Upon hearing Yin Yang's praise, Canned Food's expression became even more smug.
Its sunglasses were custom-made by Yin Yang. After consuming the Killer potion, it could only keep its eyes closed during the day; otherwise, the light would be so blinding that it would howl in pain.
Now, Canned Food rarely went out during the day, spending its time basking in the sun while wearing its sunglasses. At night, it would lead its subordinates out to conquer territory.
It was no exaggeration to say that if Canned Food so much as coughed now, half the stray cats in Meng City would tremble in fear.
Yin Yang took a sip of his coffee and rubbed Canned Food's head.
"The business in Meng City is almost settled. Once I go to Wanwu City and get those things back, we can prepare to move."
"Meow?"
"Yeah, I already have a target in mind."
"Meow~"
"Haha, you're willing to give up such a large territory to come with me?"
"Meow!"
Yin Yang smiled even wider and rubbed its head again.
"Alright. When the time comes, I'll help you collect the materials for a promotion potion. You might even become a Sequence 8 soon."
"Meow~"
Canned Food sunned its belly comfortably, showing no interest in Sequence 8.
Yin Yang finished his coffee and began washing the cup.
"Boss."
"Hmm?"
Yin Yang looked toward the door to see Wang Nan, dressed in white casual wear, waving at him with a smile.
"Oh, it's you. Long time no see."
"Yeah, long time no see."
They hadn't seen each other for over half a month since Wang Gen's last visit.
"Aren't you working today?"
"I quit. I'm not working at the hospital anymore."
Yin Yang gave her a thumbs up.
"Being free is nice."
Wang Nan smiled even more brightly.
"Wow, why is Canned Food wearing sunglasses? Is this some kind of marketing tactic, Boss?"
"No, its eyes have been sensitive to light lately, so I ordered a pair for it. It seems to be working well."
"Oh, I see."
Wang Nan crouched beside Canned Food and rubbed its belly. Canned Food let out a satisfied purr, clearly enjoying the attention.
Yin Yang put the clean cup away and wiped his hands.
"Just passing by?"
"Yeah."
Yin Yang picked up a small spray bottle and watered the flowers.
"I saw on the news that things have been busy at the Security Bureau again. Your dad must be swamped, right?"
"Sigh, yeah. He hasn't been home for days."
Wang Nan sighed and found a stool to sit on.
"I don't know what's happened these past two months. Meng City used to be so peaceful."
Yin Yang smiled.
"It wasn't peaceful; they were just hidden well. Now, someone has just brought everything out into the open."
"These things... if they're not on the scale, they weigh nothing. But once they are, even a thousand pounds won't stop them."
Wang Nan nodded, only half-understanding.
"You know so much."
"It's not that I know a lot; I just like to read. This is all wisdom from books."
"Huh? Reading is so boring."
Yin Yang put down the spray bottle and trimmed a few branches.
"Whenever my heart feels restless, I like to read. It helps me calm down quickly."
"I see."
Wang Nan answered absentmindedly, clearly not agreeing with him.
Screech!
The piercing sound of tires skidding echoed. Yin Yang didn't even need to look up to know who it was.
Sure enough, a moment later, Wang Gen, built like a double-door refrigerator, walked into the shop.
Wang Nan looked like a thief caught in the act, not daring to lift her head. Yin Yang, however, smiled and waved at him.
"Bureau Chief Wang, here to buy flowers?"
"No, I'm here to check on my 'flowers.' I'm afraid someone might steal the flowers along with the pots."
Wang Nan felt even more guilty at those words. Yin Yang laughed.
"You're very humorous, Bureau Chief. This is a flower shop; how could I steal flowers?"
"Hmph!"
Wang Gen snorted and looked around the shop before suddenly asking, "I remember you said before that when you went to the Security Bureau to deliver flowers, it was because a man in a raincoat told you to?"
"That's right."
"Is there surveillance footage?"
"There is, but I heard it only stores two weeks of footage. It's been so long that it's probably been overwritten by now."
"You didn't make a copy?"
Yin Yang looked a bit embarrassed.
"Uh, I don't really understand these electronic products."
"Oh? Don't you young people love playing with phones?"
Wang Gen grew more suspicious, but Yin Yang just shrugged.
"It depends on the person. I usually prefer raising flowers, reading, and drinking coffee."
Wang Nan's eyes brightened at his words, while Wang Gen's face grew darker. He was asking for information, not a character profile!
"Take me to see it."
"Right here."
Yin Yang pointed to the computer behind the counter. "I rarely touch it. You can look through it yourself, Bureau Chief."
Wang Gen didn't stand on ceremony. He stepped forward and began operating the computer. Soon, he pulled up the surveillance footage. After looking through it, he found nothing out of the ordinary—just buying, selling, and delivering flowers. There wasn't a single suspicious person.
"Is that person still not caught?" Yin Yang asked with feigned curiosity.
Wang Gen gave a non-committal grunt, his expression sour. He felt like the kid was mocking him.
"A lot of people have gone missing in Meng City lately. About thirty of them. No one has reported it yet. I suspect they're all bachelors like you."
Wang Gen deliberately tried to scare Yin Yang, and Yin Yang did indeed look "scared," his face turning pale.
"Bachelors? Thirty people?"
"Yeah. They vanished without a trace, and we can't find anything on surveillance. we suspect transcendents are involved!"
Seeing Yin Yang's pale face, Wang Gen felt a sense of satisfaction. But in the next second, the boy glanced at his daughter.
Based on Wang Gen's years of experience, that look meant: 'If we start dating, would I still count as a bachelor?'
Wang Gen stood up abruptly and stepped forward to block Yin Yang's view.
"Be careful, you hear me?"
"Oh, thank you, Bureau Chief Wang."
Wang Gen snorted, feeling a bit bitter. The "cabbage" he had raised with such care was likely going to be uprooted by a pig.
Yin Yang's smile was bright, but his mind flashed back to a scene from years ago. A much younger Wang Gen had roared, "Put the child down!"
Even though Wang Gen probably saw it as just his duty, it was the only warmth Yin Yang had ever felt in Meng City.
...
Meng City.
In the wilderness.
The moment the bird-faced man lit the bonfire again, Yin Yang arrived.
The man checked his ticket and summoned the fire gate once more. Yin Yang stepped inside.
He didn't linger at the stalls outside, heading straight for the remote shop where he had met Ye Muchun last time.
Ye Muchun was already waiting inside. He stood up immediately upon seeing Yin Yang, his expression excited.
Yin Yang knew what he was waiting for. He casually tossed the badge to him.
"It's done. This is the proof. You can have someone verify it."
Ye Muchun's face flushed with excitement. He had definitely found the right person!
