After entering the System Space, Yun Shu chose to land on the tallest building in Xindu City.
It was a drum and bell tower.
Green bricks, gray tiles, and upturned eaves.
Standing at the top of the tower, she could overlook the entire city.
She lifted her robes and sat on the roof ridge, her legs swinging freely over the edge like a child.
The setting sun was slowly sinking into the western mountains, and the clouds at the horizon were dyed in a mixture of orange-red and dark purple.
It looked like a watercolor painting where the ink had not yet dried.
The wheat fields outside the city were a sea of gold. Even from this distance, she could see the commoners, as small as ants, still busy in the fields.
The cheers were too far away to be heard, but she knew the sound was still there.
“Host.”
A fluffy white ball appeared out of thin air and landed lightly beside Yun Shu.
The little fox wagged its fluffy tail.
It sat down with its four legs together, lying down next to her with its front paws crossed on the roof tiles.
“Host, what’s wrong?” It tilted its head, its amber vertical pupils reflecting the sunset. “We earned so much Shock Value this time, and the lead male’s Favorability has risen to 50. Why don’t you look happy at all?”
Yun Shu turned her head and glanced at the little fox, her lips twitching slightly. “Do I?”
“You do,” the little fox said seriously. “I’ve been monitoring your emotional data.”
“From the moment those assassins appeared, your pleasure index plummeted, and your anxiety index shot up.”
“Also.”
“Since you left the ritual altar, you’ve been in a daze and haven't done anything. That’s not normal.”
“Before, every time you earned Shock Value, you would excitedly prepare to earn even more next time.”
Yun Shu did not respond.
She leaned back and lay down on the roof ridge, her hands pillowed behind her head. Her gaze pierced through the thin clouds toward the vast, almost ethereal blue sky.
The wind brushed past her ears, carrying the scent of wheat and the faint laughter of the commoners in the distance.
Silence lingered for a long while.
“System,” she suddenly spoke. “Tell me, is it right or wrong to sacrifice a small number of people to save a large number?”
“Is that act right or wrong?”
The little fox was stunned.
“That question is too complicated,” it said shamefully. “There isn't even a standard answer in my database.”
“But...” It looked up, its amber eyes watching Yun Shu intently. “I think that as long as it’s a decision you made, Host, it must be right.”
Yun Shu let out a helpless laugh. “You have that much faith in me?”
“Host, you are a good person.”
The little fox bit Yun Shu’s sleeve and pulled down the hand that was covering her eyes.
A translucent system panel unfolded before her.
The screen showed the wheat fields outside Xindu City.
An old man with a hunched back was kneeling on a ridge, holding a handful of wheat ears in both hands, tears streaming down his face.
He was muttering something, but it was inaudible.
Yet his trembling lips and tear-stained face were more visually striking than any sound.
Nearby, a young woman held a child. The child clutched a plump ear of wheat and giggled.
In the distance, several men worked together to lift a heavy bundle of wheat, sweat glistening on their dark backs.
There was no exhaustion on their faces.
Only a long-absent smile of contentment.
The system’s voice rang in Yun Shu’s ear. “These people were all supposed to die in a locust plague.”
The scene changed.
The system brought up the original timeline.
Locusts that blotted out the sun swept across the fields outside the city.
Wherever they passed, not a single blade of grass remained.
Commoners wept while clutching empty rice jars.
Then came the flight from famine and the tragedy of people exchanging their children for food.
Those dark frames of film formed a piercing contrast with the vibrant, smiling faces in the golden wheat fields before her.
“Host, you changed their fate,” the little fox said, its tail lightly brushing over the back of Yun Shu’s hand.
“Even though you always say you’re a fake Divine Lady, I think you’ve truly achieved it—God loves the world.”
“Don’t put me on a pedestal; it feels like you’re trying to kill me with praise.” Yun Shu reached out and rubbed the little fox’s head.
“I only did what I should have done.”
As a Party member, no matter where she was, she would never forget her original aspiration and would keep her mission firmly in mind.
She might feel lost or face great difficulties, but none of that would stop her progress.
Giving up halfway was never her style.
“Has the limited prize pool released a new set?”
Hearing Yun Shu ask, the system quickly brought up the limited prize pool interface. “Yes, the limited set this time is the Formless Myriad Set.”
“Only one set?” Yun Shu followed up.
“Yes.” The little fox nodded and explained, “The sets in the limited prize pool are refreshed randomly.”
Yun Shu clicked on the description of the Formless Myriad Set.
【Collect all parts to forge an identity.】
Good stuff!
She wasn't a real deity, after all. She had to maintain a distance from mortals, or she would easily be exposed.
Because of this, every time she finished playing the role of the Divine Lady, she had to avoid the crowds and hide in the wilderness.
If this continued, she would probably end up becoming a wild woman.
But now, things were better.
With this set, she could create an alt identity to rest in during her downtime, so she wouldn't have to sleep in the open anymore.
As for playing multiple roles herself, she wasn't considering that. Acting as the Divine Lady every day was exhausting enough; she didn't need to increase the intensity for herself.
In the end, she spent only forty thousand Shock Value to pull the entire Formless Myriad Set.
