Chapter 6 · Volume 1

I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry

“So, Sister Tina, you saved me, and when we woke up, we were both in the hospital?”
In a ward of the Holy Academy's northern campus, two girls lying in their respective hospital beds looked at each other through the window separating them.
Sathya had woken up long ago. She, of course, remembered killing Bishop Sheffield not long ago, and even drinking Sister Tina's blood.
Afterward, when she tried to restore her magic core, she had involuntarily fallen into a deep sleep, completely unaware of what happened next.
To think she had actually fallen asleep at such a critical moment.
Fortunately, neither she nor Sister Tina was suspected...
If the Church knew she was the one who killed the bishop, she wouldn't have woken up in a hospital ward, but rather bound to a cross.
Tina smiled awkwardly, playing it off. “Yeah, actually, I don't really know what happened either, since I just woke up myself. I was just questioned by a few paladins.”
In reality, on that day, she had killed all the Inquisitors and fed them to Sathya.
She was already one of humanity's peak combatants, and the time reset had not weakened her strength in the slightest.
Years of fighting magical beasts had made her the strongest existence beneath the Saintess.
But this time, she had no intention of helping humanity again.
Anything that threatened Little Ya would only lead to disaster if not eradicated in advance.
【Magic Core Integrity: 3.0%】
“You didn't say anything?” Sathya asked.
“Say what?”
“Sister Tina, why didn't you tell them I'm a monster? That I'm the culprit behind all of this?” There was no emotion in Sathya's voice other than anticipation; she didn't care at all if her identity was exposed.
Before she could even finish, a voice rang out in Tina's mind.
【Sathya's Obsession: 191】
The current Sathya was clearly no longer human; she was an abyssal magical beast driven by obsession.
Strictly speaking, the thought process of such a creature was entirely different from that of a human.
Tina had also thought of a way.
“What terrifying things are you saying?” Tina feigned shock, covering her mouth. “I remember an abyssal magical beast disguising itself as you and attacking me. I was just about to tell the sisters...”
“Then... please don't say anything, Sister Tina,” Sathya hesitated.
Though she didn't care about her identity being exposed, she cared even less to be hated by Sister Tina.
So, wouldn't it be better to just pretend to be human like this and continue their peaceful life?”
Of course, Tina had this psychological state of hers completely figured out.
“What if Sister Tina is lying to me? It just feels really strange.” Sathya's eyes were filled with disbelief, but she ultimately chose to probe further about those events.
“That monster was quite terrifying. It actually tried to disguise itself as you, and it almost killed me.”
At this point, another notification rang in Tina's mind.
【Obsession: 330】
No wonder it made Sathya angry. But then again, Tina didn't really mind. Whether a magical beast or a human, as long as it was Sathya, she would accept her.
Crimson chaos began to swirl once more within Sathya's golden pupils.
Tina rose from her hospital bed. Her slightly loose white hospital gown draped just over her fair thighs.
She walked over to Sathya, cupped her head, and gently kissed her before the other girl could react.
Sathya clearly wasn't used to such a fleeting gesture. Her sour mood vanished as her face instantly flushed red.
“Don't worry. Even if the monster really is Sathya, I will still keep our promise. Remember? We even pinky-swore back at the orphanage.”
“You said that we must survive together, no matter what.”
Sathya softly repeated the small wish they had silently made back then amidst the burning ruins.
She hadn't expected Tina to still remember it even now.
【Sathya's Obsession: 199】
Sathya fidgeted, looking as if she had something to say.
“Actually... actually, there's something I want to talk about, Sister Tina...”
“What is it?”
After hesitating again and again, Sathya finally spoke. “I don't want to be the Saintess anymore, Sister Tina. Let's... let's leave this place.”
Tina was surprised at first, but then she smiled gently.
Indeed, too many things had happened afterward. Although Sathya was an abyssal magical beast, she was still just a young girl. Driven by her obsession to survive, her mind was still quite simple. It really hadn't been easy for her.
“Now the entire Holy Academy knows the bishop is dead, and only the two of us survived. If we run away now, we will definitely be suspected. Is Little Ya a dummy?”
“I am not!” Sathya blushed. “I mean later. Once this matter blows over, we'll leave the Holy Academy and go to a world with just the two of us.”
“Little Ya, you didn't get scared out of your mind, did you? I suddenly feel like you're being really strange.”
“That's because...” Sathya hesitated, seemingly conflicted over whether to say these words. In the end, she chose to speak in a half-joking manner. “I definitely love Sister Tina, after all.”
“Little Ya really is a dummy.” Tina reached out and stroked her fluffy hair. “Sheffield is dead, and suspicion will fall on us no matter what. But don't worry, we are innocent.”
“I... I'll listen to whatever Sister Tina says!” Sathya nodded. “Then let's stay.”
Tina patted the top of Sathya's head again.
The latter seemed to thoroughly enjoy the sensation, nuzzling against her hand.
For a moment, Tina recalled things from their childhood.
Every time Sathya did something wrong, she would act this obediently.
She wondered on which day in the future Sathya would be deceived by bad people and end up in conflict with her.
Thinking of this, Tina immediately associated it with the crisis that was about to unfold in the future.
Right now, Tina and Sathya were participating in the Saintess Selection.
On the surface, the Saintess Selection was a holy choice, but behind the scenes, it was a bloody slaughterhouse.
To scramble for power and status, the academies became bloody battlefields. Even at the final moment before the crisis arrived, humans were still killing each other.
【Sathya's Obsession: 131】
It seems she has forgiven me a little.
But... I'm sorry.
“Sathya, actually, I know you quite dislike me. You even want to separate from me so you'll never have to see me again.”
“I... I do not!”
Sathya was utterly defenseless. Although she didn't think that way now, she indeed had such thoughts in the past.
She didn't know how to explain, stammering and stuttering. In the end, realizing she had no way to defend herself, she could only remain silent, not daring to look into Tina's eyes. Yet, her restless little hands clenched into fists.
【Sathya's Obsession: 366】
Tina also felt a pang of heartache.
Once again, she silently apologized in her heart. Before Sathya could react, she called over a nearby nurse. “Can I apply to be discharged now?”
“Discharged?” The nurse immediately understood what she meant. “But is your body really okay?”
“I'm fine. Could I trouble you to take good care of Sathya?”
Saying this, Tina showed an innocent smile, her small body curled up in a deeply endearing manner.
The nurse found it hard to refuse. Although the principal had ordered her to take extra care of the two students, Tina was just going out for a walk, and they were just children after all. Besides, after surgical examinations, they indeed hadn't suffered any injuries. She couldn't very well stop the apprentice Saintesses.
Before Tina left, she saw that Sathya's beautiful eyes were already filled with tears.
“I'm sorry...”
Tina silently apologized once more.
