"May the twilight arrive as scheduled, may the end descend upon the world, may death shroud all."
The people present all had a longing for death in their eyes. After saying these words with a hint of madness, they rose and exited the room one by one.
Next, it was time to spread death.
As for Annie Spoorberg, she would remain here, watching the changes unfolding across various locations.
In her hands, a map of the South District was clearly visible. Certain selected streets on the map were marked with established altars.
The map even displayed the real-time progress of the sacrifices at each altar.
Clearly, this was no ordinary map, but a spiritual item with special properties!
Although she felt her previous arrangements shouldn't encounter any issues—the sacrifices would surely be completed before the church could fully react—Annie still had to keep a close eye on the map just in case. If anything went wrong, she would personally intervene to set everything back on track!
...
The rain continued to fall, leaving ripples in the uneven ground. In the shimmering water, the dark sky appeared exceptionally gloomy.
Olivia Melianne followed the thin trail of blood, but it wasn't long before she lost the scent. The constant rain had washed away all traces along the path.
She had no choice but to backtrack to the public carriage station, intending to wait for reinforcements before acting again.
Not long after her return, she saw a strange priest approaching through the rain.
Upon seeing Olivia, the priest drew a pentagram over his chest and inquired about the situation.
"Something unexpected happened here..." Olivia briefly explained the circumstances.
The priest nodded after understanding the situation and waited with Olivia for more reinforcements to arrive.
The priest's name was Andre Corns.
The wait wasn't long, as others began to arrive one after another.
Eventually, five full nuns and five priests gathered there, all of the Pilgrim class rank.
The group continued to wait, but even after ten minutes had passed, no one else arrived.
"Strange, why are we the only ones here?" Andre frowned. "Where did you all see the signal flare before coming here?"
Hearing Andre's question, everyone spoke up, stating their situations.
When the answers came out, Olivia's expression instantly darkened.
She realized that these people were all originally stationed on Huys Street. Like her, their mission was to search for targets infected with corpse poison in this area.
But why was it that only those on Huys Street had seen the signal flare and rushed over?
Olivia's first thought was a barrier. Could a barrier be shrouding the entire street, preventing anyone outside Huys Street from seeing the signal flare?
But to shroud an entire street... such a barrier was not something easily deployed.
"Something is very wrong. Regardless, we must leave this place immediately," Olivia said at once.
After the signal flare was fired, it wasn't just the church who would notice; the enemy would notice as well. Previously, she had thought that since the church's forces were rushing over, the enemy would only be looking for trouble if they dared to approach.
But the situation was different now. If no more of their own people arrived, staying here was undoubtedly like standing on the edge of a blade.
The others quickly realized this as well, and they all moved without hesitation.
What Olivia and the others needed to do now was to leave Huys Street first.
The rain poured down, and puddles formed on the uneven ground from time to time.
The group sprinted past, water droplets splashing with their movements.
Olivia thought of the lady she had instructed to go to the cathedral earlier. If people outside Huys Street couldn't see the signal flare, did that mean leaving Huys Street wouldn't be so easy either?
Just as this thought surfaced, she felt a throbbing pain in her brow, as if some danger was descending.
This was her spirituality ringing with alarm!
"Watch out!"
Several people, including Olivia, shouted at once. Clearly, she wasn't the only one who sensed something was wrong.
In the next moment, a large group of people emerged from the buildings on both sides of the street. Each was dressed in a black cloak and wielding various weapons as they charged toward them.
A battle broke out without any warning!
Olivia pulled the Cross Grace from her neck, expanding it to the size of a normal sword, and met an enemy wielding a blade head-on.
Clang!
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The weapons of both sides collided rapidly, a series of impacts erupting in a short span of time.
'He's a Swordsman.'
Olivia quickly identified her opponent's transcendent path.
As for the class rank, he was a Pilgrim, just like her.
She struck out swiftly, precisely controlling her body to master every detail. Combined with the refined fighting skills provided by her Combat Expert passive talent, she quickly seized the rhythm of the battle.
But just as she gained the upper hand, another throbbing pain shot through her brow.
She then sensed a pitch-black arrow flying out from a roadside building, aimed straight for her head.
'A Hunter?'
Another common transcendent path immediately came to Olivia's mind: the Hunter.
Transcenders of this path were skilled with bows, daggers, trap-setting, and even possessed certain beast-taming techniques.
As the thought flashed by, Olivia controlled her body to shift sideways, narrowly dodging the arrow.
At the same time, she sensed a flicker of pain from the Swordsman in front of her.
It was the pain of his webbing being numbed and even torn by the intense force of their multiple collisions.
The passive abilities mastered by an Ascetic, in addition to Combat Expert, included physical enhancement and endurance enhancement. This was enough for Olivia to gain an advantage in a head-on clash; after all, a Swordsman did not possess these passive abilities.
Upon sensing that sliver of pain, Olivia unhesitatingly cast her pain spell, amplifying the agony the opponent felt.
The Swordsman raised his sword to continue the attack, but the sudden surge of pain was so deep and piercing that his movements involuntarily faltered. Tears streamed uncontrollably from his eyes, blurring his vision.
Seizing this opportunity, Olivia swung the Cross Grace in a horizontal sweep, decapitating the Swordsman on the spot.
Having swiftly dealt with one opponent, Olivia moved her feet and charged toward the roadside building, intending to take out the Hunter hiding in the shadows first.
