Luo Li had previously assumed that because of the Holy Church, mages wouldn't be particularly powerful.
Now, seeing the flaming meteors falling like raindrops, she reassessed the importance of mages in her mind.
The Mage Corps on the city walls likely numbered only a few dozen people.
Yet, the number of fire meteors they unleashed rivaled that of an archer unit of nearly a thousand.
This was a clear testament to the power of the Mage Corps.
The battle still raged on.
Following the release of Sky Fire Rain, another unit of riders surged from the West Gate, led by one of the four Guardian Knights—Cain!
His silver armor was covered in small cracks, a clear sign of the bitter struggle he had just endured.
Sweat drenched his face, and his conical lance was slick with black blood.
He looked disheveled, radiating a sense of untamed savagery!
"Kill!"
With a thunderous roar, a thousand cavalrymen poured out of the West Gate, following Cain as he tore through the demon army's vanguard for the second time, following Yuna's lead.
Yuna had already led a charge once.
However, her unit had been too small to completely shatter a force of tens of thousands.
This time, led by Cain, a thousand heavy cavalrymen ripped a massive hole straight through the front lines of the demonized orcs.
The once-orderly vanguard collapsed into absolute chaos in an instant.
Watching from a distance, Luo Li felt a massive weight lift from her heart.
Tonight, this series of strategies had almost all been achieved!
First, lure the enemy deep into the city and use urban warfare to whittle down their front-line strength.
Second, use the terrain; for tens of thousands of demons to enter Brilliant City, they had to pass through a narrow gatehouse, which initially disrupted their formation.
Third, lead the cavalry to flank them—not to charge the central command directly, but to paralyze their chain of command and prevent the flanks from providing support.
Fourth, the counterattack begins!
Yuna, who had been lying in wait inside the West Gate, would lead the heavy cavalry out the main road to tear the first opening for the following units.
After making the breach, Yuna’s unit would pivot to rendezvous with Luo Li’s cavalry.
Then, Luo Li would lead the combined forces of Hilda and Yuna to join Cain’s unit in a pincer attack on the demon central command!
The two heavy cavalry groups would meet and split the central command apart.
Finally, there was the Guardian Knight, Nar Alvin.
He was the strongest of the four Guardian Knights left behind.
Despite his youth, he could already defeat the level fifty-five Cain, having reached level fifty-six himself.
He led a separate unit because his numbers were the fewest, though every single one of them was a Fidelity Knight or higher.
As an elite heavy cavalry unit, his mission was simple yet daunting.
After the units of Hilda, Yuna, and Cain finished their charge, he had to quickly identify and neutralize any powerful enemies on the battlefield to prevent the demon army from regrouping.
This entire strategy, masterminded by Luo Li, was on the verge of total success.
And now came the most critical part!
The merciless charge into the heart of the demon central command!
If this succeeded, the war would be decided.
To move stealthily, the demon army wouldn't have brought enough supplies or a rear guard.
Therefore, as long as it was a night raid, the demon army would only consist of a central command and a vanguard, with some flanking forces at most.
The heavy cavalry, having reached their maximum charging speed, could not stop midway, even turning was a monumental effort.
The demon army had no time to devise a counter-strategy and could only desperately try to reorient their lines.
"Saintess! Guardian Knight Yuna reporting for duty!"
Following Luo Li’s orders, Yuna had begun her turn the moment she cleared the city gates.
Now, her unit had merged with Hilda’s!
Luo Li gripped the flagstaff, feeling a lingering fear at the thought of her own reckless gamble.
Fortunately, it was done, all that remained was the demon central command just ahead!
"Knights! Before us are the enemies who wish to seize our land, enslave our families, and devour our people! Can we tolerate this?!"
"No!"
"I believe in you, my knights... Those who do not fear death, charge with me! In this battle, I shall live and die by your side! Kill!"
"Kill!!"
To the Temple knights, the Saintess's words were like divine mandates.
To live and die alongside her was the ultimate honor!
Without even using a skill, her words alone sent the five hundred knights into a frenzy, their roars bordering on hysterical.
Finally, the combined heavy cavalry of Hilda and Yuna struck the demon flank like a sharpened blade.
They pierced the flank's defenses as easily as they had on the first night.
The demon central command, as vulnerable and panicked as a young girl, was met with a brutal penetration by the charging knights!
The torrent of heavy cavalry slammed into the heart of the demon camp without a moment's pause.
At the same time, Luo Li focused every ounce of her concentration.
She knew the strongest of the demons was right here in the central command.
And she was here specifically for that being.
With her left hand gripping the flagstaff and her right holding the Sword of Fidelity, Luo Li’s gaze swept through every corner of the demon army, searching for the culprit behind this war!
As her eyes scanned the densest cluster of demonized orcs in the central command, a nauseating, massive monster appeared!
Its body was blackened in several places, and its limbs no longer resembled anything human.
Its face was a chaotic mess, featuring a severe underbite with two protruding tusks, the face was longer and narrower than a donkey's, with a jutting chin and a receding upper forehead.
Behind it were several stark-naked women with vacant eyes, their bodies covered in a sticky, translucent liquid, with thick, fleshy red tentacles the size of an adult's forearm coiled around them.
She had finally identified the enemy she had to face.
One of the Twelve Demon Generals.
The Butcher, Zuka.
The human and the demon locked eyes across the battlefield.
Luo Li could clearly feel a powerful, predatory lust in the monster's gaze.
'Even at this point, you still dare to have designs on me?'
"Hilda, Yuna, keep up with me."
Luo Li sheathed the Sword of Fidelity and snapped the reins of her carriage with all her might!
"Yah!"
