Nngh... my head hurts.
Grinya woke up on the soft, oversized bed, her hand clutching her head and her face contorted in pain.
She turned her head to look around the room; it was tidy and cozy.
The pale blue curtains glowed faintly in the morning light, the woody scent of the bookshelf was soothing, and a water cup and an open notebook sat on the round table.
This was her dormitory.
Grinya froze in place.
When did she get back?
Nngh... her head hurt so much she couldn't remember.
The more she tried to think, the more her head throbbed, so she simply stopped trying. After a quick wash, Grinya pulled open her door. The warm sunlight washed over her, accompanied by a gentle breeze.
At the same time, her neighbor happened to step out of her room as well.
The two of them looked at each other.
The girl was petite, wearing the academy's green school uniform with black twin-tails draped over her shoulders. Her large, brownish-black eyes blinked as the golden hue of the morning sun illuminated her pretty face.
"You are..." Grinya felt she looked familiar, but she couldn't quite place her name for a moment.
"Grinya?" Kriss said with a look of surprise. "It really is you!"
She gave a small cry of excitement and started to step forward to hug Grinya, but then realized it might be impolite and stood back shyly.
"I'm sorry, Grinya. I seem to have woken up a bit disoriented today. I can't remember anything from the past few days. Please forgive me if I've offended you in any way." She scratched her head sheepishly and playfully stuck out her tongue.
Grinya was startled for a moment, then shook her head dismissively. "It's fine. I can't remember recent events either."
She then added, "Have we... met somewhere before?"
Kriss chuckled. "I know you, but you might not necessarily know me. I'm Kriss. If it wasn't for you during the Wuxin Island Trial yesterday, I would've been a goner for sure. So, you could say you're my savior!"
Grinya's memories were sparked by those words; she still had some memory of the Wuxin Island dungeon, but she felt Kriss's words were a bit odd.
Was the Wuxin Island dungeon really something that happened only yesterday?
She shook her head, no longer dwelling on the headache-inducing question.
"Don't mention it. After all, we're classmates; it's only right to help each other." She kept the existence of the evil god a secret and calmly took credit for the Wuxin Island Trial herself.
Kriss stared at her face for a long time, then said with a giggle, "Grinya, please let me go to class with you."
After saying that, she pressed her hands together, raised them above her head, and bowed. "I'm begging you!"
"Of course you can," Grinya smiled, not refusing.
Kriss proactively stepped forward to link arms with Grinya, giggling as the two of them left the dormitory building together.
However, Kriss's words remained stuck in Grinya's heart like a needle.
It would have been fine if she were the only one who had lost her memory; she could have said it was the evil god's doing.
But why did Kriss have no memory either?
Just as she was sinking into deep thought, Kriss suddenly shouted to a girl walking ahead of them, "Ai'yi!"
The girl called Ai'yi was rubbing her head. Hearing the voice behind her, she turned around. When she saw Kriss, the tight furrow in her brow immediately relaxed.
"Kriss!" she called out excitedly. Then her gaze shifted from Kriss to Grinya beside her.
"Grinya!" She covered her mouth with both hands, gasping in shock.
"Oh my god, it really is Grinya!" After seeing her clearly, she seemed even more excited than before, looking as if she wanted to rush over immediately.
However, the expression on Grinya's face didn't look happy. On the contrary, she stared intently at Ai'yi with an indescribable sense of strangeness. The image of Ai'yi rubbing her head just now lingered in her mind.
Before Ai'yi could speak, Grinya was the first to ask, "Do you... also have memory loss?"
The excited smile on Ai'yi's face froze and slowly faded, replaced by a look of shock and confusion.
"How did you know?" she asked.
"..."
Grinya fell silent. She looked at the other students on the path, seeing them one by one clutching their heads in pain, looking very troubled. A completely absurd thought suddenly occurred to her.
Could it be... that everyone has lost their memory?
What on earth happened during this period of time that everyone has forgotten!
...
The classrooms of Yiertaya Academy were spacious and bright, with a ceiling painted with shifting star charts and the faint scent of magical potions floating in the air.
The teacher had not yet arrived, and the students who had already reached the classroom sat down in random seats, chatting and laughing with their neighbors.
Kriss rested her chin on her hand, her eyes darting around as she surveyed every corner of the classroom. She said somewhat uneasily, "It's so strange. Why do I feel like this isn't my first time coming to class? Grinya, do you have that illusion too?"
Sitting beside her, Grinya shook her head.
She didn't know if it was Kriss's first time in class, but she could bet that it was definitely her own first time being here!
Suddenly, someone burst through the classroom door with a loud commotion, instantly drawing the attention of everyone inside.
The person slammed a newspaper onto a desk with great force.
"Holy crap, big news! Big news!" He was incredibly excited, looking like a crazed fool, but no one looked down on him.
"Did you guys see the Kingdom Daily this morning? Holy crap, it's definitely big news!" He said again, his emotions running high. "I almost pissed myself when I saw this news this morning. You'll never guess what it says."
"What's the news, Carmelo? Just say it already, you're killing us here," someone shouted.
Seeing everyone looking at him curiously, Carmelo stopped teasing and said, "When you guys woke up this morning, didn't you all feel like your heads were killing you, and that you were missing a chunk of your memory?"
Everyone froze and nodded.
Carmelo said loudly, "It's not an illusion! It's not an illusion! News has come out from the palace that this was a terrorist attack targeting the entire Yiertaya region, and everyone lost two days of memory because of it!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a commotion immediately broke out in the classroom.
"No way, is it that scary?"
"No wonder I kept feeling like I forgot something. I really did lose my memory!"
"So you all had that feeling too. I thought I just didn't sleep well yesterday."
However, someone felt something was wrong and asked Carmelo, "Since everyone lost their memory, who was it that noticed something was wrong?"
Carmelo replied, "Duh, didn't you see the pictures in the news? Half the Royal Palace has been turned into a pile of ruins! It was clearly a terrorist attack. The king is even in a coma because of it. The palace is in total chaos right now!"
"No way, is it that scary?"
"Someone actually tried to assassinate the king!"
The students' discussions were endless, and the commotion in the classroom grew even more severe.
Then, Carmelo dropped another bombshell: "After initial discussions, the palace has reached a consensus that this was a terrorist attack launched against us by the Rubite Kingdom. They are currently preparing to send diplomats for negotiations. If everything goes as expected..."
He paused, his expression turning solemn. "We might be going to war with Rubite!"
