Chapter 171 · Volume 1

The Ritual, Begins!

The people around them instinctively backed away—not because they had sensed anything, but because the stench coming from the two newcomers was overwhelming.
The Eldest Master's expression was incredibly complex. Seeing this, the Second Master roared.
“Who on earth are you people!”
“My nephew and niece are already dead! How dare you try to impersonate them?”
As he spoke, another figure in black stepped out from the crowd, turning to look at the Second Master.
“Dad, what are you saying?”
That single word, “Dad,” instantly stunned both the Second Master and the Second Young Master. The Second Master only needed one look for his face to change drastically—that was clearly his illegitimate son!
The Second Madam was about to explode with rage.
She could guess the relationship between the two just by looking at that face!
Seeing the identical black robe, the Second Master's expression grew even more unsightly.
He had already realized that his own son might also be dead.
The Eldest Master's eyes scanned the crowd. He only breathed a sigh of relief when he failed to find Xiao Yi.
He recognized Old Second's illegitimate son. He had already lost one son; he couldn't bear to lose another.
Seeing this, the Eldest Young Master smiled even more happily. He slowly untied his black robe, revealing his body.
“Dad, are you looking for Xiao Yi?”
“Look, isn't his body right here?”
As he spoke, he yanked off his scarf, revealing hideous stitches across his neck.
At this point, even a fool could understand what was happening.
The surrounding guests scrambled backward, cursing their bad luck. How had they gotten caught up in a transcendent incident?
If things went south, lives would be lost.
Just as they were thinking about whether to take the chance to run, several more figures in black robes stepped out from the crowd.
The faces of the Eldest Master and Second Master were now as dark as the bottom of a pot, especially the Eldest Master's.
The heir he had spent so much effort nurturing was dead, and now the other son he had raised in secret was dead too!
He felt the world spinning. His chest tightened, and he spat out a mouthful of fresh blood.
Not far away, the 'Eldest Young Miss' shed two trails of bloody tears.
“Dad, I'm in so much pain.”
“The souls of those lowlifes are gnawing at my internal organs.”
As she spoke, she pulled open her clothes. Her belly was swollen to an enormous size, as if she were ten months pregnant.
Even more terrifying was that something could be seen writhing beneath the skin of her stomach.
“Dad, save me, save me.”
“Help me find peace.”
Seeing this, the light in the Eldest Master's eyes began to dim.
Even as a Demigod, he could not accept his children becoming like this.
“Who did this?!”
The Eldest Master's voice was agonizingly shrill.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
One by one, the figures in black robes self-destructed.
The crowd no longer hesitated, running for their lives.
But just as they were about to flee the boundaries of the Li family estate, a blue light wall slowly rose!
The two people running the fastest slammed into the light wall, leaving them dazed and disoriented.
“A barrier? Li family! What are you trying to do?”
One of them snapped upon seeing the light wall, immediately pointing the finger at the Li family.
After all, setting up something like a barrier took time. Aside from the Li family themselves, who else could have set one up on their grounds?
Who would believe it if they said an outsider did it?
Buzz—
The sound of buzzing wings filled the air. Everyone looked toward the source and saw it coming from the bodies of the self-destructed men.
Before they could figure out what was happening, an overwhelming swarm of locusts flew out from the remains.
The locusts' eyes were blood-red. Initially, they were only the size of a pinky finger, but after feasting on human flesh, they began to grow visibly to the naked eye!
“Aaaah!”
“What the hell are these things!”
Screams erupted from the crowd. Even some low-Sequence transcendents were unable to protect themselves.
There were simply too many locusts.
“You two! Strike!”
The Eldest Master roared, and a wave of divinity quickly spread outward.
Every locust that came into contact with the divinity burst apart.
“Dad, save me, save me.”
The Eldest Young Miss rushed toward the Eldest Master in a grotesque manner, the bloody tears on her face increasing.
The Eldest Master let out a roar and threw a punch.
“Girl, you're already dead!”
Boom!
How could a corpse withstand the power of a Demigod?
Half of the Eldest Young Miss's body was pulverized. She stared blankly at the Eldest Master as locusts crawled out from inside her.
“Dad, it hurts so much.”
Her words were like a sharp blade, stabbing deep into the Eldest Master's heart.
His eyes filled with tears as he let out a silent roar, his face a mask of bone-deep sorrow.
Pfft.
A sharp blade stabbed into the Eldest Master's lower back.
However, it only penetrated slightly before being clamped tight by his muscles.
The Eldest Master turned his head to see the Eldest Young Master grinning at him.
“Dad, you're right. Both my sister and I are dead.”
“Why don't you die too, so our family can be together?”
Hearing this, the light in the Eldest Master's eyes dimmed even further.
“Brother!”
“Don't fall for it!”
At the critical moment, the Second Master let out a loud shout, forcibly snapping the Eldest Master back to his senses.
The Eldest Master turned and threw a punch that sent the Eldest Young Master's head flying.
“I almost fell for their trick!”
Pfft!
Locusts sprayed out from the Eldest Young Master's neck, and the corpse rapidly shriveled.
The entire ritual site had become a meat grinder, filled with blood and wailing.
In the chaos, the Third Master supported the Old Master and quickly entered the ancestral hall. The Third Young Master followed them inside in a daze.
The Second Master leaned toward the middle-aged man with a look of terror.
“Mr. Yang, what do we do now?”
The middle-aged man's expression was equally grim.
“What is your Li family trying to do by putting up such a massive barrier? Are you trying to wipe everyone out?”
Hearing this, the Second Master's eyes widened in disbelief.
“Our family set up this barrier?”
“Who else? Setting up a barrier takes time. Besides your own people, who else could have done it?”
The Second Master began to have doubts. He wondered if the Eldest and Third Masters had some plan they were hiding from him.
As he was thinking, countless locusts flew toward him.
The middle-aged man beside him took a step forward with a serious expression.
“Disperse!”
His voice was incredibly majestic, like a Heavenly Decree. The incoming locusts quickly scattered, leaving the Second Master inexplicably excited.
“Mr. Yang, I'm counting on you for my safety.”
The middle-aged man nodded and said solemnly.
“Chi Zhu and Ming Yang should be arriving soon. I can't let them see me. Let's move to another spot.”
“Alright!”
The Second Master didn't hesitate for a second. If it weren't for Mr. Yang, he might have been bitten to death by the locusts just now.
If he couldn't trust his savior, who could he trust?
The two of them also moved toward the ancestral hall. A few clever people followed along, and Mr. Yang didn't stop them.
The group took several turns and hid inside a small room. Only then did the Second Master breathe a sigh of relief.
“It's relatively safe here. Mr. Yang, do we just wait here?”
Buzz—
A zhanmadao surging with baleful aura appeared out of thin air, clean-cutting the Second Master's head off.
Before the head could hit the ground, it was caught by a large hand.
Pfft!
Blood sprayed from the headless corpse like a fountain.
The 'clever people' who had followed them were drenched in blood, standing there slack-jawed and frozen like wooden statues.
“Hehehe~”
“The ritual.”
“Begins!”
