“I will participate as a representative of our group.”
As soon as those words left his mouth, Mr. Yuan and Mr. Yu both broke into smiles. When Liu Hong finally processed it, his grin was so wide he looked like a complete fool.
If Yin Yang went on his own, he would simply be helping out or effectively switching teams.
But if he went as a representative of their group, the implications were entirely different. If they achieved any results, the credit would belong to the entire team.
More importantly, it meant Yin Yang had no intention of leaving them.
“Follow me.”
Mr. Yuan agreed, his voice steady and composed. He led Yin Yang toward another laboratory. Before the three of them could even step inside, they heard a furious roar coming from within.
“Useless! Useless! You’re all useless!”
“Old Yuan already told you the research direction, but what about you? How many days has it been? I’m asking you, how many days!”
“Do you have any idea how many soldiers are dying every day because of your incompetence?”
Hearing this voice, Mr. Yuan’s expression turned a bit awkward. That so-called research direction had actually been provided by Yin Yang.
But he had made it very clear at the time that it was the idea of Zheng Yang, a student in his group. Now that this bastard was phrasing it like this, what would Zheng Yang think of him?
Would the boy think he was trying to steal his credit?
“Zheng Yang, I swear I told them it was your idea.”
Mr. Yuan thought it over and decided he had to explain himself. What if Yin Yang really did become his disciple one day, only to turn away because of a misunderstanding like this?
Yin Yang smiled and spoke with sincerity.
“I believe you.”
Those four simple words warmed Mr. Yuan’s heart.
“Come, come, let’s go in.”
Mr. Yu pushed open the laboratory door, and the shouting inside ceased instantly.
Yin Yang followed them in and saw a professor with a large beard, his face flushed bright red. The man froze when he saw the three enter, his gaze quickly landing on Yin Yang.
“Zheng Yang? You’re from Old Yuan’s group?”
“Yes, Mr. Zhang.”
The bearded man’s expression immediately became strained, looking back and forth between Mr. Yuan and Yin Yang.
“Then that previous proposal... it must have been your idea, right?”
At this, Mr. Yuan said indignantly, “I already told you this line of thinking came from Xiao Yang. Are you deaf?”
“Like hell you did! You only told me it was Xiao Yang’s idea. How was I supposed to know which ‘Yang’ you meant? Do you know how many people have ‘Yang’ in their names?”
“Nonsense, I told you exactly who it was.”
“You’re the one talking nonsense! You were so afraid we’d poach him that you used such shameless tactics!”
Hearing this, Mr. Yuan decisively grabbed Yin Yang to lead him out.
“Xiao Yang, let’s go. This bearded fellow isn’t worth our help.”
“Wait! You’re here to help?”
The bearded Mr. Zhang took a step forward, blocking their path.
Mr. Yuan sneered. “Otherwise? Did you think we came here to trim your beard?”
Mr. Zhang’s expression shifted through several emotions, but in the end, he forced a smile.
He had no choice; he had to swallow his pride. The transcendent disease he was researching was extremely tricky, and he hadn't found a solution after all this time. People were dying every day, and his conscience was starting to gnaw at him.
Compared to the weight of his conscience, a few insults were nothing.
“Mr. Yuan, Brother Yuan, please help me out.”
Mr. Zhang’s attitude was now exceptionally respectful. Mr. Yuan gave a cold snort before speaking.
“Let me tell you, we are helping as a group. Do you understand?”
Mr. Zhang looked surprised. “As a group? You’ve already conquered your transcendent disease?”
“Naturally.”
Mr. Yuan was the picture of pride. Upon receiving a positive response, Mr. Zhang’s excitement grew even more visible.
He personally helped the three put on protective gear and then led them into the ward.
Three trees were lying on the beds.
The first was a humanoid pine tree.
The second was a humanoid cypress.
The third was even more absurd—it was an apple tree, and it had even started bearing fruit.
“Sigh, take a look at our three vegetable people.”
Hearing Mr. Zhang’s words, Yin Yang almost failed to suppress a laugh.
Vegetable people—it was certainly an apt description.
Mr. Yuan’s expression, however, remained serious. “Show me the reports.”
“Right here.”
Just as Mr. Zhang reached for the reports, his arm stiffened. He suddenly lunged at Mr. Yuan, pinning him to the floor.
Before Mr. Yuan could react, a shockwave tore through the room, obliterating the laboratory and sending everyone flying.
Yin Yang controlled his body mid-air, doing his best to avoid injury.
Boom!
The sound of the explosion only reached them then.
Wooo—
An alarm blared within the base, followed by a roar over the loudspeakers.
“Air defense alert!!!”
Great Qi’s offensive had come with terrifying speed—so fast that Great Wei hadn't even had time to react.
Yin Yang curled up in a corner. He was supposed to be a normal student; he couldn't afford to expose himself.
Wooo—
As the siren wailed, a blue barrier rose in the next instant.
Almost the moment the barrier went up, a series of explosions erupted against it. If it had been a second later, the entire base would have been leveled by the shells.
“Those sons of bitches!”
“Counterattack!”
“Counterattack!!!”
Feng Xiangqian’s voice sounded like he wanted to tear someone apart.
Buzz—
A second barrier rose beneath the blue one, and the energy from the incoming shelling was conducted down through the blue layer.
After the second barrier gathered the energy for a moment, it transformed into a beam of red light that shot into the distance.
In his corner, Yin Yang’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Impressive. Using a restoration incantation to reverse-engineer the energy and locate the enemy... as expected of the authorities!
Just as the thought crossed his mind, a barrage of shells was fired toward the coordinates marked by the red light!
Feng Xiangqian moved toward Mr. Yuan and the others while directing the battle.
“Mr. Yuan, this location has been compromised! Please evacuate immediately!”
“Xiao Yang! Xiao Yang!”
Mr. Yuan couldn't hear a word he was saying, screaming out in a frantic panic.
“Mr. Yuan, please evacuate now!”
“Evacuate my ass! Where is my student? I’m not going anywhere until I see my student!”
Hearing this from his corner, Yin Yang felt a surge of complex emotions.
“Xiao Yang!”
“Xiao Yang!!!”
Feng Xiangqian had no choice but to order the other soldiers to help search. They soon found the "unconscious" Yin Yang.
“Mr. Yuan, your student has been found! Please evacuate quickly!”
Feng Xiangqian repeated himself, and this time, Mr. Yuan didn't need to be told twice. He hoisted Yin Yang onto his back and ran.
Mr. Yu and Mr. Zhang’s teams followed close behind Mr. Yuan.
They had barely started moving when several bright spots appeared in the sky.
In the next instant, the entire sky lit up!
Even with the protection of the barrier, those inside were tossed around by the violent tremors.
Seeing this, Mr. Yuan shifted Yin Yang to get a better grip.
“Xiao Yang! Don’t be afraid! Teacher will get you out of here safely!”
Feng Xiangqian’s adjutant glanced at the marks of the attack and shouted, “Everyone, follow me!”
