‘They really are here!’
Yin Yang pulled on a black mask, and the silhouette of the lantern-carrying ghost emerged behind him.
The scarred tabby cat turned and bolted, its steps so frantic it nearly tripped over its own paws.
Boom!
Inside the room, the blade-wielding ghost was already locked in combat with the target!
The man fought while shielding the three children; after all, they were the ‘merchandise’ he had procured.
The three little girls sat obediently on the sofa, their eyes fixed and unblinking, looking like wax statues.
If Yin Yang hadn't been able to sense their breathing, he would have thought they were dead.
The blade-wielding ghost stepped forward, its zhanmadao sweeping in a horizontal arc.
The man rolled backward, narrowly evading the blade by a hair’s breadth.
Downstairs, Yin Yang narrowed his eyes.
‘Bold move, hiding in the residential complex directly across from Uncle Huang’s house. Hiding in plain sight?’
The blade-wielding ghost’s offensive grew increasingly ferocious. Meanwhile, Yin Yang took out his phone and dialed the manager’s number.
“Hello? Manager, I’ve found a lead on Nannan.”
“What?!”
Manager Lin’s voice on the other end was incredibly agitated.
“Manager, the person is right across from Uncle Huang’s house. He’s currently fighting someone.”
“Notify the Security Bureau immediately. They seem to be transcendents. I need to find a hidden spot to stay out of sight and monitor them.”
“Alright, alright! Xiao Yang, safety first!”
Yin Yang hung up the phone and hid under the lantern-carrying ghost’s umbrella, concealing his presence.
Inside the room, both sides seemed restrained, but the blade-wielding ghost actually held a slight advantage. The opponent knew that once a fight broke out, the noise would quickly attract attention!
Once that happened, it would be difficult for him to escape.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The combat grew more intense, the sounds of the struggle leaking out of the room.
But just as the blade-wielding ghost was momentarily distracted while protecting the three girls, the sound of footsteps appeared out of thin air inside the room.
Boom!
In the next instant, both the blade-wielding ghost and the middle-aged man were violently repelled!
The blade-wielding ghost was struck so hard it dissipated into a puff of black smoke, while the human trafficker was slammed into the wall, his bones letting out a series of sickening cracks.
Downstairs, Yin Yang’s head snapped up. With a snap of his fingers, a revolver appeared in his hand out of thin air.
Whirr—
Spirit energy converged, and the blade-wielding ghost re-manifested, its gaze even more vicious than before.
It felt humiliated. If it hadn't been worried about the three children in the room, it would never have been defeated so easily!
Yin Yang’s eyes narrowed. Everything had happened too fast. Almost the moment the footsteps were heard, the blade-wielding ghost had been snuffed out.
With the ghost gone, Yin Yang’s line of sight had been cut off, making it impossible to determine the newcomer's identity.
At this time and place, the most likely person to appear would be an accomplice of the trafficker!
Thinking of this, Yin Yang exhaled slowly and gently flipped the safety off his revolver.
‘Let’s see if I can stall them.’
Whoosh!!!
The sound of something breaking the air rang out. Yin Yang looked up just in time to see a burly middle-aged man fly directly into the room!
Boom!
The window shattered, and two figures flew out.
One was a rather thin old man who, after flying out of the window, tumbled and landed on the ground as nimbly as a cat.
The other was the burly man who had just flown in. He was currently hovering in mid-air, clutching the trafficker by the collar.
It was only then that Yin Yang saw clearly that the man was wearing a Security Bureau uniform.
Yin Yang silently withdrew the revolver and his two ghosts, allowing himself to be exposed to the other man’s perception.
“Kidnapping my subordinate’s child in my city? Hmm?”
The middle-aged man was exceptionally strong, hoisting the trafficker up in front of him like a wet rag.
Blood leaked from the corner of the trafficker’s mouth; he couldn't even manage a single word.
Only then did the burly man turn his gaze toward the thin old man.
“Since when did Sequence 6 transcendents start working as human traffickers?”
The old man smiled and waved his hand.
“Bureau Chief Wang, you’ve misunderstood. I’m not a trafficker. Quite the opposite—I came here to catch one.”
The burly man’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“You know me?”
“Who wouldn't know the famous Wang Dong, Bureau Chief of the Wang City Security Bureau?”
Hearing this, Wang Dong grinned.
“But how come I don’t recall a figure like you being in Wang City?”
“According to the laws of Great Wei, any transcendent traveling a long distance to settle down must report to the local Security Bureau in advance.”
“Are you just passing through, or are you settling down?”
Wang Dong’s gaze was aggressive, carrying the clear threat of a fight if he didn't like the answer.
The old man waved his hands repeatedly in protest.
“You’re wronging me, Chief. I’m a local of Wang City. To be honest, I’ve probably lived in Wang City longer than you have.”
As he spoke, he pointed behind him.
“I run a shoe repair shop on Orchid Street. It’s been there for thirty years. If you have time, Bureau Chief Wang, feel free to stop by.”
Wang Dong laughed heartily upon hearing this.
“No time like the present! How about today?”
The old man hesitated slightly.
“Today might not be appropriate. There are still three children in that room.”
Just then, several Security Bureau vehicles sped over from a distance. Before the cars had even come to a full stop, Uncle Huang and Manager Lin rushed out.
“Nannan!”
“Nannan!!!”
Yin Yang knew it was his time to make an appearance. He ran out from the shadows and pointed toward the shattered third-floor window.
“Uncle Huang, the person is on the third floor! Go, quickly!”
“Nannan!”
Uncle Huang didn't care about anything else and sprinted toward the third floor. Several other security officers followed close behind, while Manager Lin stood next to Yin Yang.
“Xiao Yang, how did you find them?”
“Oh, well, since I heard the child went missing around here, I figured I’d start putting up the posters in this area.”
“As soon as I entered this complex, I heard the sound of fighting. It kept getting louder, and I thought I heard a little girl’s voice. I ran into the stairwell of the building opposite to look, and sure enough, I saw Nannan.”
“But the fighting was too intense. They seemed to be transcendents. Going up there unarmed would have just been suicide.”
“That’s why I called you and asked you to report it to the Security Bureau.”
Manager Lin patted Yin Yang’s shoulder.
“Kid, you’ve saved Old Huang’s entire family today.”
Still in mid-air, Wang Dong saw this and chuckled.
“Heh, so can I go see the shop now? It just so happens I have a pair of shoes that need fixing!”
“Of course,” the old man agreed with a smile, slowly leading the way.
Wang Dong tapped the trafficker, pulled out a pair of handcuffs, and locked his hands behind his back. He threw the man onto the ground like a dead dog, causing him to cough up a large mouthful of blood.
“Take him back to the bureau. Interrogate him thoroughly. Dead or alive, I don't care!”
“Yes, sir!”
Two security officers stepped forward and hauled the trafficker toward a vehicle.
They all knew that their Bureau Chief hated human traffickers more than anything, let alone one who dared to steal from one of their own.
Thud, thud, thud.
Uncle Huang ran down the stairs carrying Nannan. By now, the girl was no longer in a daze; her large eyes were filled with tears as she gripped Uncle Huang’s clothes tightly, clearly terrified.
“Xiao Yang, say no more. From now on, you’re the benefactor of the Huang family. Your business is my business!”
Yin Yang smiled and waved it off. His gaze fell upon the human trafficker, and his voice turned uncharacteristically cold.
“Human traffickers...”
“...all deserve to die.”
