Chapter 153 · Volume 1

You Really Aren't a Transcendent

“The Second Madam's pets were killed. Captain Wang is currently investigating, and we hope everyone will cooperate.”
Inside the large courtyard, Wang Bo was giving a lecture. As the butler, all the servants fell under his management.
Captain Wang, standing to the side, gave him a grateful smile before walking up to a cleaner.
“Where is your usual area of responsibility?”
“Just this courtyard.”
“Did you notice anything unusual last night?”
“No.”
“Truly nothing?”
“Truly nothing.”
“Mm.”
Captain Wang questioned them one by one, soon reaching Yin Yang.
When he noticed Yin Yang was a unfamiliar face, his expression grew several degrees more serious.
“New here?”
“Yes.”
“How long has it been?”
“Half a month.”
“Where are you stationed?”
“The greenhouse and the back garden.”
Upon hearing this, Captain Wang's expression darkened even further.
The reason was simple: the back garden had no surveillance cameras!
A fresh face had arrived just half a month ago, and then this happened in the Li family home—and the man worked in a place without surveillance. How could this not be suspicious?
“What were you doing last night?”
“Sleeping.”
Yin Yang had a look of complete bewilderment, as if his expression were saying, 'What else would I be doing besides sleeping?'
“Did you hear any noises during the night?”
Yin Yang thought about it very seriously before saying, “Nothing special. Just the sound of the wind.”
“The wind?”
“Yes.”
Captain Wang gave him a long, searching look before moving on to question the next person.
It took over an hour to finish questioning all the servants.
The butler clapped his hands, signaling everyone to return to work.
However, before leaving, Yin Yang noticed that Captain Wang's gaze remained fixed on him.
Yin Yang didn't feel the slightest bit guilty. It really hadn't been him—if they had a problem, they should take it up with Canned Food.
Back at the greenhouse, the two little ones were already waiting.
Since meeting Yin Yang, this greenhouse had become their playground. Whenever they had free time, they would come to play with him.
“Brother Yang.”
“Brother Yang.”
The two kids ran over. Dong Xin pulled a small package of pastries from his pocket like a precious treasure.
“Brother Yang, try this. These are pastries from Liu Fu Ji. They’re very expensive! I had to wait in line for a long time just to get two pieces.”
“Mhm, mhm!”
Dong Yue nodded along, wiping the drool from the corner of her mouth.
Yin Yang took the pastry, broke off a small piece, and handed the rest back to Dong Xin and Dong Yue.
“I'll just have a taste. You two eat the rest.”
The two kids put their hands behind their backs and shook their heads sensibly.
“We bought these specifically for you, Brother Yang. Hurry and try them.”
Yin Yang put the small piece into his mouth and looked pleasantly surprised.
“It really is delicious.”
“Right? I love them too!”
Dong Yue looked like she had found a kindred spirit.
Yin Yang split the remaining pastry into two.
“But with things like pastries, they always taste best when shared.”
Hearing this, Dong Yue looked at her brother a bit shyly. Only after Dong Xin nodded did she take the pastry, letting out a happy, honking laugh.
“Honk, honk, honk, honk!”
Her laugh was incredibly infectious, making Yin Yang laugh along with her.
Before the kids could finish their snack, the greenhouse door was pushed open from the outside.
This made Yin Yang frown. He thought to himself that with all the Li family's rules, why wasn't there one about knocking before entering the greenhouse?
He turned to see Captain Wang standing at the door, looking at him with a scrutinizing gaze.
“Dong Xin, Dong Yue.”
“Yeah?”
“You two go outside and play for a bit. I have some things to discuss with Captain Wang.”
“Oh.”
Dong Xin gave Yin Yang a worried look. Yin Yang flashed a smile, indicating everything was fine.
Dong Yue didn't understand the tension; she just walked out while munching on her pastry.
She even proactively greeted Captain Wang at the door, but he didn't respond at all, acting as if she didn't even exist.
Dong Yue felt a bit dejected, but Dong Xin quickly pulled her away.
Before the two kids were even out of earshot, Captain Wang spoke up.
“I need to search your living quarters!”
“By all means.”
Yin Yang stepped aside, indicating he could start now.
Captain Wang waved his hand, and several guards entered from outside, immediately tossing the place.
Their movements were rough, but in the end, they only found two books.
Captain Wang closed his eyes and circulated his spirituality, but he found no spiritual fluctuations in the room.
“You aren't a transcendent?”
“Captain Wang must be joking. If I were a transcendent, why would I be working as a gardener?”
As Yin Yang spoke, Captain Wang suddenly threw a punch at his abdomen.
Yin Yang 'failed to dodge' and clutched his stomach in pain.
Captain Wang shook his hand.
“Truly not a transcendent. Let's go!”
The other guards looked at Yin Yang mockingly as they followed their captain out of the greenhouse.
None of them, not even Captain Wang, noticed that a very faint mark had appeared on his hand.
A Sacrifice Brand!
Since Yin Yang broke through to Sequence 7, he had become capable of hiding the brand by ninety-nine percent. Unless someone was extremely sensitive to their own body, they would never discover it in their lifetime.
After they left, Canned Food emerged from the shadows, its vertical pupils filled with killing intent!
Yin Yang smiled and scratched its chin.
“Don't be in such a hurry. It's not time yet. We have to wait for the whole family to be together.”
“When the time comes, he will also become a part of my altar.”
“Meow!”
From that day on, Yin Yang was constantly picked on by that group of guards.
Perhaps they couldn't stand the way some of the maids in the Li estate would look at Yin Yang with admiring eyes.
However, Yin Yang acted very magnanimously, appearing not to care about their pranks at all. This only fueled their arrogance.
It wasn't until the day Yin Yang went to deliver flowers to the Third Young Master and the guards snatched and trampled them that they finally behaved.
They had no choice but to behave—the Third Young Master had broken their legs.
When Yin Yang heard the news, he personally went to visit them and left a Sacrifice Brand on every single one of them.
He couldn't help it; Yin Yang was worried.
He was worried they wouldn't be there when he wiped out the Li family, leaving behind loose ends!
From then on, Yin Yang's treatment improved significantly because everyone assumed he was one of the Third Young Master's people.
And the Third Young Master's reputation in the Li family was worse than dog shit.
His people were considered just as foul!
Naturally, everyone stayed far away.
Even Dong Xin and Dong Yue stopped coming to play with Yin Yang once they found out.
Yin Yang understood that this was surely Old Dong's doing.
This was for the best; it gave him more time to make preparations. After all, the Li family was a large clan. It wouldn't be good if a few managed to escape when the time came.
...
Knock, knock, knock.
“Hello, is this the Li residence?”
Huang City.
In the Old District, Yin Yang knocked on a door.
Before long, the door opened, and a spirited-looking young man appeared.
“Who are you looking for?”
“Is this the home of Li Lüe?”
“Yes, Li Lüe is my brother. Do you need him for something?”
“Oh, I'm here to deliver a package.”
Yin Yang wore a standard, professional smile, showing eight white teeth.
