Chapter 139 · Volume 1

Good Stuff

“Uncle Guo, the Shadow Lotus Church has taken Wang City University hostage.”
“Today is the school’s anniversary celebration. Many high-ranking figures are there, and they’ve already started massacring the students.”
Uncle Guo nodded to show he understood and signaled for Zhao Youwei to continue.
Zhao Youwei found it difficult to speak, but he eventually gritted his teeth and said, “They want the Shadow Lotus Lotus-Root Body. I... I hope to use that item to temporarily stabilize them and minimize casualties. We can take it back once reinforcements arrive.”
As he spoke, he watched Uncle Guo’s expression closely. He told himself that if Uncle Guo showed even the slightest hint of disagreement, he would abandon the plan immediately.
To his surprise, Uncle Guo stood up immediately and took out a set of keys.
“You are the Bureau Chief. Whatever you say goes.”
Zhao Youwei opened his mouth to say something, but he forced himself to hold back. He waited for Uncle Guo to open the door to the Hidden Vault. About a minute later, Uncle Guo walked out carrying a briefcase.
Uncle Guo stepped forward to lock the door, then shrank back into his chair and closed his eyes for a nap.
Zhao Youwei took a deep breath, his gaze gradually turning resolute.
...
Wang City University.
“Who fired the shot that killed that male student?” a Shadow Lotus Church member asked. His companion shook his head.
“No idea.”
“Dammit, I wanted to fire the first shot. I didn’t expect someone to steal my thunder.”
“What’s the point of firing the first shot? Who’s going to care? If you ask me, we should keep an eye on the Elder. You heard what the Bureau Chief said, didn’t you? They’ve requested aid.”
“So what if they did?”
“Heh, you’ll change your tune when a few Baleful Star Demigods actually show up.”
“Then what do you suggest?”
“Stay close to the Elder. If he makes a run for it, we can follow him immediately.”
“Bullshit. What if the Elder needs a meat shield? Being right next to him just makes it easier for him to throw you out.”
“No way, he’s an Elder after all.”
“Why not? We’re the Shadow Lotus Church!”
Standing in the crowd, Zhou Kexin trembled as she heard this. She cursed her own greed for falling for that boy’s trap. If Demigods were going to be involved, was this really something she could handle?
“Hmm? Isn’t this that girl from earlier?”
“Heh, it sure is.”
Two members of the Shadow Lotus Church looked at each other, lewd smiles spreading across their faces.
One of them stepped forward and grabbed Zhou Kexin’s arm. 'Terrified,' Zhou Kexin let out a scream.
The man yanked her toward him and shouted, “Shut up! Scream again and I’ll kill you!”
Zhou Kexin immediately fell silent, her eyes brimming with tears like a pitiful pear blossom in the rain.
This expression only further incited the men’s animalistic urges. They began dragging Zhou Kexin away.
Seeing this, many of the male students who admired Zhou Kexin lowered their heads.
Love is precious, but life is worth more.
Zhou Kexin was dragged into a corner by the two men. Five more Shadow Lotus members followed them, and one of them thoughtfully locked the door.
The seven men stared at Zhou Kexin, their faces filled with cruelty.
Like a little white rabbit, Zhou Kexin backed away bit by bit.
“You... please don’t come any closer.”
“I beg you, don’t hurt me!”
Their laughter grew more arrogant. One of them began undressing as he stepped forward.
“That depends on how well you cooperate. If you satisfy us, we might just let you live.”
“Hahaha!”
“Stop talking. We have business to attend to in a bit!”
The seven men surrounded Zhou Kexin. She backed into a corner, with nowhere left to run. She could only watch them approach with a look of pure terror.
Just as one of them reached out to touch her face, a small knife appeared out of thin air in her palm. She slashed his throat instantly.
Blood erupted from the man’s neck like a fountain.
He clutched his throat desperately, as if that could stop the flow of blood.
The others froze. In that moment of hesitation, Zhou Kexin lunged at the second man, her expression of fear transforming into one of madness.
“Giggle... Giggle...”
“So fun... This is so much fun... You idiots actually fell for it...”
“Hehehehe!”
Psh!
Zhou Kexin moved with incredible speed. She darted in front of another man—two stabs to the abdomen and one to the throat. Warm blood splattered across her face.
Only as she was about to finish off the third man did the others snap out of it, raising their muzzles to point at her.
Rat-tat-tat!
Bullets poured out, but they all stopped three meters away from Zhou Kexin, as if hitting an air wall.
Zhou Kexin licked her lips and giggled.
“He didn’t lie to me!”
“Hehehe!”
Like a spirit cat, Zhou Kexin lunged at the remaining men. The gunfire inside the room drew the attention of several other Shadow Lotus members, who hurried toward the area.
However, because the door was locked, they couldn't get in immediately.
“What happened?”
“Open the door!”
The leader kicked the door open with a heavy thud, and the pungent smell of blood hit him instantly.
He instinctively raised his gun, only to see seven of his companions’ corpses lying in the room.
The man who broke in decisively pressed his radio.
“There is a transcendent hunting us. Stay alert!”
...
A line of Security Bureau vehicles pulled up at the university gate. Zhao Youwei got out and frowned at the barrier.
“How long will it take to break this barrier?”
The Vice Chief stepped forward, pressing his hand against the barrier to sense it.
“This is an internal barrier. If we want to force it open from the outside, it would take even a Demigod an hour.”
Zhao Youwei’s frown deepened until it could have crushed a fly.
Rat-tat-tat!
Another burst of gunfire rang out. Even though Zhao Youwei couldn't see what was happening inside, he could guess.
“Bastards!”
He cursed, then tapped on the barrier and said in a low voice, “I’m here!”
The barrier rippled, and a human face slowly manifested on its surface.
“Where is the item?”
Zhao Youwei tapped the briefcase. Seeing this, the other party smiled.
“Open it.”
With a grim expression, Zhao Youwei opened the case in front of him. Inside was a transparent glass jar.
As the case opened, a lotus-root doll was revealed. The little figure raised a hand to shield its face, as if the sunlight were too bright.
The man’s face lit up with a smile the moment he saw the lotus-root doll.
“Send it in.”
“Release the hostages first.”
Rat-tat-tat!
Gunfire erupted once more. The man’s expression turned cruel.
“Bureau Chief Zhao, I am not negotiating with you!”
“If you don’t want these people to die, send the item in now!”
On a distant rooftop, the Red-Haired Ghost took in the entire scene. On the stage, the 'dead' Yin Yang’s lips curled into a smirk.
Good stuff.
Truly good stuff!
If I can get my hands on that, this trip to Wang City won't have been for nothing.
Yin Yang lay in a pool of blood. The blood slowly seeped into the stage, flowing into the altar below.
Knowing that something was going to happen, how could Yin Yang not have prepared in advance?
He had even thoughtfully prepared blood packs for himself so he could 'kill' himself and fall onto the stage.
