“Are you planning to continue writing enhancements for them?”
Faust’s admission of having a fairy’s help took Yusewood by surprise. Although a contract had been formed, a thick barrier still existed between fairies and mortals. No matter how much a fairy doted on a mortal, what could they truly achieve? They were little more than pets, after all.
Yet, the relationship between Faust and his contracted fairy seemed far more intimate than she had imagined.
Furthermore, according to the prince’s story, he had already become entangled with the Empire’s dragon lord. Was his habit of attracting trouble no longer limited to humans?
Faust lifted his head, allowing his vision to clear of his royal sister’s black-silk-wrapped cushions, and said:
“Uh... actually, it doesn’t need to be that complicated. I want you to help me improve.”
The witches were more than capable of growing under pressure; Faust never needed to worry about their safety or success. Although he had already successfully extended the witches' feast once, that success only made him more cautious. He wanted to ensure a steady, long-term progression.
He wouldn’t be accompanying the girls, after all. He couldn’t intervene or gather information. Spending his energy on rewriting the witches' feast would be a waste of effort. Yusewood’s authority had its limits, and he needed to use it where it mattered most.
For instance, on his own personal growth.
“I want to enter a dream for training.”
From his last experience in the dream woven by his royal sister, he knew that the skills and knowledge learned there—and even the tempered will—would be retained.
One had to understand that the path system was a highly subjective existence. While there were physical constraints, those limits weren't always absolute. If you felt it, you could break through on the spot.
Given these unique characteristics, training within a dream might not allow one to achieve merit or great deeds, but the foundation laid was very real.
Hearing Faust’s request, the stunning silver-gray-haired princess knit her brows.
“Weaving a dream is not that simple. While one can be reckless within a dream, it is never pure fantasy; it is bound by the weaver’s own cognition.”
Yusewood shook her head and said softly:
“Perhaps you learned this from the fairy, but my power originates from the distant past.”
“However, I only inherited souls and knowledge, not their memories. My understanding of the outside world is even less than yours. I cannot weave a dream that would truly provide you with training. Most of what I possess are spells. If it’s knowledge you want... I suspect you aren’t looking for mere academic learning, are you?”
Faust’s enthusiasm wasn’t dampened. Instead, he gave a mysterious smile.
“Royal sister, you only need to provide the framework for the dream and maintain it. As for the content, I’ll fill it in.”
Hmm? What did he mean by that?
A dream he wove himself would only provide emotional value; the practical gains would be near zero.
But the brilliant Yusewood quickly realized something, her expression sharpening.
“I see... Lie back down and relax your mind.”
Faust settled comfortably back onto his royal sister’s lap. “I’m counting on you, then.”
The princess of Qingxi had guessed correctly. The weaver of Faust’s dream was not the prince himself, but the veteran Mephistopheles acting on his behalf.
The fairy contract, which linked soul and life, essentially dealt with matters of the spirit. Mephisto could step in as a substitute.
As Yusewood exerted her power, Faust felt himself quickly sinking into sleep, his spirit guided into a deep sea.
【Dear Faust, what kind of dream do you desire?】
Faust: “Turn the intensity all the way up. The harder, the better!”
【Heh heh. In that case, would you like to witness the Falling Golden Age?】
Along with the fairy’s laughter, Mephistopheles’s voice echoed in his ears like an epic poem:
【In an era long, long ago, the first ancestors of the land forged the earliest civilization. It was a time of strength, prosperity, and stability, where life flourished in peace and harmony.】
【They praised the blessings and grace of the original god and sought to reach the Celestial Realm where the Sacred Deity resided. Thus, all living beings united their hearts to build a great tower—a tower that would touch the heavens.】
【This was the Golden Age of Eternal Peace.】
As Mephistopheles narrated, scenes of the so-called Golden Age appeared before Faust’s eyes: a magnificent, sacred kingdom and countless wonders of incomparable beauty.
Floating ships darted through the sky like schools of fish, and mystical radiance flowed like rivers.
Then, there was a tower of staggering proportions.
Extending from the poles to the deserts, from the green waves to the high plateaus... the entire continent served as its foundation. Cities were stacked upward, and the inhabitants of the mortal world lived upon this colossal tower.
The Tower of Babel...
This wasn’t the first time Faust had seen this giant tower. He had seen visions of it before, while listening to Selena sing her hymns.
【However, peace and tranquility were eventually shattered. Just as the tower’s peak was about to touch the zenith of the firmament, the god who did not wish to be reached by mortals cast down a curse and punishment. The kingdoms collapsed in an instant, and suspicion, doubt, fear, and hatred began to spread.】
【And so, the war began. Whether willing or not, all were forced to fight and kill. There was no reason, no excuse, and no mercy.】
【This was the Era of Eternal War.】
Suddenly, the beautiful and serene scenes vanished, replaced by image after image of warfare.
Soldiers charging into battle, warlocks chanting incantations, roaring behemoths, and cold, firing war machines... countless deaths, countless skirmishes.
Rivers of blood flowed, and mountains of bones piled high.
As the war progressed, it became increasingly ruthless, devoid of any boundaries or bottom lines.
Crimson meteors fell to the earth, drenching the green fields and farmlands in blood and lava. Poisonous filth poured into the rivers, turning clear lakes into stagnant pools of death. Forbidden spells raised corpses and flesh, transforming towns into spectral domains of the undead...
【The endless war destroyed the devout kingdoms, and fiends became walking calamities. Curses were laid upon the land, the boundary between day and night blurred, the definition of life and death was broken, and all mortal understanding became meaningless in the face of disaster.】
【This was the Era of Eternal Despair.】
The sky was shrouded in haze, the living dead roamed the land, and decay and desolation spread through the kingdoms as monsters and bizarre entities ran rampant.
Amidst the endless strife and curses, it looked like a scene from the end of the world.
【War, darkness, distortion, despair, pollution...】
【Let everyone sink! Let everyone remain indifferent! Let everyone be filled with sorrow and resentment!】
【In this era of sinking souls! In these years of twisted corruption! In this epoch of collapse and ruin!】
With another wave of dizziness, Faust found he could move his body within the dream. Before him lay the ruins of a battlefield.
Torsos pierced by spears, chunks of meat hacked apart by axes, charred remains scorched by intense flames... corpses in every conceivable state of death were scattered everywhere. The bodies of soldiers, along with their armor and blades, almost completely covered the ground.
Countless corpses were piled haphazardly, some even forming small hills.
It was a scene straight out of purgatory.
【You have arrived in this era haunted by despair. First to greet you is a battlefield covered in curses. Here, there is only never-ending slaughter.】
