On the main road leading to Axi Town, Wilson was leaning against a large tree, his face contorted in pain.
The pollution from the Plague God's virus was even more severe than he had imagined. The closer he got to Axi Town, the worse it became, to the point where all his strength was now spent simply resisting the corruption, leaving him unable to take another step.
If he, a king-rank mage, was struggling this much, he found it hard to imagine how Buze, a mere top-tier mage, had managed to go further than him.
His pride urged him to keep moving, but he truly could not hold on any longer.
Resisting the corruption of a god with a human body was simply too difficult. Only the power of a god could counter the power of a god.
Thinking of this, Wilson began to whisper a prayer to the God of Order:
"May order endure, may the gods reign eternal, let the clamor cease, and all laws become one..."
As he recited the prayer, a warm light gradually appeared on his face.
To his surprise, his extremely weakened state actually showed signs of improvement.
It actually worked!
He had only done it out of desperation, like a drowning man clutching at anything within reach. He had only chosen to call upon the God of Order because he had no other options left.
But he knew very well that it was theoretically impossible to receive a response from the God of Order.
Though he was a loyal believer, in the vast majority of cases, gods did not respond to humans. The more powerful the god, the truer this was. Otherwise, if every believer called out, would the god have to respond to every single human?
Not to mention that in this godless era, even the God of Order could not interfere with this world.
In the last war of the gods, all deities had been severed from this world, either exiled, sealed, or fallen into a long slumber.
In short, this was a godless era, and it should be difficult for even the God of Order to influence this world.
Therefore, he couldn't understand how this divine light had appeared.
Had he really summoned it?
Wait... the light seemed to be getting brighter.
Wilson squinted and realized he could see the source of the light; it was rushing toward him at an incredible speed.
Or rather, it was rushing toward Axi Town!
Wilson's eyes suddenly widened as he clearly saw a woman with angel wings spread behind her, flying rapidly.
Gexi also spotted Wilson. She didn't know his identity, but she was curious why someone was here and how he hadn't been tortured to death by the plague yet.
Gexi gradually slowed down and stared at him warily.
"Are... are you the God of Order?" Wilson asked blankly, posing a question even he found absurd.
Gexi was taken aback for a moment, but looking down at the light on her body that didn't belong to her, she realized Wilson must have misunderstood something.
"I am not the God of Order," she said, shaking her head. "Who are you? Why are you here?"
Not the God of Order? But this light was clearly the blessing of the God of Order.
Wilson shook his head, feeling confused, though his pain had eased significantly within that radiance.
"You see that black storm on the horizon? Someone is reviving the Plague God there. I wanted to stop them, but I didn't expect the corruption to be this severe," Wilson said with a bitter smile.
Gexi looked over, her expression turning solemn. "It really is the Plague God... at this rate, it must be extremely dangerous already."
"Are you going to stop the Plague God?" Wilson asked, though his attention remained mostly on the blessing of the God of Order surrounding Gexi.
Gexi nodded.
Wilson shuddered and asked cautiously, "To stop an evil god... does the blessing on you really come from the God of Order?"
Gexi glanced at him and nodded, not denying it.
Wilson gasped, asking with surprise and excitement, "Are you a divine envoy sent by the God of Order to save us? This is wonderful! We're finally saved!"
"I am Wilson, Captain of the Royal Knights of the Katar Kingdom. I implore you, Divine Envoy, save humanity!" Wilson knelt down before Gexi.
Gexi looked at him with a complex expression. She didn't say much, only asking, "Is Axi Town in this direction?"
She pointed ahead.
"Yes! Is the Divine Envoy going to stop those sinners?" Wilson asked excitedly.
Gexi looked toward the horizon where the unsettling black storm loomed. She took a deep breath and said, "I am not a divine envoy. However, I have indeed seen the God of Order—the true deity."
"Of course, it was thanks to that friend of mine."
"I don't know how she did it, or how she communicated with the god. I only know that she said something to the true God of Order, and then I inexplicably appeared in the Yiertaya cathedral. But when I woke up, she was nowhere to be found."
"But I know she must be in Axi Town right now. She must have had the God of Order send me back to the city, then sent herself to Axi Town to face the evil god alone."
"She wants to handle this by herself, but how could she possibly manage something like that alone?"
"So, I'm not going there to stop those sinners. I just... want to save my friend."
After finishing her sentence, Gexi's angel wings spread once more. Before the stunned Wilson, she accelerated to full speed and vanished from his sight in an instant.
Wilson stared blankly in the direction Gexi had gone.
She wasn't a divine envoy? But she had seen the true God of Order?
Wilson felt that the world had become quite surreal.
...
That woman... she really is doing as she said. She's closing that gate!
Duoze stood frozen for a long time, his expression as blank as a fool who didn't know what to do.
"Dammit!"
He cursed loudly, his face twisting hideously.
He looked grimly at the frost-crystal soldier, which was still busy with its meat-slicing game on the other side, and immediately commanded, "Frost-crystal soldier, we're going back! We have to stop that woman!"
The frost-crystal soldier paused. Its expression suggested it didn't quite understand, but it stopped its movements nonetheless.
Just as Duoze was about to leave, his expression suddenly changed, and his steps froze in mid-air.
He then turned his head to look behind him.
A point of light was hurtling toward them.
Radiant angel wings were spread behind the light, emitting a warmth like spring that made Duoze feel extremely uncomfortable.
As the light drew closer, Duoze finally saw the figure within.
He froze on the spot, his face turning pale with shock in the next second. "How is this possible!?"
"Aren't you in the abyss? How can you be here?"
Gexi also spotted Duoze. Her eyes narrowed, and she released an unmasked surge of killing intent.
"The Goddess of Luck is indeed on my side."
"This time, let's see how you'll run!"
