so he sent me to inform you. He’s allowing you to listen in from outside.”
“As for the interrogation, you cannot participate directly.”
Li Jianwu clenched his fists tightly, his voice trembling.
“That’s my brother!”
“The brother who raised me!”
The female officer didn't back down an inch.
“That’s exactly why you should cooperate, shouldn't you? Only then can we clear Mr. Li’s grievances as quickly as possible!”
Li Jianwu adjusted his breathing.
“Fine. I’ll cooperate. I won't interrogate her. You said I could listen, right? Take me there.”
The female officer nodded, her expression becoming even more serious.
“Captain Li, watch your emotions.”
After taking several deep breaths, Li Jianwu nodded.
“Let’s go.”
The two of them went to the monitoring room and switched the feed to the breakroom.
Xiaowen was drinking coffee, her mental state appearing slightly better.
“You’re saying that person was a transcendent?”
“Yes. Director Li and I had already run out, but that person summoned a monster and kicked Director Li right back into the room.”
“And then?”
“And then I fainted. When I woke up, Director Li had been disemboweled, and his organs were scattered all over the floor.”
“That person was performing a sacrifice. Director Li’s body kept shrinking, and finally, with a flash of red light, both he and Director Li vanished.”
“Then why didn't he kill you?”
“Me? Why would he kill me?”
“You said you saw him. Why didn't he silence you?”
“Because he was there for Director Li! I told you before, he had Director Li’s files.”
Xiaowen’s emotions seemed very agitated. Captain Zhang, who was in charge of the interrogation, narrowed his eyes slightly.
“Why are you so worked up? What are you trying to hide?”
“What? I just went through all that, and you’re asking me why I’m worked up?”
“Are you an accomplice?”
“No! I’m not!”
Xiaowen’s agitation spiked instantly, her eyes turning red.
Captain Zhang remained aggressive.
“You collaborated with someone to kidnap Director Li, but he fought back, and you killed him by mistake before destroying the evidence!”
“But the surveillance caught your face, so you had no choice but to report the crime yourself, hoping to reduce suspicion. Isn't that right!”
Xiaowen was stunned by Captain Zhang’s words. She waved her hands frantically.
“It wasn't me, it wasn't me.”
“Then who was it!”
“It wasn't me! I didn't kill anyone! I didn't do anything! I’m a victim too!”
Xiaowen stood up abruptly, her coffee spilling all over the floor due to her violent movements.
“Instead of wasting time interrogating me, why don't you go catch the criminal!”
“I’m a taxpayer! I pay taxes to be protected, not to be interrogated like a criminal!”
...
Yunjing Haoting.
Captain Zhang frowned as he looked over the scene, while several forensics officers were carefully gathering clues.
“Find anything?”
“We haven't found any residual spirituality or any traces related to a sacrifice. In fact, we haven't found a single clue related to Li Jianwen.”
“No hair, no blood, not even a flake of skin.”
“If it weren't for some signs of habitation, the photos on the walls, and Captain Li’s confirmation, I wouldn't even believe this was Li Jianwen’s home.”
Hearing this, Captain Zhang’s frown deepened.
“Does that mean the woman is lying?”
The forensics officer shook his head again.
“Not necessarily. There is indeed some vomit at the scene.”
“The vomit matches the description in her statement. I checked the restaurant she mentioned and investigated their surveillance; she did indeed dine with Li Jianwen last night.”
“Furthermore, the surveillance in the building’s underground garage clearly captured her face.”
“This proves that Li Jianwen did return to the complex but never left.”
“The time on the surveillance and the time she reported the crime are less than an hour apart.”
“It’s virtually impossible to clean up the traces of a homicide so thoroughly within an hour. Therefore, I cannot rule out the involvement of a transcendent.”
Captain Zhang rubbed his temples, cursing his bad luck under his breath.
But since the incident happened in his jurisdiction, there was nothing he could do.
“Is there really no clue at all?”
“Well, not quite.”
The forensics officer pushed up his glasses.
“Although the transcendent and Li Jianwen left no direct clues, there are still some anomalies. For example, this table.”
The forensics officer pointed to the table in front of them.
“There are marks showing this table was moved, and there are marks on the floor as well.”
“While examining the traces, I found that these are marks left by moving a heavy object.”
“In other words, someone or something was once placed on this table.”
“According to her description, it should have been Li Jianwen’s corpse. That would match.”
“Based on this, I conclude that what she said is likely true. This case bears the mark of a transcendent!”
Captain Zhang reached into his pocket for a cigarette, but remembering this was a crime scene, he pulled his hand back.
“If it’s a transcendent whose aura even you can't find, what Sequence would they be?”
The forensics officer looked solemn.
“At least Sequence 5!”
...
The flower shop.
Having finished cleaning, Yin Yang pulled out a lounge chair and began sunbathing in front of the shop early in the morning.
As for Canned Food, after eating its canned cat food, it had already headed off to the battlefield. It was a very ambitious cat.
“Boss, you’re so relaxed, sunbathing so early in the morning.”
A charming female voice rang out from behind him. Yin Yang shielded his eyes from the sun and looked over, seeing that the visitor was the same young lady who had asked him how to grow flowers yesterday.
“Oh, it’s you. Are you off today too?”
“That’s right, I’m off today too.”
Yin Yang continued his sunbathing.
“Do you have more flowers you don't know how to take care of?”
“No, no, no. I’m here to buy flowers today.”
Hearing that business had come his way, Yin Yang finally stood up.
“What kind of flowers are you looking for?”
“I don't know yet.”
“Then who are you planning to give them to? I can help you choose.”
“They’re for my department director at the hospital.”
