Chapter 21 · Volume 1

A Reason?

Tina gave a bitter smile.
Then came the ringing in her ears again. The System seemed to be prompting her about something, but she couldn't hear it clearly.
In any case, she had made herself very clear.
Next, Sathya would definitely be furious.
And her fate would probably be to become a captive of the magical beast.
Locked in a cage, turned into a canary that could never stretch its wings again, with her only purpose left being to provide blood every day.
Of course, she might not even wake up again, as she would be more useful unconscious than awake.
Or even more tragically, she would be contaminated and controlled by the miasma, losing consciousness. Such things were called "thralls."
She wasn't sure if Sathya would do that, but the outcome ahead was bound to be bad.
At least, for her.
Come on, she was ready to face it.
“Sister Tina.”
Sathya's voice was very soft, like a sponge gently pressing against her ear, cool water slowly trickling down, refreshing and soothing.
She stepped forward, a smile on her lips.
“Since you've said so much, Sister Tina, let me say a few words too. I hate you too, Sister Tina.”
The moment she said those words, Tina almost thought she had succeeded.
But that wasn't any sort of actual "hatred."
“Sister Tina, I don't actually have that many reasons.”
“I've always been quite utilitarian. When I was a child, I used to think, 'If others can do it, why can't I?' Isn't that ridiculous? Hehehe.”
“So I made up my mind to surpass everyone. We're all human, so why should I be inferior to others?”
“So I learned magic, sword skills, and so many other abilities, leaving everyone else far behind.”
As Sathya said these things, she still carried a hint of excitement.
She wasn't lying, because this was talent. Everyone, more or less, had strengths that set them apart from ordinary people, yet none of them could compare to Sathya.
But the playfulness and excitement in her tone quickly took a sharp turn downward.
“Except for one person. She was stronger than me in every single way. Even though she didn't care about anything, and didn't even know what comparison or competition meant, she was a powerhouse I could never surpass. She was as pure as a blank sheet of paper, yet I hated her to the bone...”
“Sister Tina, that person was you.” Sathya wiped her eyes, acting as if she were both repenting and acting spoiled.
“It's quite ugly, isn't it? Envying and being jealous of you simply because I wasn't as strong. Since I couldn't match you, I would hurt you...”
“Every direction in my life was decided for me by you. You probably didn't realize it at all, did you? In truth, I hate you, but you're also the one who understands me best.”
Tina was startled. Her heart was no longer just a chaotic mix of emotions, but a raging tempest.
It wasn't just that Sathya's words were unexpected, but she realized that Sathya was far more complex than she had imagined.
For over eighty years, did I not even know who Sathya really was? No, that's impossible...
What should I do? What do I do next?
【Sathya's Obsession: 350】
No change. Why?
The ringing in her ears came again.
“But I love you, Sister Tina.”
Sathya smiled, warm as a spring breeze.
“Is there any reason for that? Don't you hate me?” Tina sneered, but more than that, she was hiding her shaken heart.
“I don't need a reason to like you. Love is inexplicable, Sister Tina. You are a special existence to me.”
“But I hate you!” Tina stood up and walked straight up to Sathya.
She raised her voice, but every word felt like she was cursing herself. With every extra word, another scar was added to her heart.
“Please stop causing trouble for me. Just let me go...”
“I'm just that shameless of a Saintess, Sister Tina. Even if you hate me, I will still like you.” Sathya didn't give up.
By now, Tina understood completely.
Sathya's feelings for her weren't simply liking or love.
She had still underestimated the power of obsession.
This power surpassed the average person's understanding of so-called love.
This was a trait of the abyssal magical beasts, a part of them.
And it was their instinct.
Therefore, she had to make use of their instinct...
A dagger suddenly slid from Tina's sleeve, gleaming with a silver-white light.
When Sathya saw the dagger, her heart remained completely calm.
Even if she's hurt by me, does she not care at all?
But Tina had no intention of hurting her.
The dagger swept gently through the air, leaving a straight mark on her snow-white skin.
She had sliced open her own arm.
Blood flowed down her arm and dripped onto the floor, making a pitter-patter sound.
Like flowing agate, or molten rubies.
Sathya, whose magic core was damaged, was like a beast that had starved for a week.
And Tina's magic-infused blood was like a delicacy emitting an alluring aroma, right within arm's reach.
Her pupils instantly constricted, and one could faintly see a crimson cross appearing in the depths of her eyes.
That was a characteristic of the abyssal magical beasts.
【Sathya's Obsession: 350】
【Warning: Sathya's Obsession: 550】
This was the final resort.
She absolutely could not resist the temptation of the blood.
Since she couldn't achieve her goal through guidance and coaxing, she would switch to a simpler, more direct method.
Yes, just devour me like this, Little Ya.
Take what belongs to you.
After all, I belonged to you in the first place.
Sathya's body began to tremble, a dangerous miasma radiating from her entire being.
But to Tina's surprise, she was actually still holding back!
“Sister Tina~”
She smiled. Though she was in immense pain, she was still smiling.
She took out the birthday crown she had hidden for a long time, reached out, and placed it on Tina's head.
“Happy birthday~”
“I love you.”
【Sathya's Obsession: 750】
【Sathya's Obsession: 950】
【Warning, Host: Sathya's obsession has exceeded the critical threshold...】
The moment she finished speaking, Sathya lost consciousness.
She collapsed against Tina's chest.
Tina dropped the dagger and gently knelt on the floor, supporting her petite body.
Suppressing that intense desire had caused her severe internal damage.
Although this was nothing to a magical beast, it was enough to plunge her into a coma.
Yet, she hadn't taken a single sip of Tina's blood.
By now, black flames had begun to appear in the room, and the ceiling lights grew dim, as if their brightness was being absorbed.
Almost in a panic, Tina aligned the wound on her arm with Sathya's rosy lips, letting the blood flow into her throat. Fearing it wouldn't be enough, she bit her own lip and pressed her mouth against hers.
She did everything she could to offer her blood to Sathya. She lifted her head, panting heavily, and seeing that Little Ya's condition still hadn't improved, she kissed her again, forcing the blood down her throat.
【Magic Core Integrity: 7.5%】
【Magic Core Integrity: 8.5%】
【Magic Core Integrity...】
【Host, you are about to suffer from excessive blood loss】
But Tina acted as if she couldn't hear the System at all, continuing her actions.
Who knew how much time passed before she leaned against the wall in complete exhaustion, her vacant eyes staring blankly at the ceiling.
Her heart could barely beat anymore, and the blood-stained birthday crown on the devastated floor seemed to mock and ridicule her, just like the capricious voice of the System.
【Host, it seems you are a useless failure~】
【You can't do anything. You deserve to fail at protecting your lover~】
【How truly pitiful~】
