Chapter 191 · Volume 1

The Protest March

“Remember, don't start a fight. We're just here to protest!”
“Get the banners and water bottles ready. We'll start the march from East Street in a bit!”
“Xiao Ju, take Xiao Quan and the others to block the cars.”
“Xiao Jiu, take your group to hand out flyers. Make sure more people understand what we're doing.”
“We have to let them know that Mangliang City is supported by us workers, not some bullshit tourist zone!”
“That Mr. Su is definitely like the previous city lords—he just wants to make a quick buck from Mangliang City and leave.”
“An influencer district? A tourist zone? Bah!”
“They say they're investing, but it all goes into their pockets. When the time comes, they'll just pat their asses and leave, leaving a mess for the people of Mangliang City.”
Hearing this, the surrounding people clenched their fists in anger.
“I'll say it again: no conflicts. Otherwise, we'll lose the moral high ground.”
“This time, we're going to show that man named Su that the people of Mangliang City aren't pushovers!”
“Good!”
“Right!”
“Let’s go!”
With a wave of the leader's hand, the crowd began their massive departure.
They started with only thirty or forty people, but as they passed each factory gate, dozens more joined in.
By the time they left the industrial district, the crowd had swelled to over three thousand people!
As far as the eye could see, workers in their uniforms filled the streets.
They held up banners and shouted slogans as they marched.
“Go back to Central City!!!”
“Mangliang City should be managed by its own people!!!”
“Go back to Central City!!!”
“Mangliang City should be managed by its own people!!!”
As they advanced, the number of onlookers grew. Some were moved by the slogans and joined the march.
The crowd grew larger and larger as they headed toward the East District, where the Mangliang City Command Center was located.
However, when they reached the boundary line, they found the road had long been blocked off.
Security Bureau vehicles were parked in a line, creating an impenetrable blockade.
Yet, the crowd was still being pushed forward by its own momentum.
There were simply too many people. Those in the back couldn't see what was happening at the front and continued to push forward.
“Why is the road blocked?!”
“Can we not even go home in our own city?!”
“Give us an explanation!!!”
Someone in the crowd suddenly roared, and the surrounding people grew even more furious, shouting in unison.
“Give us an explanation!!!”
Anger rippled through the crowd.
The people at the very front were already nearing the vehicles.
“Silence!!!”
A voice suddenly boomed from the air. Everyone instinctively looked up to see a well-built, refined-looking middle-aged man floating in the sky.
This single display of power revealed his identity.
A Demigod.
The thousands of people below instantly fell silent. They even forgot to move, staring up at the figure.
The newcomer was Su Baadao!
He had infused his command for silence with divinity to achieve such an effect.
“I am the Mr. Su from Central City you were all shouting about!”
Su Baadao's voice wasn't particularly loud, yet it reached everyone's ears clearly.
“An explanation?”
“What kind of explanation do you want?”
“Even if I gave you one, would you even understand it?”
Su Baadao made no attempt to hide his mockery. The crowd instantly became restless again, and someone shouted loudly.
“Aren't you just some guy who used the back door to get into our Mangliang City? What's so great about you?!”
“If it weren't for us, all of you would starve to death!”
Su Baadao narrowed his eyes and raised his right hand.
“I desire that you hear of the faults of others as you would hear the names of your parents!”
“Let your ears hear, but let your mouths not speak. To delight in discussing the merits and flaws of others, or to recklessly criticize the law—these are the things I loathe most!”
The person who had spoken was suddenly wrapped in a force and lifted into the air.
“Aaaah!!!”
The sudden ascent terrified him, and he couldn't help but scream.
“Look at him!”
Su Baadao's voice was exceptionally resonant.
“Do any of you know him? Is he even from Mangliang City?”
“You keep shouting 'Mangliang, Mangliang,' but do you even know the origin of those characters? Do you know how many ways there are to write them?”
Before Su Baadao could finish, someone else shouted.
“He's trying to force a confession through torture! Let's charge—aaah!!!”
Before he could finish his sentence, he too was sent flying into the air.
The crowd below grew agitated, but Su Baadao spoke again.
“Do you know this one?”
“Come on, raise your hand if you recognize him!”
His voice carried a power that forced people to think clearly. The workers looked up one after another.
Then, another person in the crowd shouted.
“There are thousands of us here, how could we possibly know every—”
He, too, was sent flying.
This time, the crowd fell completely silent. After all, everyone who spoke was sent flying; who knew how they would eventually land?
“Hmph!”
Su Baadao snorted coldly.
“Cowardly rats!”
“You only know how to incite others to charge while you hide behind them!”
“Do you think I'll yield just because you've goaded some workers into striking?”
“Do you think I'm like those previous fools?!”
“Everyone!”
“Open your eyes and look! What era is this?!”
“To revitalize Mangliang City, hard work alone is not enough!”
“Developing the tourism industry will make your homes more valuable and increase your income!”
“Isn't it better to allow the people of Mangliang who are working elsewhere to return to their hometown?”
“I can understand your loss of faith in Mangliang City because of those idiots before me, but I am different from those fools!”
“I!”
“Su Baadao!”
“The Top Scholar from Central City!”
“I am fundamentally different from those idiots!”
“If you don't believe me, go search for my achievements when I was in charge of other cities!”
Hearing Su Baadao speak this way, more and more people calmed down.
It wasn't necessarily because they were convinced, but because they were being influenced by Su Baadao's divinity.
Just as Su Baadao was about to continue, another voice shouted from the crowd.
“To hell with that! The ones before you all talked a big game too, and what happened?”
“You'll just leave once you've had your fill, leaving our Mangliang City even poorer!”
Su Baadao's expression soured as he raised his hand again, but this time, the speaker didn't fly up.
Seeing this, the people in the crowd became even more emboldened.
“Hahaha! What's the matter? Did we hit a nerve? Are you getting angry now?”
“Brothers, don't be fooled by him! He just wants to calm us down so he can take his revenge later!”
“Look at our brothers in the sky! They were seized because they stood up for us! Let's save them!”
“Yes! Save them!”
The crowd began to riot again, but Su Baadao suddenly burst into laughter.
“Wang Gen!”
“Here, sir!”
“Do it!”
“Yes, sir!”
Following Wang Gen's loud roar in the distance, a crimson light quickly enveloped everyone.
The smile on Su Baadao's face gradually turned savage.
“You pieces of filth, I don't believe a sealed object won't be enough to root you out!”
