Chapter 144 · Volume 1

Ghost Wall

Barriers were much like signals; their penetration was limited.
Most barriers could only seep about five meters underground.
To set up an all-encompassing barrier with no blind spots, one would need to bury parts of the barrier core underground.
The enemy had caught them off guard, meaning everything had happened very quickly. This suggested they likely hadn't had the time to bury the core components beneath the surface.
Furthermore, the underground pipes of Wang City University were buried quite deep. This was why the Vice Chief had sent his men to investigate, and to their surprise, they actually found a vulnerability.
“The Demigods from Headquarters are here?”
“They’ve arrived!”
“Have someone lead them in immediately.”
“Yes, sir!”
The subordinate rushed out. Every second he saved brought the Bureau Chief one step closer to safety.
...
Inside the barrier.
Seeing Zhao Youwei’s lack of reaction, Zhuang Liang sneered.
“It seems you don’t care about the lives of commoners either. If that’s the case, what right do you have to judge me?”
“From the moment I took you as my disciple, I knew you were the same kind of person as me!”
As he spoke, he pressed his hand downward. Hundreds of sharp cones flew out, riddling the wailing people on the ground with holes.
“One day you’ll understand—commoners are nothing compared to your own future!”
Zhao Youwei’s expression darkened further. Gripping his weapon with both hands, he lunged at Zhuang Liang!
Attack was the best defense!
The blade-wielding ghost coordinated its movements with him, launching sneak attacks from time to time that left Zhuang Liang increasingly frustrated.
Meanwhile, the battle on the ground was far bloodier than the one in the air!
The bodyguards, who had initially only intended to protect their employers, had now lost themselves to bloodlust.
There were also several transcendents whose powers were beginning to spiral out of control due to overuse.
Influenced by the erratic transcendent energy, these people began to attack everyone in sight, unable to distinguish friend from foe.
Only Zhou Kexin was relishing the chaos. Wearing a black mask identical to Yin Yang’s, she darted through the crowd, launching lethal ambushes.
“Tee-hee~ Enough, enough! This much spirituality is definitely enough.”
“These people are so rich; they even have transcendent items on them. But I’ll have to sell these off quickly so no one can trace them back to me.”
“One more kill. Just one more, and then I’m leaving.”
Zhou Kexin skipped through the piles of corpses like a happy little deer.
Inside the library.
Wang Qiqu was hiding behind a bookshelf with a dozen or so students.
“Don’t be afraid, students. The Security Bureau is already here. We’ll be safe soon.”
Wang Qiqu’s own legs were trembling, yet he remained standing in front of the students, offering soft words of comfort.
“Heh heh heh... I remember seeing a few pretty girls. I was wondering where they’d gone. So they were here all along.”
A sinister voice drifted down from above. Wang Qiqu looked up to see a Shadow Lotus cultist perched on top of the bookshelf, looking down at them with a predatory gaze.
“AAAHHH!!!”
One of the female students, unable to handle the psychological pressure, let out a piercing scream.
Emotions were contagious, whether it was joy or terror!
Upon hearing the scream, the first thought in the other students' minds was to run!
But as they turned to flee, several men stepped out from behind the bookshelves, guns drawn. They had already been surrounded silently.
“Teacher, teacher, what do we do?”
“Teacher!”
Two girls gripped the hem of Wang Qiqu’s clothes, their faces pale with fear. Wang Qiqu gritted his teeth and stood in front of them, shouting.
“The Security Bureau is already here! It won’t be long before they wipe you out!”
“If you don’t run now, it’ll be too late!”
“Hahahaha!”
The cultist on the bookshelf jumped down, looking at Wang Qiqu and the students behind him with mockery.
“Wipe us out? They have to be able to get in first.”
“Besides, even if we are going to leave, we’re not in that much of a hurry. Right, brothers?”
“Right!”
“Hahaha!”
“I like the one in yellow! Nobody touch her!”
“I want the one with the big chest.”
The cultists leered, their gazes filled with unrestrained lust.
“I’ll kill you!”
Wang Qiqu clenched his fists and charged forward. But he was just an academic; how much strength could he possibly have?
One of the cultists simply raised his gun, aimed it at the center of Wang Qiqu’s forehead, and pulled the trigger.
“AAAHHH!!!”
The students screamed again as they witnessed the scene, already imagining Wang Qiqu’s head being blown apart.
Pfft!
Blood sprayed everywhere!
However, it wasn't Wang Qiqu’s blood, but the cultist's.
The moment he had pulled the trigger, his head had been crushed by an invisible force!
“Who is it?”
“Who’s there!”
The cultists immediately grew tense, realizing there was another transcendent on the scene.
Hum~
The lantern-carrying ghost slowly materialized. Its hideous appearance caused several students to faint on the spot.
Wang Qiqu also found it difficult to breathe, his legs turning so weak he could no longer walk.
‘Teacher, don’t be afraid.’
Yin Yang’s voice rang out in Wang Qiqu’s mind.
The terrified Wang Qiqu instantly found his anchor. Recalling Yin Yang playing dead earlier, everything suddenly made sense.
“Is this... your summon?”
“Who are you talking to!”
The Shadow Lotus cultists naturally couldn't hear Yin Yang. Wang Qiqu’s sudden, seemingly random question frightened them out of their wits.
“It is a part of me, Teacher. It will protect you.”
Hearing this, Wang Qiqu slumped to the floor, gasping for air.
“Who are you talking to!”
The men roared again, but the lantern-carrying ghost had already struck, crushing another person's head.
The cultists were terrified now and began to scramble toward the library exit.
But then something strange happened. No matter which direction they ran, every time they hit a corner, they would find themselves walking right back to the bookshelves—as if they were trapped in a ghost wall!
...
In the air, Zhuang Liang was gradually gaining the upper hand over Zhao Youwei.
“Heh heh, I was wondering how you could use a sealed object for so long. Turns out you’re on drugs.”
Zhao Youwei’s face was gradually turning purple, a clear side effect of the forbidden drugs.
“How much longer can you hold out? Five minutes? Seven?”
“Once the effect wears off, I’ll take your head!”
“By the way, your former comrade’s daughter is also in Wang City, isn’t she? Do you think I can find her?”
Zhao Youwei’s movements stiffened for a split second, and Zhuang Liang immediately exploited the opening.
If the blade-wielding ghost hadn't stepped in to help, that strike would have seriously wounded him.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take my time tormenting her later. It’s just a pity you won’t be around to see it.”
As he spoke, he joined forces with the Shadow Lotus Elder once more to besiege Zhao Youwei. After a few exchanges, Zhao Youwei’s face became an even deeper shade of purple.
Just as the blade-wielding ghost began to worry that his blood vessels might burst, a sudden explosion rocked the ground. Two figures soared out from the earth.
“Hmm?”
Zhuang Liang and the Shadow Lotus Elder both sensed something was wrong; they felt the aura of Demigods.
Swoosh!
Swoosh!
Mo Xiang and Jin Zi charged straight toward them!
“Scatter!”
Zhuang Liang shouted, but the Elder had already moved ahead of him, dissolving into darkness.
On the stage, the ‘corpse’ of Yin Yang twitched; he had felt a familiar aura!
