Chapter 187 · Volume 1

Change of Plans

Yin Yang didn't care much about running into most acquaintances.
He changed his appearance every time he moved to a new place.
Furthermore, under the blessing of that power, Yin Yang was unpredictable. Even if he stood directly in front of those he knew, they wouldn't necessarily recognize him; at most, they would find him vaguely familiar.
Zhou Kexin, for instance, had only felt that he looked a bit familiar.
However, the two people before him were different.
Wang Gen—a Demigod and the Bureau Chief of the Security Bureau!
Setting aside his investigative skills, the impression Yin Yang had left on him was surely profound!
It might be an exaggeration to say he would recognize Yin Yang even if he were reduced to ash, but it wasn't far from the truth.
This meant the man might recognize him through subconscious movements or his walking posture.
As for Su Baadao, the prestige of a Top Scholar spoke for itself.
It was no exaggeration to say that among all the Sequence 5s in Great Wei, Su Baadao was absolutely at the top of the list!
Yin Yang had indeed killed a Sequence 5 before, but that was the result of long preparation, obtaining the target's blood, and setting up a sacrifice array well in advance.
Otherwise, how could he possibly fight a Sequence 5 head-on?
It was like a child trying to fight a strongman in a duel; they wouldn't stand a chance.
But if you knew when and where he would be, you could set a trap to take him down!
Now, however, they were face-to-face. Yin Yang absolutely could not afford to be exposed.
This was a true test of his acting skills.
Fortunately, Yin Yang had made a point of taking some advanced training in that area before.
“Hello, I’m here for the pest control. Is there anything I should keep in mind?”
Yin Yang looked at Su Baadao, his tone perfectly natural.
“Pest control?”
Su Baadao frowned and turned to look at Wang Gen.
Wang Gen stepped forward and asked, “Are there rats in this house?”
Yin Yang gave them a surprised look. “Don’t you live here? A gentleman found me a short while ago and asked me to clear out the rats in this house before seven-thirty.”
Hearing this, Wang Gen realized what was happening. “We just arrived. This is a rental. Go ahead.”
“Oh, alright. Should I settle the bill with you two or with him when I’m done?”
“With him, of course!”
“Got it.”
Yin Yang agreed and started walking forward with his cat carrier on his back.
“Wait a moment!”
Su Baadao called out, stopping Yin Yang.
Anyone else might have felt their heart skip a beat.
But not Yin Yang, because Yin Yang had no heart.
He turned around with a touch of confusion and looked at Su Baadao. “Is there something else?”
“You’ve fed this cat well. Do you rely on it to catch the rats?”
“That’s right.”
Yin Yang casually turned the carrier around. Inside, Canned Food was exceptionally well-behaved, letting out a couple of meows at the two men.
Yin Yang thought to himself, Good job. You’re getting extra cans of food when we get back!
Su Baadao narrowed his eyes slightly and gave his nose a small twitch.
“How does your cat have a transcendent aura on it?”
The moment Su Baadao said this, Wang Gen’s expression turned serious. He stepped forward, placing himself directly in front of Su Baadao.
He stared at Yin Yang warily, looking as if he might strike at any second.
“Huh? A transcendent aura?”
Yin Yang pulled Canned Food out and looked the cat up and down. “Are you saying my cat is a transcendent? Or that it has some kind of transcendent item on it?”
Su Baadao looked at Canned Food again. “Do you usually rely on it to catch rats?”
“No, it’s just one of them. But it’s the smartest and most capable.”
Hearing this, Canned Food lifted its head, looking quite proud.
“It can understand human speech?”
“Of course. Cat Boss is very intelligent.”
“Cat Boss?”
“That’s its name.”
Su Baadao laughed upon hearing that.
“Your cat has good luck. It probably ate some transcendent material at some point, so it’s stained with a trace of transcendent aura.”
“Even though the aura is weak, it was enough to awaken its intelligence.”
“Take good care of it. In this society, there are many who would kill for even a scrap of transcendent material.”
Yin Yang gave Canned Food a surprised look, then nodded seriously.
“Thank you for the advice. I’ll make sure to protect Cat Boss.”
As he spoke, he rubbed the cat’s head and placed it on the ground.
“Cat Boss, the rats are all yours.”
“Meow!”
Canned Food darted off in a flash. Yin Yang waved to the two men and followed behind with the empty carrier.
That hint of spirituality on Canned Food was something Yin Yang had exposed on purpose.
Sometimes, putting things out in the open made them less suspicious.
It was the principle that the most dangerous place is often the safest.
Once the man and the cat had entered the villa, Wang Gen frowned and said, “That kid is just an ordinary person. He has a strong scent of cats on him, and the smells are mixed. He really must raise a lot of them.”
“Mm.”
Su Baadao watched them for a moment before turning away.
“A lucky little cat. Keep an eye on it.”
“Will do.”
“You heard the reports from the others earlier, right?”
“Yeah.”
“This is the second time I’ve heard of someone impersonating the Baleful Star. I just confirmed with Headquarters; Ming Yang is dead too.”
Wang Gen narrowed his eyes. “The first time was someone impersonating Ghost Tiger in Huanggang. Ghost Tiger is dead.”
“Now someone is impersonating Ming Yang, and Ming Yang is dead. Is it the same group?”
“Highly likely.”
Su Baadao nodded. “Before he died, Ming Yang made a call to Headquarters. He said the Bureau Chief of the Huang City Security Bureau had joined the Shadow Lotus Church and was possessed by an evil god.”
“Headquarters sent people to investigate the scene, but it had already been destroyed by the Purifying World Shadow Lotus. No traces were left.”
“But judging by the blast radius, Ming Yang and his partner were trying their best to protect the civilians before they died.”
Wang Gen fell silent. After a few seconds, he spoke. “Good. If we don’t step up when there’s danger, who will?”
Su Baadao laughed as well. “True. If we don’t step up, who will?”
He squinted at the streetlights by the entrance. “You haven’t forgotten what I told you in the car, have you?”
“I haven’t.”
Wang Gen answered readily, a fierce grin appearing on his face. “You build, I’ll kill!”
“Mm.”
Su Baadao sighed with emotion. “Mangliang City is a good place. It was just ruined by a bunch of incompetents.”
“Four years. Give me four years, and I’ll make this place brand new!”
“And the city I manage will not allow any cults to exist!”
“Understood!”
As they spoke, the shrill screams of rats began to echo from within the villa behind them.
...
Yin Yang stood by the floor-to-ceiling window on the second floor, idly cracking his knuckles.
He didn't try to eavesdrop. With the perception levels of those two, any attempt would likely be detected.
Wang Gen had detected him even when he used divinity to listen in before, let alone now.
‘With these two here, the previous plan will have to change.’
Yin Yang frowned. He now had two paths before him.
First: run!
It didn't matter where he proselytized, and his arrival in Mangliang City had been a coincidence anyway.
Second: continue.
Given Su Baadao’s personality, he would surely implement sweeping reforms now that he had arrived.
And that would be Yin Yang’s opportunity!
