Chapter 10 · Volume 1

The Enforcement Squad

After saying goodbye to his parents, Tyr boarded the carriage heading to the Sword Prison.
Just as Tyr was heading to the Sword Prison, the Enforcement Squad of House Callis arrived in Baron Kaz's domain.
The baron's villa.
In the main hall, Baron Kaz paced back and forth anxiously.
More than half a month had passed since he sent men to assassinate Tyr's family, but he had not received a single shred of news so far.
Clack, clack, clack.
The sound of high heels clicking against the floor rang out. From the second floor of the villa, a gorgeously dressed, glamorous woman slowly walked down.
Lady Valenna was Baron Kaz's mistress, once a dancer in a music hall.
It was worth mentioning that Derry Callis was her child with Baron Kaz.
“What time do you think it is? Why are you still running out every single day? There's still no news from the mercenary group. If the family finds out what we've done, both of us will die!”
Seeing Lady Valenna looking so unconcerned, a surge of anger flared up in Baron Kaz's heart.
In fact, the reason he had hired people to intercept and kill Tyr's family in the first place was because of Lady Valenna's suggestion.
“My Lord Baron~ Don't be so anxious~ We did it cleanly enough. The servants we sent to contact the mercenaries have already been executed. Even if they fail, they won't be able to trace it back to us.”
Lady Valenna spoke in a tender, coquettish voice, her entire body practically clinging to Baron Kaz as she spoke. Her warm breath brushing against his ear and the soft touch of her skin sent a wave of pleasant numbness through Baron Kaz.
It had to be said that for Lady Valenna to replace the Baroness's status in the baron's household as a mere mistress, she definitely possessed some serious tricks.
Baron Kaz, who was still somewhat angry, felt most of his irritation melt away under Lady Valenna's flirtatious teasing.
Enjoying Lady Valenna's embrace, his hands began to wander boldly.
Just as he wanted to take things further, he was gently stopped by Lady Valenna's raised hand.
“My Lord Baron, I have to attend Baroness Elan's tea party next. I can't get my clothes dirty.”
Being suddenly interrupted by Lady Valenna, Baron Kaz was initially a bit displeased, but the moment he heard Baron Elan's name, that small ounce of displeasure was immediately suppressed.
Although both were barons, and Baron Kaz even carried the Callis bloodline, he was far inferior to Baron Elan in this region, whether in terms of influence or strength.
If nothing else, Baron Elan had his own exclusive knight order, which was extremely well-equipped, to the point that it was not at all inferior to the knight orders of some viscounts.
As for his own family's knight order, it had already struggled to stay afloat during his father's generation, and by his generation, it had been completely disbanded.
Although Baron Kaz was somewhat foolish, fawning over superiors was something deeply ingrained in the bones of the nobility.
However, due to his Callis bloodline, Baron Kaz couldn't bring himself to lower his head and obsequiously curry favor with Baron Elan. Even so, having Lady Valenna flatter Baroness Elan allowed him to reap the benefits just the same.
“Then hurry along.”
Baron Kaz released Lady Valenna, turning around to sit on a chair in the living room.
However, Lady Valenna had only kindled his desire without satisfying it. Baron Kaz's gaze drifted toward a small building in the manor.
That was the Baroness's residence. Ever since the Baroness's family went bankrupt, Baron Kaz had cast her aside.
Under Lady Valenna's machinations, the current Baroness was not even allowed to enter the main mansion.
Noticing where Baron Kaz was looking, Lady Valenna's heart skipped a beat. She had gone to great lengths to banish the Baroness to the annex; the last thing she wanted was for Baron Kaz to meet with the Baroness and somehow rekindle an old flame.
With that in mind, Lady Valenna's legs went soft, and she collapsed into Baron Kaz's arms.
“My Lord Baron, I've recently thought of some new positions. I'll serve you well tonight.”
Hearing Lady Valenna's words, Baron Kaz felt a rush of heat in his chest. If there was one thing that satisfied him most about taking Valenna as his mistress, it was her endless variety of tricks.
Thinking about the effort he would need tonight, Baron Kaz immediately dismissed the idea of visiting the Baroness. He needed to conserve his energy.
“Very well, go to Baroness Elan's first. Once you return tonight, this lord will make sure to thoroughly experience them.”
Baron Kaz's hand slid across Lady Valenna's gorgeous face, giving her body a firm squeeze.
“Experience? Why don't you go to hell and try a succubus? They have far more tricks.”
The villa's front door was kicked open, and a squad of people wearing black uniforms marched in.
“You are... the Enforcement Squad.”
The moment he saw the newcomers, Baron Kaz's face turned visibly pale, and his legs began to tremble uncontrollably.
“So you do know who we are? Crossing the ultimate line of our family rules... I thought you had forgotten about us long ago.”
“But since you knowingly broke the law, I assume you are already prepared to die.”
The leader's voice was cold and harsh, his eyes locked onto Baron Kaz with pure killing intent.
He was one of the deputy commanders of the Enforcement Squad, possessing the strength of the Seventh Circle.
Dealing with a mere baron naturally did not require the Chief of the Enforcement Squad to make a personal appearance. Having a Seventh Circle lead the squad was already giving him plenty of face.
Baron Kaz forced a smile onto his face, though it looked worse than crying. “Commander, Lord Commander, this must be... there must be some misunderstanding. Yes, a misunderstanding.”
He stepped forward tremblingly, his legs so weak that he felt like he might collapse onto the floor at any moment.
As for Lady Valenna, she was merely an ordinary person without any magic power. The moment the Enforcement Squad kicked the door open, she had been so terrified that she slumped onto the floor, not daring to move.
“You know fear now? Where was this courage when you plotted to assassinate the Marquis's family?”
The deputy commander looked at Baron Kaz with indifferent eyes. Seeing the man continuing to approach him, he raised his leg and drove his knee directly into Baron Kaz's stomach.
Suffering a heavy blow to his stomach, Baron Kaz collapsed straight to his knees, the intense pain radiating from his abdomen causing his entire body to twitch.
The word “Marquis” slammed directly into his mind, leaving him completely dazed.
A Marquis... how could they be a Marquis?
The strongest escort knight in that carriage convoy was only at the Fifth Circle. How could he be a Marquis? What kind of Marquis traveled with such a pathetic entourage?
While a storm of shock raged in Baron Kaz's heart, another member of the Enforcement Squad walked in, carrying a woman in his hand.
Thud.
The woman was thrown aside, rolling to a stop not far from Baron Kaz. He looked over instinctively. The person lying on the ground was none other than the Baroness, whom he had cold-shouldered in the annex all this time.
