Adam let out a great roar!
His blade swept down!
Watching this, Luo Li’s heart was practically in her throat.
Just one hit!
Just one more hit!!
If he could just split Martha’s skull, this battle would be over!
However!
Martha actually used the single horn on her head to parry the silver claymore with a scraping blow.
Though it only hindered him for a moment, it gave Martha enough time to react.
She raised her arm and swung at Adam. Having gone in with an all or nothing mindset from the start, Adam had no intention of dodging at all!
Squelch!
Thud!
The silver cross sword slanted along the angle of the horn, carving into Martha’s shoulder and biting deep into the bone!
At the same time, Martha’s fist slammed heavily into Adam’s abdomen.
Adam’s figure was sent flying back, smashing through a roadside stall before tumbling across the ground.
Martha staggered back two steps and collapsed onto one knee.
In that single instant of exchange, both sides had been severely wounded!
This unexpected turn of events made Luo Li freeze for a moment, but the other two knights, Belu and Eddie, did not relax in the slightest.
There was no need for chivalry when dealing with demons; they had to strike while she was down!
The two Brave Knights lunged forward, their blades flashing like lightning as they closed in on Martha!
But in that very instant!
Two massive lumps suddenly bulged from Martha’s back, spraying black blood as they burst. What extended from the gore was actually a pair of wings!
Clang clang!
The two greatswords struck the wings, yet they remained completely unscathed!
Martha’s wings quivered slightly before suddenly erupting with force!
The two knights were actually repelled, sent flying straight back!
Swish swish
The two silver armored knights landed on the ground and quickly retreated to the front of the Saint's Carriage. Adam also picked himself up and joined them, the armor on his belly now visibly deformed from the blow.
Fortunately, he seemed unhurt.
Luo Li breathed a sigh of relief.
At the very least, with three Brave Knights here, they could keep the demonized human Martha occupied even if they couldn't defeat her, preventing her from attacking Luo Li directly.
It was then that Luo Li finally showed a truly composed smile.
No matter what, the victory was decided!
Because far off at the end of the street, two figures radiating golden light were galloping toward them!
Everyone present noticed those two golden flashes.
Setting aside the only heavenly punishment knight in Brilliant City, the eight guardian knights were the strongest combatants in the entire city!
The others saw it too. Joy spread across the faces of the citizens and soldiers alike.
"The guardian knights are here!"
"Long live the guardian knights!"
"Kill the demon!!"
The bursts of shouting made the area before the West Gate turn rowdy.
But right then... sensing things were going south, Martha suddenly spread her wings and took to the air!
She wrenched the silver claymore from her shoulder and looked down at Luo Li.
Luo Li met her gaze without flinching.
Martha spoke slowly, her lips forming words without sound.
'Sooner or later, I will kill you!'
Luo Li did not back down either, raising her longsword and pointing it at Martha with a calm smile.
She responded with her own silent mouthings.
'Bring it on!'
Obviously, Martha didn't dare approach her now. Seeing the golden lights drawing closer, she didn't dare linger any longer.
A pair of bat like wings flapped, and her figure quickly left the vicinity of Brilliant City.
Watching the demonized human Martha shrink into a small black dot in the sky, the tension that had gripped Luo Li’s heart finally eased.
"Guardian Knight Hilda!"
"Guardian Knight Nar!"
"Greetings, Lady Saintess!"
The two guardian knights, a man and a woman, arrived before Luo Li.
"My knights, please rise."
Hilda stood up and looked at Luo Li, a trace of guilt in her eyes.
"Lady Saintess, I am truly sorry. I arrived too late and allowed you to be frightened."
Beside her, Nar looked at the three Brave Knights who were clearly exhausted after their hard battle.
"What exactly happened here? Why was the Lady Saintess's authority used? Has the demon army invaded?"
Luo Li shook her head. Having just relaxed, she had no energy to explain. She only wanted to rest.
"Knight Adam will answer those questions for you. Hilda... escort me back to the Temple."
"As you command."
Hilda nodded and leapt onto the carriage, grabbing the reins. She asked cautiously, "Please sit tight, Lady Saintess."
Luo Li nodded and took two steps back, preparing to return to the interior of the carriage.
Suddenly, a chill ran up her spine, as if she were being watched by a venomous snake. The shudder inducing sensation made her instinctively turn her head to look around.
But... there was nothing there.
"My Lady, what is it?"
Hilda clearly hadn't sensed anything strange and turned back to ask in confusion.
Luo Li looked carefully at that spot once more but found nothing unusual. She could only shake her head and retreat into the carriage.
"Hyah!"
With a soft shout, the Saint's Carriage began to move slowly, heading toward the Temple.
However, what Luo Li didn't know was that in a dark corner by the city wall, a silver armored knight had quietly raised his head. He watched the departing Saint's Carriage and whispered softly.
"Martha failed. It seems it is my turn to take the stage. I must return immediately to send a report to Lord Zuka."
With that, the figure slowly vanished into the crowd.
Meanwhile, inside the moving Saint's Carriage.
Luo Li returned the Sword of Fidelity to its sheath and stored it, along with the Moon Banner, back into her storage space. The feeling of exhaustion from surviving a near death experience made her body slump softly onto the bed.
Only now did she realize her back was completely soaked with sweat.
Her clothes clung to her body, and a slight breeze from the window brought a touch of chill.
The young girl understood that this was only the beginning.
This world was far too unfriendly to her and to all women.
Though she was out of danger for now, it was only temporary.
The real danger still lay outside the city, within the countless ranks of the demon army.
She vaguely remembered... that the one leading the demon army this time was a single demon general.
Luo Li gazed at the distant sky. As the special class skills ended, the sky returned to daylight, with white clouds drifting across the blue expanse.
Her heart was a mess of conflicting emotions.
All these changes had caught her off guard, but at least she had managed to pull through for now.
Sitting on the bed, she finally had the peace of mind to examine herself.
She stood up and went to the mirror. This Saint's Carriage was protected by magic circles, so it didn't shake even on the most bumpy roads.
Her reflection appeared in the mirror.
Long silver white hair, a pure gold crown atop her head, and a white Saintess's robe with silver trim, its long train trailing on the floor.
She glanced back and saw that the train didn't have a speck of dust on it. The entire Saintess's robe was enchanted with divine arts.
To a certain extent, it could ward off damage and never needed washing.
Searching through her memories, Luo Li sighed helplessly.
This poor, cute Lady Saintess... she only had three identical sets of clothes and didn't even own a decent set of armor. To put it bluntly, she was just a mascot, meant to be placed in the Temple to receive the people's admiration and faith.
But this wasn't Disneyland!
Luo Li clenched her fists, her resolve hardening.
"I, Luo Li, will never submit!"
