Chapter 229 · Volume 1

Nie Yang Grilled Sausages

By the time he snapped out of it, he was already back on campus.
The chubby student beside him was rubbing his belly with satisfaction. Seeing the other boy come back to his senses, he grinned.
“Hahaha, well? I didn’t lie to you, did I? Isn’t it delicious?”
The boy nodded, though he still looked a bit incredulous.
“He couldn’t have added something weird to those sausages, could he? They’re way too good!”
The chubby student rolled his eyes.
“Bro, it’s a five-yuan sausage. Were you expecting it to be laced with something illegal? You’re dreaming!”
The boy laughed sheepishly at that.
...
Sizzle, sizzle~
Yin Yang hummed a little tune as he used a pair of tongs to flip the grilled sausages.
A few nearby snack stall owners, drawn by the aroma, wandered over.
“Hey, young man, you’re selling these for five yuan a piece?”
“Yeah.”
“Man, that’s not cheap. Ours are only two yuan each.”
“Hahaha, it’s a secret recipe made with real ingredients. I’m just making a bit for the labor.”
The other stall owners didn’t believe a word of it.
In the food industry, who would do it if the profit margins were that low?
They weren’t exactly running charity breakfast stands.
“Here, don’t be shy. Everyone, have a taste.”
Yin Yang smiled and handed out sausages to them. At first, they were a bit embarrassed to accept, but seeing Yin Yang’s sincere expression, they took them.
One older man even went back to his own stall and brought over a wrap.
“This is a wrap I made. Give it a try.”
Seeing this, the others also brought over their own food to trade with Yin Yang.
Meat skewers, meat pies, chicken drumsticks, cold drinks—there was everything.
Yin Yang accepted them with a smile; it was a nice bit of social reciprocity.
“Holy crap!”
The stall owner who had just bitten into a sausage cried out in shock, looking at the half-eaten snack in disbelief.
“What’s up, Old Liu? Did a dog bite you?”
A familiar vendor nearby teased him. Old Liu pointed at the sausage in his hand.
“You guys, try this! This sausage is too delicious! I feel like it landed a solid punch right on my tongue!”
“Hahahaha!”
“You’re hilarious.”
Everyone was amused by Old Liu’s metaphor, but once they tasted the sausages themselves, they all froze on the spot.
They realized Old Liu hadn’t been joking—these sausages were mind-blowingly good!
Despite the sausages being absolutely divine, the more they ate, the more bitter they felt.
They looked at one another, the expressions on their faces seemingly saying: If we’re stuck next to a stall like this, will we have any business left?
Yin Yang took one look and knew exactly what they were worried about. He smiled as he continued grilling.
“Actually, I wanted to set up at the food street earlier, but the manager there was very arrogant. He said they have a huge flow of customers and that not just any riffraff can set up a stall there.”
“So I came here. I believe that with my sausages, I can at least double the foot traffic in this area!”
Hearing this, the vendors’ eyes lit up.
That was right!
While the sausages were delicious and would certainly take a portion of their business, they would also bring in more people!
It was like a cake that was originally just enough for ten people. If someone suddenly came along and wanted two slices, the others would definitely go hungry.
But what if that person who wanted two slices could double the size of the cake?
“Hahaha, the kid is right! Those people at the food street have always been snobs!”
“Your sausages should definitely be sold here!”
“Exactly! We’ll help you call out to customers tonight!”
The stall owners instantly became a united front. Yin Yang laughed.
“Thank you, everyone. The ingredients for my sausages have to be prepared fresh, so I can only make three hundred a day. I might have to set a purchase limit when the time comes.”
Hearing this, the surrounding vendors smiled even wider. Old Liu laughed.
“A purchase limit is good. A limit is very good.”
“And shouldn’t such a great sausage be paired with a wrap?”
Everyone burst into laughter. They looked at the sign above the sausage stall, thinking that with these sausages, they might actually be able to surpass the foot traffic of the food street across the way!
A light breeze blew, fluttering the four large characters on the sign.
Nie Yang Grilled Sausages!
...
Wanwu City.
Ye Muchun stood at his shop entrance and took a long, deep stretch.
Considerable time had passed, and he had now firmly established himself in Wanwu City. Business was fairly brisk.
“Boss, I wish you prosperity.”
A black-robed man walked over.
“Hahaha, thank you for the kind words.”
Ye Muchun was very polite. After all, Wanwu City was a melting pot of dragons and snakes; one never knew the true identity of the person beneath a black robe.
“Is there anything my humble shop can help you with?”
Ye Muchun invited the black-robed man inside. The man looked around before smiling.
“Boss Ye, I have a golden opportunity for you. Would you like to hear it?”
Ye Muchun’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Since his first day in business, he had known that meat pies didn’t just fall from the sky.
If they did, they were usually bait!
“A golden opportunity? I’m all ears.”
While he thought this, Ye Muchun maintained a very interested expression on the surface.
“Boss Ye must have heard that someone is using a sealed object as a bounty for a masked man, right?”
“Of course I’ve heard. It was all over the place a while ago. They say the masked man’s identity is very complex and that he has ties to both the True Knowledge Society and the Shadow Lotus Church.”
He paused, then looked at the black-robed man in surprise.
“Surely the golden opportunity you mentioned isn’t a sealed object? If it is, I’m afraid I’ll have to apologize.”
He rubbed his belly and laughed.
“As you can see, I’m a bit pot-bellied. I don’t exactly look like the type who can charge into battle.”
The man laughed in response.
“You don’t need to charge into battle. I heard before that you have connections outside that can take down a Demigod?”
Ye Muchun’s movements stiffened, and the smile on his face faded slightly.
“I’m not sure I follow you. I’m a legitimate businessman under the protection of the City Lord.”
The black-robed man smiled.
“Mr. Ye, there’s no need to be nervous. I just wanted to tell you that a major event is currently gathering people!”
“The reward is also a sealed object!”
“Even the middleman can get a referral fee of five hundred thousand!”
“That’s five hundred thousand—enough to buy a decent transcendent item.”
“However, the threshold for participation is a bit high. One must be a Demigod!”
Ye Muchun stood up decisively.
“Sir, I don’t know any Demigods, nor can I participate in an affair of that level. If there’s nothing else, please see yourself out.”
The man didn’t get angry. Instead, he smiled and took a business card from his pocket, handing it to Ye Muchun.
“I believe that with Boss Ye’s abilities, you will surely grow bigger and stronger in the future. Let’s collaborate when the opportunity arises.”
Ye Muchun took the card and personally saw the man to the door. Once the man’s figure had vanished, he looked down at the card. On the black background, four large characters were written in gold lacquer.
Shadow Lotus. Qin Ye.
Ye Muchun shook his head inwardly, thinking that the Shadow Lotus Church was truly becoming more and more arrogant, even daring to hand out business cards!
