The God of Darkness’s excuse made many people sneer.
“Shameless,” the Radiant Goddess muttered, not holding back her contempt.
The God of Darkness paid her no mind, simply signaling for another of his believers to step forward and fight. He had brought five followers, enough to handle the current situation.
However, the outcome of the battle remained unfavorable for him.
The believer he sent out this time was defeated once again. This time, the individual didn't even have a chance to surrender before dying directly at the hands of an elf.
Afterward, the elf retreated, and another elf stepped forward. Naturally, the Elf Goddess had not come with only one follower.
“I challenge a believer of the God of Darkness.” The new elf’s target was exactly the same.
Even on the Sea God’s side, new believers were standing ready, their eyes fixed on the God of Darkness’s camp.
Despite this, the God of Darkness remained entirely indifferent, letting his believers take the stage one after another.
Several battles followed in quick succession. Every match involved a believer of the God of Darkness, and in every single one, they were defeated.
Yet, even with defeat after defeat, the God of Darkness didn't care. No matter how miserably his believers failed, it wouldn't affect him, would it?
From the very beginning, he hadn't cared much for the rules of this competition among the gods.
Once all his believers had been defeated, he said leisurely, “Alright, alright. My people are no longer capable of fighting. You can stop staring at me now, can't you?”
Seeing the God of Darkness acting this way, neither the Sea God nor the Elf Goddess felt any sense of relief. Simply ending it like this wouldn't make the God of Darkness pay any real price, leaving a fire of frustration smoldering in their hearts.
They weren't the only ones with grievances. Soon, other deities began sending their believers forward to settle their own scores.
Meanwhile, the Radiant Goddess quietly approached the Elf Goddess and whispered, “Don't you think these rules we set are completely boring?”
“It’s so stifling when there’s someone you clearly want to punch, but you can’t because of these so-called rules. Why don't we just tear up the rules together and let everything go back to the way it was? What do you think?”
The Elf Goddess hadn't expected the Radiant Goddess to sneak over and say something like that, and she was visibly startled. Her eyelid twitched at the suggestion.
When the gods had held their meeting to establish these rules, the Radiant Goddess had indeed been part of the opposition, not wanting to be bound by any regulations at all.
But based on the principle of the minority following the majority, the rules had ultimately been implemented.
The Elf Goddess whispered back, “What you're suggesting probably won't work. If a war really breaks out among the gods, I’m afraid this New Divine Realm won't be able to withstand it. If the Divine Realm is lost, divine power will cease to exist, and we won't be able to replenish our strength. That wouldn't be good for anyone.”
The power of the gods required divine power, which could only be generated in special places like the Divine Realm. After the old divine realm shattered, it was only through various strokes of luck that the gods were able to establish a New Divine Realm. They might not be so lucky a second time.
It was precisely because of these concerns that the rule against gods fighting each other existed.
Upon hearing this, the Radiant Goddess scoffed. “Refraining from fighting just to preserve your power... but if you can't fight, what's the point of having power in the first place? Don't you find that too contradictory?”
“You already said that during the last meeting of the gods, but it didn't convince the majority. So, you don't need to tell me again,” the Elf Goddess said, shaking her head. Although she desperately wanted to strike at the God of Darkness, she preferred to protect the Divine Realm over risking its destruction.
The Radiant Goddess shook her head helplessly and left, heading over to the Sea God to pitch the same idea.
However, the Sea God gave a similar answer. He couldn't bring himself to flip the table and break the established order.
Olivia and the others saw everything the Radiant Goddess was doing. After all, they could ignore anyone else, but they could never ignore the deity they worshiped.
While the others didn't know what the Radiant Goddess was up to, Olivia had gained some insight into her thoughts through the magic mirror, causing her lips to twitch involuntarily.
She hadn't realized that the Radiant Goddess was such a battle-hungry individual, acting as if she just wanted to watch the world burn.
After failing to convince the Sea God, the Radiant Goddess targeted other deities, moving from one to another to whisper her persuasion. It wasn't until the Goddess of Fate noticed her behavior that she was finally brought back.
The Goddess of Fate looked exasperated as she returned with the Radiant Goddess. She said to Olivia and the others, “You lot better keep a close eye on your goddess. This one really loves to cause trouble.”
The group was left speechless by the Goddess of Fate’s words. Keep an eye on their goddess? Did they even look like they were capable of that?
They appreciated the Goddess of Fate’s high opinion of them, but that was simply impossible.
In truth, the Goddess of Fate didn't actually expect them to be responsible for the Radiant Goddess; she stayed behind herself.
“Why don't you go back to your own believers? You’re leaving them hanging over there; imagine how sad they must be,” the Radiant Goddess said, glancing at her.
“Then I’ll just have them come here.” The Goddess of Fate raised her hand and beckoned to her followers.
And so, the believers of the Goddess of Fate walked over. Seeing this, the Radiant Goddess was completely at a loss for words.
Her friend was great in every other way, but she was just too focused on stability and lacked the courage to take risks. If one didn't strike out boldly to break the established rules, how could new changes ever be brought about?
In any case, the believers of the various gods continued to take the stage one by one. The battles were continuous and exceptionally fierce. If they had taken place in any other world, they would have been enough to cause the heavens to collapse and the earth to rend.
The Twilight Divine Domain had no distinction between day and night, remaining forever in a state of dusk. However, the gods could still tell the passage of time.
Unbeknownst to them, several days had already passed in this competition. Some battles between believers could truly last a very long time.
Finally, after another battle concluded, Olivia’s heart stirred. She saw a believer of the Death Sovereign step forward voluntarily.
He was someone she was not unfamiliar with—Cassian O’Connell, the Head of the Twilight Council.
“I challenge Olivia Melianne of the Radiant Light Church.”
It was another challenge issued by name.
