Chapter 277 · Volume 1

Captain Zhou, Still Not Dead

Hearing Xia Yitiao's voice, Red Fox and Jade Dog felt a significant wave of relief.
With that man present, he would surely be able to block any of Black Death Lolita's accomplices that might be lurking outside.
Black Death Lolita's voice, however, grew increasingly frenzied.
“You didn't keep your word!!!”
These words made Red Fox's heart sink. He turned to look at Jade Dog, the meaning in his eyes clear.
‘Could her accomplice be Xia Yitiao?’
Jade Dog shook his head decisively. If Xia Yitiao and Black Death Lolita were together, they would have died eight hundred times over by now.
It was only because he had investigated Xia Yitiao before that he knew just how terrifying the man's strength truly was.
The world's heroes were as numerous as carp crossing a river.
A genius might shine brightly in an ordinary city, but in Central City, geniuses were everywhere. Under those circumstances, for Xia Yitiao to carve out a path with his own strength was nothing short of terrifying.
Jade Dog and Red Fox closed in on Black Death Lolita. Da Di also stepped out from his Peach Blossom Spring, his expression solemn.
“Hahaha~”
Lyu Xiaofeng burst into loud laughter. As he laughed, some of the thin blood vessels in his body ruptured, and blood flowed out. Before it could even fall, it was sucked into the phantom behind him.
“This could have been settled long ago, yet you waited until my Lyu family was wiped out and I was heavily wounded before making a move.”
“Good, good! So this is Huangshan City?”
Hearing this, Black Death Lolita spoke up immediately.
“Since you're also unhappy with Huangshan City, we could coop—”
“To hell with your 'cooperation,' you're the one who deserves to die the most!”
Lyu Xiaofeng roared and swung his sword at Black Death Lolita!
Black Death Lolita tried to dodge, but strands of black hair suddenly sprouted from the greatsword held by the phantom!
Those strands of hair seemed to possess a life of their own, coiling toward the space where she was trying to escape, anticipating her every move.
Caught off guard, Black Death Lolita's arm was instantly entangled by the black hair.
The toxins within her body erupted, attempting to corrode the hair, but the strands were made of an unknown material that completely ignored the poison, tightening even further.
“Aaaagh!!!”
Black Death Lolita let out a blood-curdling scream as her arm was strangled off by the black hair, leaving only a bit of flesh and skin attached.
Whoosh!
The greatsword whistled through the air. Bound as she was, Black Death Lolita had no way to dodge.
Splat!
The greatsword sliced into her neck, nearly decapitating her.
Black Death Lolita shrieked as black-red blood sprayed from her neck.
Any ordinary Demigod would have been killed or at least severely crippled by such an injury.
Unfortunately, Black Death Lolita was a [Suspended Pot]!
A small gourd flew out from her body, its mouth spewing out clouds of red mist.
The moment the red mist touched her flesh, it transformed into fine threads that bridged both sides of the wound, forcibly pulling it shut.
Another portion of the mist transformed into blood vessels and muscle, replacing the missing parts.
By the time Lyu Xiaofeng's phantom raised its greatsword again, Black Death Lolita looked as if she had never been injured, aside from her tattered clothing.
“Die!”
Lyu Xiaofeng roared again, launching a relentless assault!
Jade Dog, Red Fox, and Da Di coordinated their long-range attacks, making Black Death Lolita scream in succession.
“First that damn evil god broke his word, then that headless corpse betrayed me.”
“Scoundrels, you're all scoundrels!!!”
Black Death Lolita roared. The flesh on her arm rotted rapidly, transforming into a green mist that swirled toward the phantom behind Lyu Xiaofeng.
Sizzle, sizzle~
“Argh!”
Lyu Xiaofeng cried out in pain, feeling as if he had been thrown into sulfuric acid. Both his soul and body were in unbearable agony.
“You want to see who can go for broke?”
“You think you're the only one with the courage for a desperate final struggle?”
More and more of the flesh on Black Death Lolita's body rotted away, turning into various mists that spread toward the surrounding Demigods.
The mist was so corrosive that even the air sizzled upon contact. With Lyu Xiaofeng serving as a warning, the other three Demigods naturally didn't dare to approach easily.
It was at this moment that a transcendent fluctuation emerged from the sludge. A second later, a man wearing a Lyu family uniform appeared.
It was Captain Zhou!
He looked around in a daze, utterly dumbfounded when he saw the Demigods locked in a fierce battle.
The battling Demigods also noticed his presence, and they were all somewhat surprised.
The earlier explosion had affected even them; how could an ordinary Sequence 7 have survived?
And this was where Captain Zhou's luck came in.
The moment he had touched the water curtain, he realized that with his strength, there was absolutely no way out.
At that time, the sky was filled with either Demigods or evil gods; he had nowhere to hide. With the power of a mere Sequence 7, he should have been certain to die.
Just as he was beginning to despair, he had discovered the oil painting—the giant oil painting they had painstakingly taken from the Lyu family.
But having the oil painting was useless without the key.
So he had started searching for the key. Fortune favored the persistent; he had found that ring where the old butler had 'died.'
Using the ring, he had successfully hidden inside the oil painting before the sludge fell, remaining there until now.
He actually didn't want to come out.
However, the oil painting had consumed a great deal of spirituality to protect itself, and the space inside was shrinking rapidly, nearly crushing him to death.
Out of options, Captain Zhou could only emerge from the oil painting, only to witness the scene before him the moment he stepped out.
Boom!
The divinity of Lyu Xiaofeng and Black Death Lolita clashed. The shockwave of the battle sent Captain Zhou flying, slamming him into a nearby bank of dried sludge.
Pfft!
Captain Zhou spat out a mouthful of blood, nearly dying on the spot.
Seeing this, Da Di subconsciously moved closer to him, intending to block some of the shockwaves for him; otherwise, the man would likely not survive.
The battle in the sky grew more intense. Lyu Xiaofeng was gradually being forced into a disadvantage, yet he still refused to die.
Even Red Fox couldn't help but marvel. As expected of a true Myriad-Slayer, this level of strength was impressive even by Central City standards.
Black Death Lolita's methods were even more bizarre and mysterious. Even the sky in their area had become multicolored—extremely beautiful, but also extremely lethal.
They didn't dare to get close, which only made Lyu Xiaofeng more furious.
“Watching the tigers fight from the safety of the mountain? Don't even think about it!”
“All of you, get over here!!!”
Powerful suction forces radiated out. Captain Zhou was the first to be pulled up, but fortunately, Da Di grabbed him by the neck, preventing him from flying toward the center.
“Th-thank you.”
Captain Zhou was still shaken. Da Di said with a serious expression.
“Once the fighting starts, I might not be able to look out for you. Fend for yourself!”
“Understood!”
Captain Zhou agreed, his heart pounding wildly.
For a Sequence 7 to be exposed to a battle of this level—even if he died, he would have no complaints.
In the sky, Jade Dog and Red Fox were struggling to stay steady.
Both had been affected by the humanity within the explosion earlier, causing their strength to decline.
Only Da Di, who had hidden in his Peach Blossom Spring, had not been eroded by humanity.
Black Death Lolita roared once more. The toxic clouds gathered, forming a blurred figure.
