Feeling the warmth from the talisman, Olivia's footsteps immediately faltered.
She first took two steps to the left, noticing the temperature of the Detection Talisman drop. She immediately moved to the right until the talisman's temperature reached its peak. Then, by moving forward and backward, she determined which direction would maximize the heat.
Eventually, she arrived in front of a newspaper stand.
The stand's awning blocked the heavy rain, and there was even enough space for several people to stand there reading newspapers while taking shelter.
"Kaliron has been so restless lately," someone muttered while looking at a newspaper, their brow furrowed with worry.
Olivia approached, her gaze sweeping over the people under the awning. She continued to sense the temperature changes of the Detection Talisman, walking back and forth near them for a short while before identifying her target.
It was a man with a somewhat pale complexion. He was reading the Kaliron Romance Post, a paper that focused on matters of the heart... well, on the surface. In reality, it published romance novels and gossip news, making it a popular choice among young people for its entertainment and scandalous stories.
Olivia walked over and said in a low voice, "Sir, please come with me for a moment."
Hearing her voice, the man looked up in confusion, but then his eyes lit up.
"Beautiful lady, is there something I can help you with?"
Because of her rain cloak, he couldn't see Olivia's nun uniform. He assumed a beautiful young girl passing by had been attracted to his handsome looks, which made him feel a bit excited.
Olivia didn't say much, simply gesturing for him to follow.
Seeing this, the man followed without hesitation. Very few people could refuse an invitation from a beautiful lady, even if they didn't know what it was for.
The two stepped into the rain and gradually moved away.
Naturally, Olivia couldn't bring every person she found back to the cathedral herself; that would be too much trouble.
As for letting them go to the cathedral on their own, that wouldn't work either.
Therefore, she had to bring them to other clergy members.
In the Huys Street area, some clergy members patrolled to find targets, while others stayed in specific zones to receive the targets found.
Once a certain number of targets were collected, these clergy members would lead them to the cathedral together, which was much more efficient.
Olivia intended to bring her current target to the personnel responsible for receiving them.
However, after walking for a short while, the man couldn't help but ask, "Where exactly are we going? What do you want with me?"
Noticing the man's pace slowing, Olivia looked back and said, "I am a nun of the church. You have been involved in something that might be dangerous, and you need to undergo an investigation by the church."
She raised her hand, letting the cloak slide down slightly to reveal a portion of her nun uniform as proof of her identity.
Hearing Olivia's words and seeing the uniform, the man's expression instantly froze.
"In any case, hurry up and follow me," Olivia urged.
The receiving personnel were stationed at a public carriage stop.
There was a shelter by the roadside here, with signs under the awning listing various public carriage routes so people could understand which carriage to take and avoid getting on the wrong one.
From time to time, a public carriage would stop, carrying away groups of passengers.
A father stood there, wearing an expression of universal compassion that made passersby look twice.
Next to the father, several identified targets were already standing. They all looked listless, having no idea why the church had summoned them.
"I still have work this afternoon," someone couldn't help but say.
"Even if your wife is about to give birth, you cannot leave," the father replied bluntly. His words were in sharp conflict with his merciful expression.
"I'm a man, how could I give birth? And how can you talk like that? You're a father!"
"Stop the nonsense. If you try to leave, I'll use my fists to teach you the meaning of pain," the father snorted.
"Then at least tell us what's going on."
"We'll talk once we're back at the cathedral."
The father's words were very rude, causing the people around him to widen their eyes in shock, though they didn't dare lose their tempers.
They were all just ordinary people. Facing a father who was clearly a transcendent, they naturally didn't dare to make a move. Even if they were angry, they could only bottle it up.
Olivia witnessed this scene as she approached, her expression turning a bit subtle.
Leonard Bowman.
That was the name of the father before her.
Olivia walked over and traced a pentagram in front of her chest. "Leonard, I've found someone."
Leonard glanced at Olivia and seemed to recognize her. "You're the newly joined Sister Olivia Melianne, right?"
"That's me."
"Understood. Go back to searching," Leonard said, pointing to the man behind Olivia. "As for you, stand over here and wait to go to the cathedral with me."
The man's eyes widened. "Why?"
"There is no why. If you're unwilling, I'll hit you," Leonard said flatly.
This blunt and crude attitude caused the man to swallow whatever he was about to say.
Olivia raised an eyebrow in surprise, then turned and walked away.
'Magic mirror, magic mirror, tell me some brief information about Leonard Bowman.'
【He is a father at the Daylight Cathedral and a devout believer, but he has a terrible temper and frequently offends others. The confinement room is a place he visits often, though it has failed to change him.】
'What a strange person.'
Olivia merely whispered to herself. Since there was nothing wrong with the man's character or loyalty, she didn't think much more of it.
After all, humans weren't assembly-line products from a factory; they were naturally diverse. No matter how strange a person was, they existed somewhere.
She continued walking down Huys Street, searching for targets infected with corpse poison.
The rain was getting heavier.
She walked at a steady pace and, before long, found another lady and brought her toward the public carriage station.
This lady didn't want to go with Olivia at first. Even after Olivia revealed her identity as a nun and said the church had business with her, the woman remained very resistant.
However, everything was resolved after Olivia punched a small crater into an alley wall.
It proved that whenever words failed, fists could make things clear.
Olivia led the woman quickly toward the destination.
Just as she approached the public carriage station for the second time, her brow suddenly furrowed, and an ill omen took root in her heart.
In the air, even masked by the rain, the scent of blood was spreading.
She quickly picked up her pace, emerging from an alleyway to look toward the public carriage station across the street.
At the carriage stop, Leonard's figure had vanished. The other targets infected with corpse poison had also disappeared. The entire area was eerily quiet, with not a single soul in sight.
Only bloodstains remained, spreading across the public carriage station!
