"If all goes well, I might become the family's new Champion after this," Sylvia said with a smile. "Replacing you."
"Oh? Is that so?" Alkin raised an eyebrow. "Is this a demotion or a liberation for me?"
"Who knows? You are an outlier in the pack; our experiences with our kin do not apply to you." Sylvia shrugged and stepped aside. "Please, go inside. Take the box of cake and the golden cup of wine. Your Grandmother has been hungry for a long time. Don't keep her waiting."
As Alkin picked up the black box and golden cup to head down, Sylvia suddenly reached out to stop Faust. "How can a foreigner set foot in the pack's most secret territory? Please let him wait here."
Faust nodded to Alkin. "Go ahead, but be careful."
The Prince leaned in and whispered into the white-haired girl's furry wolf ear, "There is something wrong with your Grandmother."
"Hmm?" Hearing such a warning from Faust, the white wolf was confused.
Her instinct was to deny it. After all, what bad intentions could Grandmother have? She was an elder of the pack, one of the Ancient Ones who had followed the Great Moon from the very beginning.
Even if she questioned the pack's order or felt dissatisfied with Grandmother, Alkin had never been wary of that kind elder. The effort Grandmother had put into raising her was certainly not fake.
However... looking into Faust's eyes, Alkin subconsciously compared his weight to Grandmother's.
Hmm... I think Faust is more trustworthy.
I've really chosen a handsome face over my own kin!
Alkin was surprised by her own nature, then frankly accepted it and gave a firm nod.
She then swaggered toward the mansion, her retreating figure as cheerful as a child's.
Watching Alkin leave, Faust's eyes lowered in thought.
To be honest, he felt that even with his warning, nothing would change. Was the current "Grandmother" the real one, or "Grandmother Wolf"?
No, considering the history of the wolf-kin, this so-called Grandmother had probably been "Grandmother Wolf" from the start.
Alkin charging in like that was basically delivering herself as an extra snack.
But Faust wasn't too worried about the white wolf's safety because of his trust in the 【witches' feast】.
Laughable. Even if I die, a witch cannot possibly die.
What Faust was considering now was what to do if Little Red Riding Hood really did get swallowed in one bite.
Where was the Hunter? A passing Hunter, please help!
Faust's gaze searched the sea of roses, eventually catching a glimpse of the new hunting gear he was wearing.
Oh, so it turns out I have to rely on myself after all.
"Such a dashing and free wolf, don't you think?" Sylvia walked up to Faust, placing the rose in her hand on his shoulder as she watched Alkin disappear into the mansion. "She is an outlier among us. Clearly the most talented wolf, the best Hunter, and the family's most beloved future leader. During her training years, we could only grovel at her feet. No matter how hard we tried, we couldn't catch up."
The black-haired, red-eyed wolf-kin sighed at the past. "But she doesn't fit in. She never has. Even with everything we envied, Alkin was different from every other wolf. She was always so elegant, craved fun and laughter, and loved secretly breaking the rules set by the family. Normally, that wouldn't matter; someone is always unable to suppress their instincts."
"Until that day, when she used her status as Champion to wish for freedom... But in this kingdom, freedom does not exist. It should not exist. To maintain this crumbling nation, the pack gives its all and will never allow anyone to break the status quo."
Sylvia sighed deeply and looked toward the mansion. "So, no matter how reluctant we are, Alkin must become the sacrifice. A free and unbridled soul is not permitted to exist in the Fog Moon Kingdom."
"What do you mean?" Even though he had already guessed it, Faust had to play the part. He frowned and snapped, "We came to deliver gifts! What are you planning to do?!"
Sylvia looked at the Prince and smiled sweetly. "She won't be coming out. And you... foreign Prince, you shouldn't have gotten involved in this. This has nothing to do with you. You should have been like other foreigners, receiving the blessing you desired on the night of the hunt and then leaving. But you chose to become companions with a stray wolf."
At the wolf-kin's signal, the surrounding Hunters slowly closed in, surrounding Faust.
Sylvia licked her lips. "So, you can't leave either. But don't worry, we don't want to kill you. We just plan to have you join the family. Your excellent genes are perfect for improving the pack's offspring."
Sylvia bowed elegantly. "I am honored to be first in line to mate with a high-quality male like you."
"Come to think of it, even Alkin never had this, did she? I'll finally have something over her."
Wow! There's even an NTR plot!
Faust almost couldn't stop himself from laughing at Sylvia's aggressiveness.
By the gods, shouldn't this kind of trashy plot happen to the heroine? Why am I the one about to be 'consumed'?
Faust: "Alkin was right. You lot really lack class."
Though he didn't mind bedding a beast-eared girl, he still had to put up a fight.
...
The moment Alkin stepped into the mansion, she felt a strange sensation and shivered involuntarily.
The chill spreading up her spine made the wolf-eared girl knit her brows.
In the past, she had visited Grandmother's house many times, and it was usually quite relaxed. Why was she so afraid today?
Was it because of what Faust had said?
There was no one in the mansion. Alkin walked into the dim corridor, cupped her hands around her mouth, and shouted energetically, "Good morning!"
The sound echoed through the house but brought no response.
Alkin had no choice but to carry the items upstairs. "Grandmother, I've brought you some warmth!"
This time, a reply finally came from the room. "My dear, come here..."
The white wolf entered the bedroom to find "Grandmother" lying on the large bed in the center of the spacious room.
As the ancestor of the Fenrir family, she usually maintained the image of a graceful and elegant elderly lady.
No matter the time or place, Grandmother was always composed and kind.
However, Alkin now saw Grandmother lying in bed with her hat pulled low, completely covering her face. It was very strange.
The outline of her body was more than a size larger, swollen to a frightening degree.
Grandmother reached out a hand and called, "My dear, come to me."
Normally, Alkin would have gone straight to her, but with Faust's warning, she stood by the door, refusing to take a single step.
"Oh, Grandmother," she said. "What big ears you have!"
"The better to hear you with, my dear."
"But Grandmother, what big eyes you have!"
"The better to see you with, my dear."
"Grandmother, what big hands you have!"
"The better to hold you with."
Something is definitely wrong. You're trying to trick a child!
The white wolf's lips curled into a smirk. She leaned against the doorframe and crossed her arms. "Grandmother, why is your mouth so terrifyingly large?"
