Early the next morning, Tyr's family boarded a carriage bound for the Callis family fiefdom.
“Are you feeling nervous?”
Inside the carriage, Lanier smiled as he looked at Tyr sitting opposite him and asked.
“I can't really describe the feeling.”
Tyr shook his head. He wasn't entirely a native of this world. Even though he had grown up in the countryside, he didn't possess the innate fear of nobles that commoners did.
Although he had been somewhat surprised when he first learned he possessed the bloodline of House Callis, once that surprise faded, Tyr didn't feel any particularly strong emotions.
Did he feel like he had struck it rich overnight? Not at all.
While Tyr's past life wasn't spent as some financial tycoon, he had belonged to a martial arts family with a long heritage, so he had never been anywhere near poor.
In this life, although they lived in the countryside, Lanier and Ivelina had never let Tyr want for food, clothing, or daily necessities.
Besides, Tyr knew a bit about House Callis. While they possessed a prominent status and countless precious resources, they also had to shoulder corresponding responsibilities. Life there would certainly not be as relaxed as it was now.
As for fearing the ruthless competition within House Callis, he didn't.
As a soldier in his past life, Tyr was accustomed to bloodshed and had witnessed many of the world's darker sides. Therefore, he felt no fear regarding the upcoming trials.
“Haha, as expected of my son.”
Lanier laughed, but his heart was actually very heavy. As someone who had gone through it himself, he knew all too well how fierce the competition for the head of House Callis was.
The victor would become the heir to the Grand Duke, while the losers would be reduced to dry bones.
Just then, the carriage suddenly lurched, causing the three people inside to sway.
“What's going on?”
Lanier opened the carriage window and shouted to the outside.
“Lord Lanier, they say they are Young Master Tyr's friends.”
Sir Adel's voice came from the front of the convoy. Lanier peered forward and could make out three small figures.
“It's those three kids, Loren and the others.”
Lanier pulled his head back inside and turned to look at Tyr.
Tyr had already guessed who it was the moment he heard Sir Adel's words. Nodding to Lanier, Tyr opened the carriage door and jumped out.
Running quickly to the front of the convoy, Tyr saw Loren, Alisha, and Winter blocking the path.
“Have you three lost your minds?”
Tyr could tell they had come to see him off. Although he was deeply moved, he still scolded them.
Setting aside the fact that blocking a carriage was extremely dangerous in itself, a carriage controlled indirectly through horses was much harder to stop than a car that could be directly controlled.
Furthermore, if commoners dared to block a noble's carriage, the nobles might very well order the horses to trample right over them.
“We wanted to see you off, but when we went to your house, we found you had already left. So we had to take a shortcut to block the carriage.”
Alisha approached Tyr holding a small box. Tyr could see that her entire body was trembling.
Not just Alisha—Loren and Winter were also trembling. Clearly, blocking the carriage had put immense pressure on them.
Yet, wanting to say their final goodbyes, they had done it anyway.
“Boss, you must take care of yourself.”
As they handed the wooden box to Tyr, the four of them said their final goodbyes.
Back inside the luxurious carriage, Tyr watched the three of them waving to him through the window.
The figures of Loren and the others grew smaller and smaller in Tyr's field of vision. Only when they vanished from sight did Tyr look away and turn his attention to the small wooden box in his arms.
Tyr opened the small wooden box to find three items resting inside.
A crudely made, palm-sized wooden sword; a small, delicate monocular telescope; and an amulet made from a four-leaf clover.
Looking at the three items in the wooden box, it wasn't hard for Tyr to guess who they were from.
The wooden sword was likely made by Loren himself. Unlike the knight swords of this world, it was crafted in the style of an Eastern sword.
When Tyr had taught Loren basic swordsmanship in the past, he had once drawn its shape on the ground with a twig.
The monocular telescope was probably from Winter. Tyr still remembered the first time he ran into Winter being bullied. It had started with some other kids stealing his telescope. When Winter tried to get it back, they ended up taking his glasses too.
Tyr had been the one to win this telescope back for him. He had heard it was a birthday present from Winter's father, and Winter cherished it dearly.
Back when the telescope was stolen, the usually introverted Winter had actually thrown punches at those bratty kids, even though he lost. Tyr hadn't expected Winter to give it to him.
Finally, there was the four-leaf clover. Tyr had once told Alisha that four-leaf clovers symbolized luck and happiness.
After taking everything out to look at them, Tyr carefully placed them back into the box, closed the lid, and held it tightly in his arms.
Tyr turned his head to look back in the direction of Loren and the others, but they were now too far apart, and he could no longer see them at all.
A pang of sadness brushed through Tyr's heart. He didn't know if he would ever have the chance to see them again after this parting.
The carriage traveled for a day and a night. In the evening, after having dinner with his mother, Ivelina, Tyr slept inside the carriage.
Although this world had not developed an industrial technology tree, many of its facilities actually surpassed those of Earth in his past life thanks to magic.
However, these things were incredibly expensive, and only nobles and wealthy merchants could afford them.
As a result, the carriage was quite comfortable. Even after riding for a day and a night and sleeping in such a cramped space, Tyr didn't feel the slightest discomfort.
The next morning, Tyr was sitting on a rock, holding a large bowl as he ate breakfast.
Suddenly, the knights who were eating stopped their movements and looked around alertly.
Tyr immediately stood up, wanting to run toward his parents. Although he didn't know what was happening yet, whatever could put the knights on high alert was definitely nothing good.
But before he could make a move, his father Lanier, his mother Ivelina, and the knights acted first.
A vast wave of magic power surged from Lanier's body. Reaching out, a pitch-black magic sword appeared in his hand, and his figure instantly vanished, leaving only an afterimage behind.
Ivelina moved at the exact same moment. A golden light rippled in her eyes as golden waves expanded from her body, ultimately forming a golden magic barrier that protected the surrounding area.
Naturally, its primary purpose was to protect Tyr. A faint golden film of light shimmered over him, which was a special blessing Ivelina had cast upon him.
“Tyr, come to Mother.”
Ivelina opened her arms to Tyr. Tyr felt his body drawn by some kind of force, flying directly into her embrace.
