The other person’s expression was extremely grave.
“They’ve been appearing far too frequently lately. This is definitely not a good thing for us, and every time they strike, their target is the Security Bureau.”
“A provocation?”
“Highly likely!”
“But letting a sealed object out is too dangerous. Who knows if it will lose control and do something irreversible?”
“Isn’t it already somewhat out of control?”
“Given how it wants to return to him every single second, who would dare take it out on a mission?”
“True. But have you considered this? Even a Baleful Star Demigod couldn’t do anything to him. Who are we supposed to deploy? A Sequence 4?”
The air fell into a heavy silence.
“Even if we can’t spare the manpower to deal with him, we have to find someone to interfere. We can’t let him develop so recklessly.”
“What do you suggest? Every Sequence 4 has their own mission. If we move them lightly, the consequences might be even worse.”
“We don’t necessarily need our own people to get rid of him.”
The person’s voice was low and cold.
“Have our undercover Baleful Star leak the information to the Shadow Lotus Cult. Tell them that if they kill him, they can get their hands on a sealed object!”
“This... is that wise? If word gets out that the Security Bureau is hiring killers...”
“Hiring killers? Don’t worry, word won’t get out. And even if it did, we’d just call it pitting our enemies against each other!”
“I see. Very well.”
...
Huang City.
The apartment.
“Sigh. It’s better that you’re leaving. It’s for the best.”
“With your looks, staying in the Li family for too long wouldn’t have ended well anyway.”
Chef Dong let out a long sigh, standing under the range hood as he smoked a cigarette.
Yin Yang held a cup of coffee, taking a sip as he spoke.
“Dong Xin and Dong Yue’s mother was killed by the Third Young Master, wasn’t she?”
Chef Dong’s hand trembled, and he looked at Yin Yang with a face full of shock.
“That’s why you were so angry when you found out I was one of the Third Young Master’s men. You didn’t want them associating with me, right?”
Chef Dong took a deep breath.
“Who told you that?”
Yin Yang took another sip of coffee, thinking to himself that the person who told him would probably terrify the chef.
Seeing his silence, Chef Dong assumed Yin Yang didn’t want to say. He took a drag of his cigarette before continuing on his own.
“They called it a case of drunken depravity. They gave me a sum of money and told me to go collect her.”
“Do you know what I used to bring her home?”
Chef Dong looked at Yin Yang, his expression a haunting mix of a sob and a smile.
Yin Yang shook his head. Chef Dong gestured with his hands in front of him.
“A cardboard box about this big. That was enough to fit all of her.”
“I found her head first in the room. Then her fingers, her ears, her torso, and her left arm.”
“I searched for a long time, but those were the only parts I could find. I never found her internal organs, her legs, or her right arm.”
Chef Dong’s eyes were hollow, his voice calm, as if he were telling someone else’s story.
“That day, I held that cardboard box, not knowing where to go.”
“While I was lost, the Third Madam found me. She said I was an adult and had to think about the living.”
“I still had two children. If something happened to me, it was obvious what their fate would be.”
“Then she told me that from that day on, I would be responsible for the Third Young Master’s meals!”
Yin Yang looked at him with a hint of surprise.
Chef Dong stubbed out his cigarette.
“You’re curious why they aren’t afraid of me poisoning him, right?”
Yin Yang nodded. Chef Dong gave a bitter laugh.
“Because everything I cook has to be eaten by Dong Xin and Dong Yue first before it can be served to the Third Young Master.”
“Everything!”
Yin Yang nodded slowly and finished his coffee.
“Then why not leave the Li family?”
Hearing this, Chef Dong’s expression turned peculiar as he looked at Yin Yang.
“To be honest, you’re the first person I’ve seen in all these years who left the Li family and managed to stay alive.”
Yin Yang remained unmoved. He walked to the sink to wash his coffee cup.
“If one day you could take the children and leave the Li family, where would you go?”
Chef Dong seemed dazed by the question. It took a full ten seconds before he spoke.
“Back to my wife’s hometown, I suppose. I’d open a restaurant there.”
Yin Yang nodded.
“That’s a good idea. Your pickles are indeed delicious.”
“By the way, I heard the Eldest Master and Second Master both have families outside. Does the Third Master not have one?”
Chef Dong nodded.
“Do you know why the Third Master treasures his son so much?”
“Why?”
“Because the previous Third Madam poisoned him after giving birth to the Third Young Master, making the Third Master impotent.”
Yin Yang’s eyes narrowed slightly. He truly hadn’t considered that possibility.
“So, the Third Master only has this one biological son. Naturally, he dotes on him to an extreme.”
“When the Third Young Master was young, he almost died in an accident.”
“The Third Master sent him to Central City and spent a fortune to have him cured.”
“After he was cured, the Third Young Master actually became a transcendent, which made the Third Master ecstatic.”
“But the good times didn’t last. Before long, the Third Young Master lost his transcendent talent. His temperament slowly twisted until he became the person he is today.”
He checked his watch at this point.
“Alright, I’ve said enough for today. I need to get back.”
“Dong Xin, Dong Yue, let’s go.”
Hearing their father’s voice, Dong Xin reluctantly turned off the game console. Dong Yue carried Canned Food over to the two men.
“Brother Yang, can Canned Food come to my house to play?”
Chef Dong replied with a serious tone.
“First, that isn’t our house; it’s the Li Mansion.”
“Second, the Li family doesn’t allow outsiders to keep pets.”
“Oh.”
Dong Yue put Canned Food down with lingering reluctance.
Yin Yang didn’t tell her she could come back next time, because he wasn’t sure if he would be moving.
It was better not to give her hope than to let her down later.
After Chef Dong left with the two little ones, Yin Yang waited until nightfall. He changed into his raincoat and put on a black mask.
“Canned Food, I’m going out.”
“Meow~”
“You want to help too?”
“Meow~”
“Alright.”
...
Huang City Hospital.
“Hello, is Director Li in?”
“She is. May I ask who you are?”
“Oh, I’m one of Director Li’s patients. I’m here for a follow-up.”
“I see.”
The young nurse agreed and led Yin Yang to an office.
“Director Li is busy. Please wait a moment.”
“Thank you.”
As soon as the nurse turned around, Yin Yang slipped into the office.
“Get out!”
Director Li barked the order without even looking up.
Yin Yang acted as if he hadn’t heard a word and walked right up to her desk.
Director Li looked up. She froze when she saw his attire.
“Who are you?”
Yin Yang grinned.
“It doesn’t matter if Director Li doesn’t recognize me. You should recognize this, though, right?”
As Yin Yang spoke, he snapped his fingers. A black hand emerged from the shadows, holding out a human head for Director Li to see.
It was the head of her eldest brother.
“Aaaaah!!!”
