Chapter 45 · Volume 1

The Perverted Elf

Snapping back to reality, he dispelled the ice magic on the receptionist and headed over to the quest area.
The layout of the Toka City Adventurer's Guild was the same as the one in Adewang Town, featuring a split design of a quest area and a lounge area.
The only difference was the scale.
The Toka City Adventurer's Guild was several times larger than the one in Adewang Town.
And the quality of the quests was also much higher.
With just a brief glance, Xia De could already see a massive number of C-rank and B-rank quests, with those below C-rank being simply countless!
There were even over a dozen A-rank quests!
It truly was a big city.
A hint of excitement gleamed in Xia De's eyes, his mind filled with admiration for the big city.
The targets of A-rank quests had a minimum strength of Tier Five, Rank Seven.
To him, those were just barely edible snacks!
Through his continuous research combined with Hilia's knowledge, he had fully figured out how the Adventurer's Guild evaluated quest ranks.
S-rank: Tier Seven and above
A-rank: Tier Five and Tier Six
B-rank: Tier Three to Tier Four
C-rank: Tier Two to Tier Three
D-rank: Average strength at extraordinary Tier One
E-rank: Average strength of a strong ordinary person who has not yet stepped into the extraordinary realm
For him, the lowest tier that could noticeably boost his Combat Power after devouring was Tier Five.
Although anything below Tier Five could still grant him a boost, it only amounted to a few points or at most dozens of points. It was practically tasteless, yet a waste to throw away.
Soon, his gaze locked onto a specific quest.
【Quest Name: Monster Subjugation (A-rank)
Quest Details: Decaywood Gorilla, located inside a tree hollow on the forty-third floor of Toka Dungeon. Strength currently evaluated at Tier Five, Rank Seven. Retrieve the decayed wood from its possession.
Quest Reward: 3,897 gold coins】
Xia De's hand moved incredibly fast—so fast that the people around him didn't see a thing. They only felt a dark blur flash before their eyes, and then there was one less quest slip hanging on the board.
But compared to the wall of quests, the disappearance of a single slip went completely unnoticed.
However, if anyone had clearly seen the details on that slip, their face would have surely paled in shock.
Because even in Toka, where adventurers gathered in droves, only a few dozen individuals were capable of completing A-rank quests.
Moreover, most of them completed these quests by teaming up.
Yet now, a youth who looked barely eighteen had actually taken on an A-rank quest all by himself.
If word of this got out, it would undoubtedly cause a massive uproar.
This was exactly why Xia De didn't want others to know; he disliked showing off.
Granted, now that his stats had skyrocketed, he no longer needed to hide himself like before.
But he wouldn't go out of his way to expose himself either. He decided to play it safe first, staying in this place for a while to see if any unexpected events cropped up.
Besides, he was waiting to see if there would be an opportunity to show off in a truly spectacular way later.
If he became famous just for being a Tier Five...
That would be way too low-rent.
Pah!
Xia De spat quietly, a look of indescribable determination on his face as he walked down the street, lost in his own fantasy.
“No, no, no!”
“I, Xia De, hate showing off the most.”
“This is called being cautious!”
As if receiving confirmation from some unseen force, he nodded with a look of absolute seriousness.
Holding the address Hilia had given him, he slowly arrived beside a beautifully decorated townhouse and stopped to look.
“Hilia certainly knows how to enjoy life! Renting such a large house all to herself!
This layout, this scale, this decor... As expected of a princess, her taste is top-notch.”
After highly praising Hilia's aesthetic sense on the spot, he retrieved several envelopes from his storage bag.
He walked over to a building not far from the townhouse. A few large words were written on the outside.
“Housing Rental & Transfer Office”
Pushing the door open, he found the interior decor very simple. There was only a single staff member inside—a middle-aged woman wearing a simple dress.
Hearing the chime of the door, the woman looked at Xia De with a polite smile.
“Welcome. Are you looking to rent a property or sell one?”
“A rental lease transfer. Please help me process the paperwork.”
Xia De handed over the letters and certification documents in his hand. The woman took them, read them carefully, and only nodded after seeing Hilia's exclusive proof.
“Understood. I will register the information for you now. Please wait a moment.”
“Sure.”
Xia De sat down on a nearby chair and waited, quietly staring out the window.
This was the first gift Hilia had left for him, meant to ensure he had a place to rest the moment he arrived at his destination.
Thus, she had directly transferred the lease of her house—which hadn't expired yet—to him.
Without any unnecessary pleasantries, Xia De had accepted the idea the very instant Hilia proposed it.
Because this did indeed save him a significant amount of time.
Hilia: Hehehe! Scheme +1!
Not letting the remaining rent go to waste was one thing, but more importantly, it would make Xia De remember exactly how he got his lodging, and who its previous owner was.
That's right, it's me, Hilia!
As long as Xia De keeps living here, he will always remember me!
Living in the same house at different times... if you ignore the time gap, how is that not a form of living together!
“All done, Mr. Xia De. I have transferred Ms. Hinaya's certification to your name. Please be sure to keep it safe, as you will need this document if you wish to terminate the lease or transfer the property in the future.”
“Thank you.”
After receiving the documents, Xia De didn't chat any further with the clerk and walked straight toward the house he had inherited from Hilia.
Although the exterior of the house looked extremely exquisite, once Xia De pushed the door open and stepped inside, he realized something.
The layout inside was highly minimalist. Aside from a few useless pink decorations here and there that hinted a girl had once lived here,
the rest of the furnishings were as orderly as a business hotel.
Walking up to the second-floor bedroom, sure enough, it was still just a few useless pink trinkets adorning the room, with the rest looking exactly like a hotel.
Shaking his head with a faint smile on his face, Xia De recalled Hilia's pink pajamas and said in a slightly teasing tone:
“What a cautious girl. She didn't leave a single personal item that could link back to her. Her femininity relies entirely on these pink trinkets.”
“What a shame. Starting today, the owner of this room is me.”
“Well, I won't bother taking these trinkets down. I'm basically only coming back here to sleep anyway.”
Flopping onto the bed, he exhaled a long breath and pulled out the bundle Hilia had packed for him from his storage bag.
Inside were some of his clothes, which she had proactively packed for him that night.
“I deliberately slowed down to test the limits of Starfall, so I've basically been sleeping rough for two or three days.”
“Time for a nice bath. Starting tomorrow, it's time to farm the dungeon!”
He opened the bundle, and his face instantly froze. He became as stiff as a wooden board.
For a moment, he didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Inside the bundle, neatly folded clothes were stacked in perfect order.
But sitting right on top was a pink nightgown. Beneath the nightgown were brown clothes and shorts, and at the very bottom were a green cloak and shawl.
A few pieces of paper were left on top. On the most eye-catching one, there was elegant, lively handwriting:
“A maiden in love can be a bit brainless sometimes, so please keep this safe for me!”
The subsequent pages either had drawings or messages she had written to him.
Next to the notes lay an exquisite little booklet adorned with green leaves. Xia De picked it up and flipped through it briefly.
She had compiled interesting local trivia, the locations of the remaining labyrinths, and various bits of knowledge she had learned from books into this booklet and placed it beside the notes.
Xia De was very satisfied, Xia De was very happy, and Xia De was deeply touched.
She really knows me well. For the sake of this information, I won't hold her accountable.
The drawings were all of him, with only one featuring her as well.
The drawing depicted the scene of utter despair when she faced the giant serpent, and he had descended from the sky amidst lightning, bathed in blood, landing right in front of her.
Some small words were written on it:
“The hero who descended from the sky—I will never forget!”
Xia De smiled helplessly. He wanted to get angry and criticize Hilia's playfulness, but he couldn't bring himself to be angry at all.
Since you praised me like this, what else can I say?
However, as he was taking inventory of his clothes, he noticed one set was missing.
It was the outfit he wore when he first met Hilia—the very one that had been smeared with her tears and snot.
Wait, wait, wait, no way!
That perverted elf!!!
