Shattered!
The amusement park before her eyes suddenly split apart. It was as if the once-real world was abruptly veiled in an illusory hue, only to instantly shatter into fragments.
After her vision blurred, Olivia felt a sinking sensation. Her mind went momentarily blank, losing the ability to think.
By the time she recovered, she looked ahead only to find that the magical, wondrous amusement park had vanished.
The crimson moon hung high in the sky once more, casting down its intoxicating moonlight. The low-rise bungalows of Aus Street reappeared before her, and the street stood empty.
They were back?
Olivia scanned her surroundings. Ronan and the others were all there, but the Dreamwalker they had previously surrounded was gone.
Ronan also surveyed the area and finally sighed. "It seems dragging us into that amusement park was the Dreamwalker's way of escaping."
Olivia recalled the man's previous chant. With just a single incantation, he had transported them all to that wondrous place?
That definitely wasn't an ability he should have possessed. But what was it, then?
She tried to consult the magic mirror for a deduction, but it could not provide any useful answers.
For a moment, Olivia and the others fell silent. None of them had expected that their final check would actually yield a discovery—and one so extraordinary that it was chilling to contemplate.
Without noticing, the first light of dawn began to touch the horizon.
After pondering for a while, Ronan snapped out of it and said, "Regardless, let's head back to the cathedral first. This matter isn't simple. I need to report this; more people will likely be involved in the investigation."
The existence of that amusement park was enough to make anyone realize this was far more significant than they had imagined. It was no longer something the few of them could handle alone.
The group returned to the carriage. The taciturn Rocas Buchanan took the reins, and as the morning light began to emerge, they headed toward the cathedral.
Sitting in the carriage, Olivia seemed to remember something and said, "Drop me off when we pass Karen Street. I plan to visit the Silman Library."
Ronan remembered Olivia mentioning this before and couldn't help but say, "What we encountered shouldn't have any connection to that storybook."
"I still plan to go take a look."
"Alright, then we'll go together. We'll wait for you outside the library."
Ronan didn't mind the slight detour.
However, Olivia shook her head. "No need. The Silman Library won't open this early. I'll probably have to wait. I can wait on the street by myself, grab some breakfast, and look at the scenery. You all still need to go back and report tonight's findings."
Upon hearing this, Ronan said, "Then I'll have to trouble you to walk back to the Daylight Cathedral on your own."
Olivia didn't mind walking back. After all, besides checking the Legends of the South District at the Silman Library again, she had another task to perform.
Karen Street wasn't far from Aus Street. It was very peaceful on this chilly morning, with few people to be seen. The residents of this street were relatively well-off, and those with higher incomes tended to wake up a bit later.
Olivia got off the carriage and watched it depart before heading to a breakfast shop on Karen Street. She spent 10 Belu on milk and a ham sandwich to settle her breakfast.
Afterward, she bought a copy of the Kaliron Morning Post and arrived outside the Silman Library. As expected, it wasn't open yet.
However, there were several public benches on the roadside outside the library. She sat down on one and began reading the newspaper.
The paper covered various industries, and there were quite a few reports related to the supernatural. Olivia first looked at the transcendent section.
'At the Soltu Statue Gallery on Baker Street in the South District, sounds of fighting occur every midnight. However, anyone who enters the gallery upon hearing the noise finds nothing. After an investigation, the Church has removed several suspicious statues. For specific details, please follow our subsequent reports.'
'At the Nitra River port in the East District, ships were found stacked on top of each other like a mountain this Friday morning. This is absolutely impossible for human strength to achieve and must involve transcendent matters, possibly a warning from a heretical organization. The Church has launched an investigation...'
'On Iris Street in the Main District, a battle between transcendents broke out yesterday afternoon. One side belonged to the Church, while the other belonged to the ancient heretical organization, the Twilight Council. Many transcendents were killed or injured in this battle. The casualty list is as follows...'
As she read, Olivia's brow furrowed slightly. She felt that Kaliron was far from peaceful.
The transcendent section described supernatural phenomena and battles occurring in various districts of Kaliron. There were even several transcendents on wanted posters published in the paper.
This made Olivia think once more about what Brittany Mason had said—that a large number of transcendents from heretical organizations were converging on Kaliron. Why exactly were those heretics coming here?
She had asked the magic mirror this question in private, but even with information from both the monastery and the Daylight Cathedral, the magic mirror couldn't provide an answer. This was enough to prove one thing: the Church itself didn't know the answer.
A short while later, Olivia saw a drowsy young man yawning as he took out a key to open the doors of the Silman Library.
"Looks like I'll be the first one in today," Olivia murmured. She rolled up the newspaper, tucked it under her arm, and walked over unhurriedly. She paid the 1 Belu fee and entered the library.
In addition to on-site reading, the books in the library were also available for rent.
Olivia went straight to the usual spot and found the book Legends of the South District. After flipping through it briefly, she found the librarian, paid a 100 Belu deposit, and took the book with her.
Afterward, she didn't head back to the cathedral. Instead, she continued walking down Karen Street until she reached No. 124.
There was a bookstore here that had opened early in the morning. The interior looked somewhat dim, but the shelves were packed with books.
Unlike the library, one couldn't just browse books freely here. If someone flipped through too many pages, the shop owner would directly kick them out.
After entering, Olivia glanced at the owner, who was focused on reading behind the counter. She then walked forward, counting silently in her head until she reached the fifth bookshelf. She began searching through it.
Before long, a book titled Politics and Society appeared before her eyes. She picked it up, flipped through a couple of pages, and pulled out a slip of paper, intending to tuck it inside.
This was one of her methods for contacting the Rose Legion. She didn't dare use the contact method on Aus Street anymore, but fortunately, she knew several others, and there was one here on Karen Street.
However, just as she had tucked the note into the book and was about to place it back on the shelf, a hand reached out from the side and grabbed the book.
