Purple Hammer picked up the Seeker's Helmet.
At the very center of the helmet, the dragon scale had been completely embedded. A ruby-like mark now adorned the middle of the headpiece.
Purple Hammer ran his hand over the inlaid scale, feeling only a perfectly smooth, seamless surface.
“With this scale, I can command a wyvern.”
“Could this be considered a special effect?”
It was common knowledge that possessing a special effect was the dividing line between a magic item and a magical artifact. The value of a magic item compared to a magical artifact was like heaven and earth.
As a purple-skinned blacksmith, Purple Hammer quickly dismissed the thought.
The gap between a magic item and a magical artifact was not that simple.
The ability of the Seeker's Helmet was less of a special effect and more of a blessing from the Wyvern King.
A magical artifact would not be so straightforward.
Purple Hammer picked up the Seeker's Helmet and tapped it gently a few times with his fingers.
By the sound of the metal, he could quickly judge the condition of the equipment.
“The structure hasn't been damaged at all; in fact, it's even been reinforced.”
“The dragon scale has fused perfectly. Both the fire resistance and the durability have increased.”
Purple Hammer couldn't help but marvel before donning the helmet once again.
Now, he just needed to find a wyvern.
The Wyvern King's dragon scale blessing only granted him the opportunity to command one.
It didn't mean that activating the ability would instantly summon a wyvern to his side.
To tame a wyvern, he still had to find a suitable one himself.
“But the wyverns are all in the sky. They won't pay me any mind at all.”
Wyverns were not an intelligent race. Their intellect was low, making communication impossible.
To tame a wyvern, he might even have to break out into a fight with one.
Even as a monster, he wasn't invincible within the Well of Eternal Imprisonment.
Creatures like wyverns, which lacked higher intelligence, simply wouldn't attack Purple Hammer unprovoked. However, once a wyvern determined that he was a threat, it would follow its instincts and fight without hesitation.
On that front, even the blessings of Lady Zeno or Lady Feiwan wouldn't help much unless those two ladies stepped in personally.
Purple Hammer shook his head, clearing those thoughts from his mind.
He then steered his fire-resistant boat in a different direction.
He remembered a small island in that direction where he might be able to wait for a wyvern to descend and rest.
Following his memory of the voyage, Purple Hammer slowly brought the boat to the shore of the small island.
At the same time, he reached into his bag and tossed a handful of fire-resistant iron balls into the lava sea.
He didn't know magic, so the fire-resistant boat wasn't powered by wind; it relied on the Lava Fish King. Therefore, at the end of every trip, he had to offer a handful of fire-resistant iron balls to the creature.
He climbed onto the island from the boat.
Naturally, no plants grew on this island. This was the lava sea, a forbidden zone for vegetation.
The only things on the island were pitch-black rocks as sharp as blades and massive boulders formed from solidified lava.
The island wasn't large. Once he climbed up, he could see from one end to the other without even reaching the highest point.
Purple Hammer crouched low, circling the island to see if any wyverns had landed to rest.
However, after a full lap, he still hadn't found any sign of one.
“It seems luck won't always favor me.”
“I'll wait for a bit.”
Wyverns wouldn't stay in the sky forever; they also needed to find places to land and rest. Since islands in the lava sea were scarce, there was a high probability that he would encounter one here if he waited.
As he thought this, Purple Hammer found a crevice between two upright rocks and sat down to rest.
After waiting for some time, the sound of wings beating finally echoed from above.
Purple Hammer quickly straightened up, carefully shifting his body to peer outside.
A wyvern flapped its wings, descending toward the island.
Its frame wasn't particularly bulky, possessing an elegant, streamlined shape. Its wing bones were wide, the membranes thick, and its scales were smooth and shiny.
“Chee-chee, chee-chee.”
It chirped as it lowered its head, searching for pebbles on the ground. It picked one up in its mouth, leisurely grinding its sharp teeth against it.
At the same time, its eyes squinted, shimmering with a look of contentment.
Purple Hammer carefully crept out, using the island's rocks as cover to avoid the wyvern's gaze as he approached.
“Goo-goo-goo!”
The tooth-grinding wyvern seemed to sense something. It let out a strange cry and turned its head toward Purple Hammer's direction.
Its eyes showed a hint of clear, simple-minded confusion.
Purple Hammer held his breath and went completely still.
After completing the Seeker's Armor, he had given it a silencing treatment. He had applied a matte finish to the points where the metal would rub and collide, while also sewing in fire-resistant leather.
He hadn't expected the wyvern to be so sharp that it could still hear the sound of his movement.
The wyvern continued grinding its teeth, its eyes fixed on Purple Hammer's position as it moved slowly.
Wyverns only had four limbs: a pair of talons used for movement and a pair of wings. They did not have six limbs like true dragons. Consequently, when moving, it tucked its wings to use them as front supports. There was a slightly vestigial front claw at the fold of the wing, making its form more similar to a pterosaur.
A look of vacant wisdom flashed in the wyvern's eyes before it used a front claw to pick up a stone and hurl it at Purple Hammer's location.
Clang!
The sound of metal colliding startled the wyvern.
Purple Hammer hadn't expected the wyvern to throw so accurately. It seemed he was exposed, and he would have to wait for another opportunity. Since the wyvern could fly, it would be impossible to catch once it took to the air.
Purple Hammer sighed, prepared to give up on this attempt.
However, to his surprise, a head poked out from over the rock above him, curiously inspecting what that strange noise had been.
The wyvern's head froze when it saw Purple Hammer.
Purple Hammer froze as well.
He had assumed the wyvern would fly away after sensing something, never expecting it to actually come over to see what was there.
Without hesitation, Purple Hammer lunged forward, wrapping his arms around the wyvern's neck.
Only then did the wyvern realize something was wrong. It shrieked and thrashed its head. In its panic, it flapped its wings twice but failed to take off.
But the wyvern soon calmed down, swinging its head to try and smash Purple Hammer against the sharp rocks.
Purple Hammer reached back with both arms, grabbing the Purple Treasure Mallet on his back to block the impact against the rocks.
At the same time, he quickly activated the ability of the Seeker's Helmet.
The dragon scale in the center of the helmet glowed with a red aura, which seeped into the wyvern's scales.
The struggling wyvern calmed down immediately.
Purple Hammer took the chance to gently pat the scales on the wyvern's neck.
The wyvern's eyes grew clearer and clearer, and Purple Hammer's presence began to feel increasingly familiar and friendly to it.
Finally, the wyvern stopped struggling and affectionately nuzzled its head against the armor on Purple Hammer's chest.
