Chapter 370 · Volume 1

The Mystery of the Sage

"Observing, analyzing, guiding, and ultimately triggering an even larger ritual?"
"Damn... all that ritual knowledge the Mother of Hell possesses—I bet the Great Sage secretly funneled it to her!"
"After all this time, it turns out the Great Sage was the mastermind behind the scenes."
Following the Fate Typewriter's account, the unsolved puzzles in Chen Xu's mind finally unraveled one by one.
Why did the Mother of Hell have such profound research into rituals? Why was she able to find the Lord of Heaven shortly after her birth and state plainly that there was a problem with the rituals?
Why could she see through the flawed method of Severing the Three Corpses spread by the Hunyuan Dao Lord? Why did she dare to perform such a major 'surgery' on her own soul?
And even though she was clearly insane, why did her schemes succeed time and again?
If a single variable—the Great Sage, the legend of the myriad realms, the incarnation of wisdom, the spokesperson of truth—was added behind all of this, then all the questions ceased to be questions.
If everything the Mother of Hell did—invading worlds, using immortal methods to treat her madness, plotting rituals—was influenced by the intervention of that Great Sage, it all became reasonable.
As expected, everyone who sought the truth became increasingly mad in the process.
Even the legendary Sage was not exempt.
Undiscovered truths and brand-new knowledge were the sweetest honey and the most fragrant wine to these ascetic seekers of truth.
Chen Xu hadn't expected that this whim of a journey would dig up such a massive secret.
In fact, Chen Xu had long harbored doubts about the Great Sage and the Truth Library.
Back when the Martial Dao Lords fell into the Mother of Hell's trap and joined forces with the Lord of Heaven to attack her, Chen Xu had used the Truth Monocle to peer into her condition.
He had obtained her status and comparative data then.
However, when Chen Xu used the Truth Monocle on himself or the Lord of Heaven, while he could obtain some analytical data, it was nowhere near as detailed as when he peered at the Mother of Hell.
Since then, Chen Xu had grown suspicious of the Truth Library behind the monocle and that legendary Sage.
Through the Fate Typewriter's account, Chen Xu's suspicions were confirmed.
Chen Xu placed his finger on the table and tapped it rhythmically. Each crisp sound sent out an invisible wave that brushed over the souls of the Fate Typewriter and Absolute Domain.
Before long, the two Sage relics woke up. As the hallucinatory feeling receded, the Fate Typewriter immediately realized what it had said.
Absolute Domain instantly lunged at the typewriter, cursing.
"You useless thing! Why did the Sage even create you in the first place!"
The Fate Typewriter twisted, pinning Absolute Domain beneath it, and retorted.
"Are you any better? If your functions hadn't failed, would the two of us have ended up like this?"
"Pah! This is a Dao Lord, a goddamn unique-tier, and the Overlord of a special world! If I had the power to contend with a Dao Lord, the first thing I'd do is scrap you, you junk typewriter!"
In an instant, the two creations were scuffling.
At that moment, Chen Xu stopped tapping. Without the rhythmic background noise, the Fate Typewriter and Absolute Domain stopped as well. They sat back down on their chairs, looking at Chen Xu like prisoners awaiting sentencing.
Chen Xu looked at them, his eyes flashing with a soul-piercing light. He applied a slight pressure with his massive mental strength and continued his questioning.
"Is the Sage... still alive? Is he the one plotting everything from behind the scenes?"
Hearing this, the two Sage creations froze, then shook their heads in unison.
"The Great Sage just vanished suddenly. As for whether he's dead or trapped in some secret realm, we don't know."
"But the projects the Sage left behind truly have no one to take them over. Over the years, it's been us creations and his students continuing to execute them."
"Among them are many valuable projects, but we've never seen the Sage appear."
In Chen Xu's soul vision, the soul fluctuations of these two Sage relics didn't look like they were lying.
Thus, Chen Xu secretly left a mark on their souls, intending to let them go.
He couldn't just watch others 'fish' all the time. Since he was now a unique-tier powerhouse himself, how could he not adopt the fine habit of being an 'angler'?
Chen Xu picked up his cup, took a small sip, and said to them, "Lord Fate, regarding the matter of Hell, please forgive my brashness. You and I share some destiny, so there's no need to be so nervous. I won't do anything to you."
"Really?"
The Fate Typewriter was overjoyed. The little green man popped out and jumped onto the table, only to be smacked back by Absolute Domain's cloak.
"Of course. You two may leave now. After all, you still have missions to attend to. I won't trouble you further."
With that, Chen Xu opened a spatial gate to the outside world.
The Fate Typewriter and Absolute Domain exchanged a glance, then blurred toward the spatial gate, speaking a sentence at extreme speed.
"Thank you for your hospitality, Lord Chen Xu."
Then they passed directly through the gate and left the Undead Dao Court.
After the two Sage relics left, Chen Xu leaned back in his chair, his mind filled with a thousand thoughts.
Should he tell the Lord of Heaven about this secret? After all, on the surface, the two of them were in the same boat, both facing the threat of the Mother of Hell.
But Chen Xu had a nagging feeling. The Lord of Heaven was trustworthy, but not entirely.
This ruler of Heaven was too 'clean,' or rather, he acted too normally.
An existence at this level should have at least ninety-nine point nine-nine schemes in his heart, if not a hundred.
Among the six special worlds, some were mad and some were dead, yet he was the only one so normal. It was impossible not to be wary.
After a long time, Chen Xu made a decision. He wouldn't inform the Lord of Heaven for now. Instead, he would focus on increasing his own strength and finishing the arrangements for the Land of the Undead.
Once the arrangements for the Land of the Undead were complete, Chen Xu would have a massive boost.
At that time, he would have the confidence to probe the true depths of Heaven.
Having made his plan, Chen Xu left the Undead Dao Court and returned to the Land of the Undead.
Arriving with him was that massive Golden Dragon Egg.
Chen Xu held his hand up, using the world power of the Land of the Undead mixed with the power of creation to slowly lift the egg.
The Golden Dragon Egg stopped once it reached the starry sky, at the point where the Sun and Moon Orbits overlapped.
Chen Xu held both hands high, pressing them against the shell from a distance as he whispered.
"Creation!"
