Chapter 211 · Volume 1

Praise the Lord of Rebirth and Communion

If it were anyone else, Yin Yang would have said he respected their individual fate.
But believers were different!
Especially now; these people were an indispensable part of his journey toward Sequence 6!
“Go!”
As Yin Yang paused, Zheng Guang ran over to him.
Yin Yang grabbed him and shoved the handcart toward him.
“Take the nurse and the supplies back.”
Zheng Guang immediately understood the implication and said urgently, “It’s too dangerous in there! We need medical talent like you right now. What are you trying to do? I’ll go in your place!”
Yin Yang shook his head decisively.
“Take the supplies back!”
“But—”
“No buts!”
Yin Yang didn't have time for a lengthy explanation. He turned and sprinted toward the hospital stairs.
Zheng Guang looked at the supplies and the young nurse on the cart. Gritting his teeth, he pushed the cart toward the exit.
‘These supplies can save more people!’
‘These supplies can save more people!’
He could only use this reasoning to comfort himself.
As someone born and raised in Mangliang City, he had joined the Security Bureau immediately after graduation. His head was filled with notions of justice and passion.
He had always felt that if he worked hard enough, he could change the world, become a captain, a bureau chief, and maybe even go to Central City in the future. He wanted to stand up for the common people and strike down evil!
But the events of today had taught him a harsh lesson.
In the face of disaster, he couldn't even save a few ordinary people.
He couldn't even stop his own friend from walking toward death.
Thinking of this, Zheng Guang’s eyes grew hot.
He pushed the medical supplies out of the hospital. Behind him, a massive roar erupted, but he didn't dare look back.
‘As long as I don't look back, they aren't dead!’
Was it self-deception?
Perhaps.
But right now, it was the only thing keeping him running forward.
...
Boom!
The Headless Ghost pulverized a falling concrete block with a single punch.
Though it had no head, it protected Yin Yang perfectly.
Yin Yang rushed toward the third floor, where the hospital wards were located.
The moment he arrived, his head began to ache. There were too many people!
The corridors were packed with patients!
Rumble—
The building continued to crumble. Yin Yang activated his Perception skill and could clearly sense that this decades-old building had reached the end of its life.
‘Hold on!’
Yin Yang cheered for the building in his heart while his legs never stopped moving. He soon burst into a ward.
There were five people inside—two men and two women—with an old lady lying on the hospital bed.
She was the one calling out to the Lord of Rebirth and Communion!
“Phew—”
“Get out, quickly! The aftershocks are back, and the hospital won't hold much longer.”
“Where do we go?”
A man asked. He was likely the old woman's son, and he was no longer young himself.
Hearing Yin Yang say they had to run, he immediately hoisted the old lady onto his back.
“Follow me!”
Yin Yang shouted from the doorway before moving to the next ward.
It was somewhat absurd, but he had quite a few believers in this hospital.
However, it was understandable. The closer people were to death, the more devout they became toward the divine.
And the word ‘Rebirth’ in the title of the Lord of Rebirth and Communion was clearly very appealing to them.
“Follow me!”
Yin Yang pushed his spirituality to the limit and activated his Communion skill, projecting his intent directly to ensure no one misunderstood his instructions.
He led the group toward the stairs. Just as they reached the stairwell, another aftershock hit, causing everyone in the corridor to tumble.
To make matters worse, the stairs had collapsed. They were trapped on the third floor.
Despair instantly washed over the crowd.
But at that moment, the old lady Yin Yang had first notified fell to her knees and cried out.
“The Lord of Rebirth and Communion protects us!”
“The Lord of Rebirth and Communion protects us!”
The old lady's son was nearly fuming. He regretted taking his mother to that faith clinic for treatment. While it was indeed very cheap, it seemed to have affected her mind.
What time was it? They were about to die, yet his mother was still here shouting for divine protection.
Where were there any gods in this world? If there were, why would—
Boom—
Just as the thought crossed his mind, the wall near the stairs shattered, as if something had blown it apart from the outside!
A ray of sunlight streamed in.
He glanced outside, and for the first time in his life, he believed that gods truly existed!
Outside the massive hole, a slope had appeared.
The slope was formed by broken walls and debris, making it normally difficult to navigate.
But for some reason, a rain awning was draped over it.
Shouldn't that thing be between the first and second floors? If this wasn't a divine manifestation, what was?
“Follow me!”
Yin Yang called out again and ran toward the hole.
The others scrambled to follow. Though some had been injured by the fall earlier, compared to their lives, it was nothing.
They managed to escape the hospital building bit by bit. When they looked back, the exterior of the hospital was covered in cracks.
People were still pouring out of various windows and doors.
But Yin Yang knew that the building couldn't hold any longer.
Boom—
The building collapsed, and dust filled the air.
...
Splat!
Su Baadao ripped the head off a black-robed elder, his expression one of disgust.
“Of all things to believe in, you had to choose an evil god.”
“Now your divinity is polluted by that evil god. How am I supposed to use you as raw material?”
“Scum. You didn't even leave me any benefits in death.”
As he spoke, the red light around him grew more vivid.
“I know, I know. Would I go back on our deal?”
“But I can't give you this head. I have to take it back to report; this is part of my political merit.”
Upon hearing Su Baadao's words, the red light transformed into red threads that tightened instantly, wrapping the black-robed elder's corpse like a cocoon.
The red light pulsed like breathing. In less than a minute, it dispersed back into a red rope.
As for the elder's corpse that had been wrapped inside, it had vanished without a trace.
This was the price Su Baadao had negotiated with the sealed object earlier.
If he couldn't kill the elder, then the one being absorbed right now would have been Su Baadao... yeah, right!
With his personality, he would have reneged on the deal even if it meant being blacklisted.
Su Baadao carried the head and the sealed object back toward the Security Bureau. This sealed object had been exposed for too long and needed to be re-sealed.
When he reached the Security Bureau, he saw two barriers placed at the entrance.
Beside the barriers was Wang Gen, who looked close to collapse from exhaustion.
Su Baadao's eye twitched at the sight, but he ignored him. He only returned after returning the sealed object to the Hidden Vault.
“You physically carried them back?”
“Yeah. Time was running out.”
Su Baadao looked at the two barriers. He saw that outside the main barriers, there was a counter-barrier used to offset the vibrations of the Earth Dragon Jar, forcing the shockwaves to bounce harmlessly within the enclosure.
“Are there any more?”
“I don't know. These are the ones from the South and North Districts.”
As they spoke, another tremor hit.
This time, the vibration was accompanied by an intense red light!
The two of them took to the air almost simultaneously, flying toward the source of the red light!
It was coming from the West District hospital.
