Chapter 37 · Volume 1

Sleepless Night

“Young Master, are you really alright?”
Avia's tone was filled with worry. As an exclusive maid trained by House Callis, she had naturally experienced these bloody matters herself.
She knew very well that not everyone's post-traumatic stress response after killing for the first time manifested immediately. Some showed no signs on the surface but would go to another extreme.
“I'm really fine, Avia.”
If he were truly just an eight-year-old child, he might have reacted the same way, but he wasn't.
Moreover, back when he was in the peacekeeping forces, he had killed enemies before. This was far from his first time taking a life.
It was just that the people he killed this time weren't so vicious, nor was the situation a matter of life and death; they were all prisoners who had already been subdued.
“It's getting late. Let's rest.”
Tyr stretched, turned back to his bed, pulled up the covers, and quickly drifted off to sleep.
Avia chose not to rest. Using her magic power, she concealed her figure and silently stood guard by his side.
Not just Avia, but all the exclusive maids of the reserve candidates were guarding their masters tonight, just in case any accidents occurred.
And tonight was indeed a sleepless night.
Throughout the night, Tyr was woken up several times by screams coming from outside the window.
“Avia, what time is it?”
Sitting up on his soft bed, Tyr leaned against the headboard and rubbed his forehead.
“It's 3:27 in the morning, Young Master.”
Avia's voice came from his side. Tyr had already guessed that she hadn't left, so he wasn't startled.
“What number is this?”
Tyr raised a hand to rub his eyes. This feeling of being rudely awakened was truly unpleasant.
Generally speaking, as long as a person wakes up naturally, they will feel refreshed even if they slept for only a short time. Conversely, if they are startled awake, they will still feel terribly groggy even if they have slept for a long time.
“The thirty-seventh time.”
Ever since Tyr fell asleep, Avia had been closely monitoring his state, so she naturally knew exactly how many times he had been woken up.
“Sigh, tonight really is a sleepless night.”
Although he was still very sleepy, having been woken up repeatedly, Tyr honestly didn't feel like sleeping anymore.
He had only slept for a few hours, yet he had been woken up over thirty times. Who could stand that?
Even during his military training, he had never been tortured like this.
He got out of bed and pulled open the curtains. The gentle moonlight cast a layer of frost over the ground.
Tyr looked out through the massive French window. Bright stars dotted the sky, scattered like pieces on a chessboard.
Strangely enough, though the environment of the Sword Prison felt rather oppressive during the day, the scenery here at night was actually quite beautiful.
Tyr pushed open the window and stepped onto the balcony. Below him was a bed of black roses. Now draped in a silvery veil of moonlight, they exuded an enchanting, soul-stirring beauty.
“Young Master, be careful not to catch a cold.”
Avia stepped onto the balcony and draped a coat over Tyr's shoulders.
Starlight poured down, and the moonlight wrapped around them like a sheer veil. The black roses below swayed in the night breeze, their dark petals shimmering with a faint luster.
Tyr leaned against the railing, tilting his body forward slightly to let the cool night breeze brush against his face.
Admiring the scenery at night under the starlight indeed had its own unique charm.
“Ah! Let me go! I'll kill you! I'll kill you!”
“Don't come any closer! Get away from me!”
“You can't blame me for this! You were a sinner to begin with!”
The screams echoing from all around shattered the peaceful ripples in Tyr's heart, and he pinched the bridge of his nose.
Well, in his current situation, he wasn't Su Shi enjoying a peaceful night stroll, but rather Zhang Huaimin—and certainly not a Zhang Huaimin who had been pleasantly invited out by Su Shi.
Stepping back inside from the balcony, Avia stepped forward and closed the balcony door.
“Let's go. Since I'm awake anyway, let's go check on Sevira.”
Tyr picked up a magic lamp from the table, pushed open the door, and walked out of the dormitory, with Avia following closely behind.
Walking down the dim corridor, Tyr could hear screams echoing from the dormitories from time to time.
For the first time, Tyr felt that the soundproofing here was rather poor.
And honestly, the atmosphere of the dormitory building at this moment gave Tyr the creepy feeling of those gloomy castles from Western horror movies he had watched in his past life.
It seemed that no matter how luxurious a building was, it could never escape that eerie, ghostly vibe once night fell.
Holding the magic lamp, Tyr went down to the first floor and found Sevira's room.
Knock, knock, knock.
A moment later, the door opened, revealing Mia.
“Young Master Tyr.”
Seeing him, Mia was clearly taken aback, surprised that Tyr would come over at this hour.
“I came to check on Sevira. How is she doing?”
“The young lady... she isn't doing very well.”
Mia stepped aside, allowing Tyr and Avia to enter the room.
This scene was naturally observed by the several Sword Prison instructors who had been keeping a close eye on the dormitory building from outside.
“The other reserve candidates are being tortured to death tonight, yet not only is he perfectly fine, he even has the peace of mind to worry about others.”
Atop a building outside the dormitory, Ed curled his lips and said.
“For an eight-year-old child, his mental fortitude is the strongest I've ever seen.”
Having witnessed Tyr slay the death row prisoner with her own eyes without being affected in the slightest, Tina gave a very objective assessment.
Inside the room, Sevira was curled into a small ball in the corner of the bed. Her entire body was still trembling, and tear stains marked her pale little face.
Perhaps Tyr's game-playing before sleep had actually worked, or perhaps it was just Sevira's temperament, but she hadn't started screaming and throwing a tantrum like the others.
Tyr handed the magic lamp to Avia and sat down at the edge of Sevira's bed.
“Sevira, it's me.”
Tyr spoke softly, trying to soothe Sevira's emotions.
“Brother Tyr, I saw it again... I saw her pleading eyes, and I felt the hot blood spraying onto my face. I feel like my body is burning like fire.”
Sevira threw herself into Tyr's arms, her voice choking with sobs.
“There, there, it's alright. It's all in the past, Sevira. They were death row prisoners who had already committed unforgivable crimes.”
Tyr patted Sevira's back. Aside from the physical instinct of fear, much of PTSD also stemmed from a sense of guilt over one's actions, so Tyr tried to ease her mind.
A faint golden glow rose from his hand as Holy Power seeped through Sevira's back, soothing her exhausted spirit.
In the room, Mia's pupils shrank abruptly when she saw Tyr channel Holy Power.
As the signature magic power of the Holy Family, the Aglaia family, she was naturally no stranger to Holy Power.
But how could Young Master Tyr use Holy Power?!
