Chapter 252 · Volume 1

The 11th High Priest: Time

Above the skies of the Xufa World, multiple spatial gates opened.
Angels continuously flew out from them, entering the Xufa World.
Besides angels, there were also paladins, bishops, and even God-officials.
Chen Xu had already sensed the auras of five Eternal-tier beings within the Xufa World. One was Alifa, but he had never met the other four.
What was going on? Why was Heaven making such a massive move?
Previously, when they were at war with Hell, Alifa was the only Angel Priest stationed here. Now, five had arrived all at once.
As Chen Xu was pondering, yet another Angel Priest entered the Xufa World.
Moreover, this Angel Priest's aura was even more immense, far surpassing the other God-officials.
She did not wear ordinary battle armor but a soft white robe covered in complex, intersecting threads.
Behind her were not the usual wings of light, but a luminous object shaped like a spiderweb.
As Chen Xu observed her closely, the priest's flight faltered for a moment, as if she had sensed his prying eyes.
However, due to the gap in their realms, she couldn't pinpoint Chen Xu's location. She could only turn toward each direction in turn and bow.
Based on her unique attire and the murals in the cathedral of the Holy City, Chen Xu reached a conclusion.
This priest, who had sensed his gaze, was likely one of the Ten High Priests—the Priest of Fate, a master who had attained the Dao of Fate.
It was well known that principles like Causality and Fate were incredibly difficult to master.
With even one of the Ten High Priests arriving, could it be that Hell had discovered Karl's situation and was coming for revenge in a group?
Chen Xu quickly extended his perception through the world membrane of the Xufa World to check the surrounding Cosmic Sea.
In an instant, his senses covered a vast area, sweeping over hundreds of worlds. He didn't find even a trace of Hell's aura, which allowed him to breathe a sigh of relief.
Chen Xu didn't feel like guessing anymore; after all, he had a mountain of things waiting for him to handle.
Locking onto Alifa's aura, he took a step and teleported directly to him.
Since Chen Xu had been suppressing his aura and Alifa was busy talking to the other God-officials, no one noticed him for a moment.
Chen Xu spoke up proactively, "Lord Alifa, why is Heaven making such a scene? This is even grander than the previous crusade against the Demon King. Is Hell coming for revenge?"
Suddenly hearing an unfamiliar voice, the other God-officials grew tense instantly. They subconsciously raised their scepters, and their secret tomes were activated, pages flipping rapidly as Holy Light divine arts were prepared for launch.
One quick-reacting priest had already activated the array engraved on his armor, deploying a shield of Holy Light that enveloped the group.
Fortunately, Alifa spoke up in time to stop their overreaction.
"Everyone, there is no need to be tense. This is the Lord of the Undead from the Land of the Undead, His Excellency Chen Xu."
Alifa reached out his right hand and tapped the Holy Light shield, causing it to burst and scatter into points of light.
Then, Alifa walked up to Chen Xu and performed a standard Heavenly salute.
Times were different now. They were no longer peers of the same rank. Ever since learning that Chen Xu was the unique-tier Lord of the Undead, a certain distance had inevitably formed in Alifa's heart.
Even as comrades who had defeated a Hell Archduke together, their relationship had undergone a subtle change.
"Your Excellency Chen Xu, I am deeply grateful that you could attend my Coronation Ceremony. Please wait a moment; the grand assembly will begin in three days."
Hearing this, Chen Xu's eyebrow twitched in surprise.
"Coronation Ceremony? You're being promoted to a Numbered High Priest?"
Normally, the rank of God-official was the end of the line in the Heavenly pantheon. The Lord of Heaven sat high above as the undisputed absolute sovereign.
Below him were the various God-officials.
And within the God-officials, the Ten High Priests stood at the top. When the Lord of Heaven was absent, the Ten High Priests took command and issued orders.
Since Alifa was already an Angel Priest, a coronation naturally meant he was being promoted to a Numbered High Priest like the Ten. He certainly wasn't being promoted to something like the Crown Prince of Heaven.
Heaven was different from the Land of the Undead. Since ancient times, that one being had sat firmly on the throne. Any existence that dared to offend him had been burned to ash by the Holy Light. Even the ancient Sun God of the past met such a fate; the Mother of Hell was the only exception.
"Indeed. Eliminating a Hell Archduke and sealing a Demon King of Hell is a victory the likes of which Heaven has not seen in a long time."
"The Great Lord of Heaven was very pleased and bestowed divine power and secret treasures to help me break through. He also appointed me as the 11th High Priest."
"Of course, besides the Great Lord of Heaven, I must also thank you, Your Excellency Chen Xu."
Alifa knew very well that simply eliminating a Hell Archduke and sealing a Demon King wasn't nearly enough to reach the threshold of a Numbered High Priest.
Especially since, between those two events, he was only the main force for the former, while he was merely an assistant for the latter.
Being able to receive such an honor and a special promotion from the Lord of Heaven was likely due to Chen Xu's influence.
Chen Xu was a Lord of the Undead. Besides his own unique-tier strength, he had the massive Land of the Undead behind him. If those trillions of undead could join the battlefield, it would definitely deal a heavy blow to Hell.
To win over Chen Xu and bridge the gap between them, and also to show how much Heaven valued him, the Lord of Heaven had specially promoted Alifa to become a Numbered High Priest.
Having a Numbered High Priest act as the liaison to the Lord of the Undead would demonstrate Heaven's respect.
Alifa guessed that his own efforts probably accounted for five percent of this promotion, while the other ninety-five percent came from Chen Xu.
He had truly experienced what it felt like for the chickens and dogs to ascend to heaven along with the master.
By sensing Alifa's soul fluctuations, Chen Xu quickly realized the situation. It turned out he had become Alifa's golden benefactor.
But that was fine. It was easier to get things done with an acquaintance. In the future, when contacting Heaven, he would have someone he could talk to—or rather, an angel he could talk to.
For many decisions in the Heavenly pantheon, ordinary God-officials might have limited power, but it was no problem for a Numbered High Priest.
For instance, the high-tier Holy Light Cores Chen Xu wanted to buy would require a Numbered High Priest's approval.
"Lord Alifa, I wonder what your title is? Is it based on a Dao principle or a feat?"
Generally, the title of a Numbered High Priest reflected their own Dao or their achievements. For example, the Priest of Fate he saw earlier was titled after her mastery of the Dao of Fate.
Meanwhile, the Priest of Courage, who had previously faced the Demon King of Destruction head-on, was titled after his combat style and feats.
Hearing Chen Xu's question, Alifa smiled and straightened his posture. A phantom of a clock appeared behind him as he spoke.
"The 11th High Priest: Time."
