The man in the suit was cowed by Yin Yang's expression!
Whoosh!
The waves surged high, as if they might crash onto the shore at any moment. Yin Yang's expression was extremely grave.
“You have offended the God. You will pay the price for your words and actions.”
The man's face shifted between shades of anger and uncertainty. Looking at the increasingly turbulent sea, he felt a flicker of fear.
Yin Yang slowly closed his eyes and silently activated his Perception and Communion skills. In the haze of his mind, he felt as if he had truly established a connection with some entity.
During yesterday's ritual, he had offered his own sacrifice to himself, but the other fishermen's offerings had been dedicated to the Sea God!
After all, he only cared about the ritual itself, not the physical offerings.
And if the Sea God responded and the fishermen caught more fish, they would surely come back to him for more sacrifices. Wouldn't that start the snowball rolling?
While he could accept sacrifices, he couldn't actually bless the fishermen with a good catch.
He couldn't exactly send a lantern-carrying ghost to help every fishing boat haul in fish, could he?
As for the Whale God—what even was that?
Only natural gods were worthy of Yin Yang's sacrifices.
And the bounty the fishermen received today was precisely the Sea God's feedback.
After all, after so many years, a person who finally understood how to perform a sacrifice had appeared; how could the deity not show some appreciation?
The sea grew even more violent, and the sky began to darken, as if a storm were brewing!
After a full six or seven seconds, Yin Yang opened his eyes.
“You have incensed the Sea God!”
“You shall never again set foot upon this great sea.”
“Because of your actions, the fishermen will be unable to go out to sea to fish—unless you are sacrificed to the Sea God.”
Hearing Yin Yang say this, the man in the suit erupted in a rage born of fear.
“Nonsense! Sacrificing a living person to the Sea God? A cult! You're a cultist!”
“The faith of Huanggang has always been the Whale God!”
As he spoke, he grabbed Yin Yang's wrist, his expression distorted.
“For spreading cultist teachings, you are under arrest.”
Yin Yang didn't resist at all. He merely glanced back at the sea, which had now become quite violent.
Fin after fin rose above the surface.
Those were sharks, the messengers of the Sea God.
Yin Yang looked at the surrounding fishermen with a solemn face.
“Do not go out to sea. The Sea God is enraged.”
“If you go out now, you risk the destruction of your boats and the loss of your lives!”
The fishermen nodded one after another. They weren't stupid; it was obvious a storm was coming. What was the difference between going out now and seeking death?
Yin Yang was led into a car by the man in the suit. Just as the man was about to start the engine, a tabby cat wearing sunglasses leaped onto the windshield. The eyes hidden behind the dark lenses were filled with killing intent.
The man's body stiffened. He had never imagined he could sense killing intent from a cat!
“Meow!”
In the back seat, Yin Yang gave a slight shake of his head. Seeing this, Canned Food jumped off the car.
The man in the suit breathed a sigh of relief and drove away from the pier. As he drove, he threatened,
“Do you have any idea who you've offended?”
Yin Yang shook his head and said,
“I don't know, but you're about to find out who you've offended.”
The man was about to say something back when he felt a chill run down his spine.
He glanced at the rearview mirror and saw a blade-wielding ghost sitting right next to the fishmonger!
Screeech!!!
He slammed on the brakes. The tires screeched against the pavement, leaving two black streaks behind.
The man hurriedly turned around to look, but there was only the fishmonger in the back seat. Where was the ghost?
Was he seeing things?
As he wondered, he saw the fishmonger give him a strange, eerie smile.
...
The man in the suit brought Yin Yang all the way back to the Security Bureau. Just as he was about to use some 'persuasion' on Yin Yang, he saw Yin Yang pull an ID from his pocket.
“I am Ghost Tiger, a member of the Baleful Star unit from the Security Bureau Headquarters!”
“I am currently on a secret mission, and you have disrupted my plans.”
The man in the suit was stunned on the spot. He felt as if his legs no longer belonged to him. He stared blankly at Yin Yang. Was this a joke?
If you had just shown your ID earlier, would I have brought you back to the bureau?
Yin Yang pulled back the ID and said,
“Now you can take me to see your director. I'd very much like to know who I've offended.”
With a thud, the man in the suit dropped to his knees.
“Mr. G-Ghost Tiger, it's a misunderstanding! All a misunderstanding!”
“I'm with the Security Bureau too. In a way, we're family.”
“How about this? I'll book two tables at the Yingbin Pavilion tonight and kowtow to apologize to you. What do you say?”
The man in the suit was as humble now as he had been arrogant before.
Yin Yang looked at him with a half-smile.
“Tonight? You'll have to survive until tonight first!”
“Did you really think the things I told you earlier were a joke?”
The man's face turned even paler.
Yin Yang ignored him and walked toward the reception desk on his own.
“Take me to see your director. I have matters to report.”
The receptionist looked at Yin Yang, then at the man kneeling on the floor, and decisively picked up the phone to contact the director.
A few seconds later, she hung up and said respectfully,
“Please follow me.”
The man in the suit watched the two of them enter the elevator, knowing his career was over.
That was right—Yin Yang was impersonating someone from the Headquarters, and he wasn't worried at all.
Because Baleful Star was the most mysterious group within the Headquarters; it was impossible for there to be any acquaintances here.
Or rather, most people who knew Ghost Tiger were already dead.
More importantly, given the scale of Huanggang, their Security Bureau director couldn't possibly be a Demigod. Thus, Yin Yang had nothing to worry about.
Knock, knock, knock.
“Enter!”
As soon as the receptionist knocked on the office door, a deep voice came from inside.
The receptionist respectfully opened the door and carefully closed it after Yin Yang walked in.
Yin Yang's gaze swept across the office. The decor was minimalist, but if one was observant enough, they would notice that nothing in here was cheap!
Yin Yang casually handed over the Observer's Proof to the man.
“Ghost Tiger, Baleful Star!”
The other man took the proof, examined it carefully, and then returned it to Yin Yang.
“Mr. Ghost Tiger, how can I assist you?”
Yin Yang subtly released a trace of divinity. The director's attitude immediately became even more respectful.
“It's classified; I cannot disclose the details.”
“However, that subordinate of yours is quite interesting. Publicly threatening fishermen, overturning the Sea God's offerings, and offending the Sea God.”
“If he doesn't die, I'm afraid the fishermen of Huanggang won't be able to go out to sea anymore.”
Hearing this, the director's expression turned grim.
“Is it that serious?”
Yin Yang pointed at the sky, which had clearly turned dark.
“He is provoking a deity. You tell me if it's serious.”
The Security Bureau director's expression shifted repeatedly. Finally, he gritted his teeth and said,
“Mr. Ghost Tiger, is there any other way?”
“I know you people from Baleful Star have great powers. Even though he acted foolishly, he is still one of our own at the Security Bureau.”
“If we sacrifice our own person to a god, I won't be able to explain it to the higher-ups.”
Yin Yang's tone remained unchanged.
“He has lives on his hands, doesn't he?”
“Huh?”
“If you don't believe me, you can investigate it yourself.”
As he spoke, Yin Yang stood up.
“I will report what happened here truthfully. Whether you sacrifice a single 'temporary worker' or have the entire Security Bureau hold out against the consequences—you choose.”
