Chapter 225 · Volume 1

The Calamity Dragon

Two copper mirrors stood before him; the one on the left reflected a bone dragon, while the one on the right showed a stone tablet.
The copper mirrors were an extension of Taiyin’s patrol function, allowing Chen Xu to sense the auras of these two necrotic archdukes through the glass.
The bone dragon on the left radiated a dense calamity power. Upon its pitch-black bones, that power flickered incessantly.
Such active calamity power was simply contrary to common sense.
Generally speaking, special high-tier powers like calamity or tribulation were by nature hidden and accumulative.
Masters of such paths usually preferred to scheme from behind the scenes, weaving a web of calamity that ensnared fate by slowly burying calamity nodes.
Only when the prey had completely fallen into the web and was so entangled by the power of calamity that escape was impossible would the trap be detonated.
Once the power of calamity fully manifested, the victim would find the entire world—heaven, earth, gods, demons, and ghosts—to be their enemy. Everything they saw would turn against them.
Human strength has its limits, but the power of the world is infinite.
Most who fell into such a web could not escape the fate of perishing.
But the calamity power on this bone dragon was unnaturally active. It didn't seem like calamity at all; instead, it behaved like fire or lightning—powers that were inherently violent and volatile.
Chen Xu had no doubt that if this bone dragon were thrown into Blue Star or any other world, it could trigger a world-ending catastrophe in an instant.
Suddenly, the bone dragon in the mirror turned its head. Its gaze shifted away from the moon in the sky and pierced through layers of space to look directly at Chen Xu.
“Heh, the petty tricks of the living. Human, I know not by what means you obtained the qualification for the authority of the Lord of the Undead.
“But I, the sovereign of calamity, the grandmaster of fate, the immortal eternal bone dragon—Lothar the Calamity Dragon—shall grant you your destined death.”
A strange smile appeared on Lothar the Calamity Dragon's face. Though it had no eyes, Chen Xu could read the meaning expressed through its empty sockets.
Contempt, amusement—as if it were toyed with a prey that could be crushed at will.
“Taiyin, give it a taste of Heavenly Punishment. Let’s see what it’s made of.”
Chen Xu didn't understand where this bone dragon got its confidence. If one were to rank them by the time they had spent at the eternal-tier, he would actually be considered the senior.
“As you command, God-Lord.”
Taiyin responded to Chen Xu’s order and mobilized her Heavenly Punishment function.
In the next moment, the moon above Lothar emitted a peculiar ripple.
A massive amount of lunar essence spread outward from within the moon. Subsequently, these waves of lunar essence merged into the Land of the Undead one after another.
At that moment, a strange sensation arose in Lothar’s heart. In the darkness, it sensed that it had been locked onto.
Moreover, the entity locking onto it was the very world in which it lived.
Crack.
Lothar slowly stood up from the ground. Its movements were slow and elegant, showing no sign of panic.
Then, two slender bone wings unfurled outward. It raised its head high, tilting it slightly to use one eye to stare at Chen Xu.
Proud and conceited, Lothar did not dodge or hide in the face of the unknown threat. Instead, it remained in place, displaying its form to provoke its opponent.
Vrrr! Boom!
A beam of lunar essence appeared out of thin air, striking Lothar directly.
A violent shockwave rippled outward. The lunar essence, carrying Taiyin power, flash-froze everything in the vicinity.
In the blink of an eye, this region contaminated by calamity was purified by the pristine lunar essence.
As the beam of lunar essence slowly faded, a massive ice sculpture of a bone dragon stood on the field.
Even after enduring a Heavenly Punishment strike from Taiyin, Lothar maintained its arrogant, provocative posture.
Observing through the copper mirror, Chen Xu sensed that Lothar’s aura had not diminished in the slightest. Taiyin’s Heavenly Punishment had been nothing more than an itch to it.
Sure enough, with a slight shake of its slender bone wings, Lothar broke free from the shackles of the ice.
“ROAR!!!!”
An earth-shaking dragon roar rang out as Lothar flew from the ground into the high heavens.
The flapping of its wings kicked up a violent gale, blowing away all the newly formed ice crystals.
Then, a complex runic formula manifested before Lothar’s chest. The active calamity power surged into it, and the transparent formula gradually solidified.
The pattern of this formula resembled a spider web, with pitch-black calamity power flickering across the silk like a predator sensing its prey.
Once the energy was fully charged, the runic pattern expanded outward.
A dark canopy rose, shrouding Lothar’s territory.
The moonlight was driven away by the darkness, and the patrol function was interfered with. The copper mirror’s view gradually blurred.
In the final moment, Lothar’s voice rang out once more.
“Human, I have already woven the end of your death. Wait for the descent of calamity amidst endless fear.
“Hahaha, hahahaha—”
Because Lothar’s laughter was too grating, Chen Xu simply waved his hand to dispel the copper mirror on the left, bringing instant silence.
As for Lothar’s threat, Chen Xu didn't care in the slightest.
No matter how active Lothar’s calamity power was, it still needed a point of contact to cast a curse on Chen Xu.
As long as Chen Xu did not actively interact with it, the traps it set could not be triggered.
They were both eternal-tier existences and both candidates for the Lord of the Undead. Chen Xu didn't believe Lothar, this Calamity Dragon, could just fly over and forcibly shove calamity down his throat.
That final dark canopy had merely blocked Taiyin’s observation rather than directly attacking her or applying calamity.
This suggested that Lothar’s strength was not as superb as it portrayed.
Chen Xu guessed that Lothar’s arrogance was simply the dragon nature buried in its bones acting up again.
Dragons were inherently an extremely proud and conceited race; even after becoming bone dragons, it was hard to avoid that influence.
And someone like Lothar, who possessed special power and excellent spellcasting abilities, was a prodigy among dragons. This current attitude of looking down its nose at everyone fit the stereotype perfectly.
Fortunately, Sindragosa was not a wild bone dragon; she had a master like himself to suppress her instincts.
Otherwise, with that draconic pride combined with Kunpeng’s rowdiness, it was hard to imagine how chaotic the Undead Divine Court would be.
Afterward, Chen Xu turned his gaze toward the other copper mirror.
He had observed this stone tablet for a long time, but there had been no movement from it.
Logically, an eternal-tier necrotic archduke and a candidate for the Lord of the Undead should not be so low-key.
Even if it wasn't as overbearing as Lothar, it should at least have the pride of an eternal-tier existence and respond to an enemy’s spying.
Yet this stone tablet showed no reaction at all, which was truly unusual.
“Taiyin.”
“I am here.”
“Send a few more moons to keep a close eye on this stone tablet.”
“Yes, God-Lord. What about the Calamity Dragon? Although the previous Heavenly Punishment caused no substantial damage, the purification power of the lunar essence can still interfere with the operation of calamity power.
“I estimate that if I mobilize six moons, I can suppress the Calamity Dragon’s power and prevent it from spreading beyond its territory.”
Chen Xu shook his head, indicating it wasn't necessary.
“I have my own plans for that bone dragon.”
Hearing this, Taiyin immediately redirected three moons, changing their orbits to move toward the stone tablet.
After giving Taiyin her orders, Chen Xu had Xuan Chu bring Big Boss to the Undead Divine Court.
“My Lord, you summoned me?”
During the time Chen Xu was creating Taiyin, Big Boss had been busy building the Wanbao Pavilion branches in the Land of the Undead, as well as the construction of the three open cities.
There was no other way; the money to buy those eight moons had come from Wanbao Pavilion.
That single purchase had wiped out half of Wanbao Pavilion’s liquid capital. And that was only because the planet merchant was an old friend of Big Boss and had given a discount due to the massive size of the order.
To make Wanbao Pavilion bigger and stronger, and for the sake of the position of the God of Trade, Big Boss had bet everything on Chen Xu.
Once the branches in the Land of the Undead were completed and their reputation was spread, that foundation would be enough to propel Big Boss to become the God of Trade.
Consequently, when Xuan Chu brought Big Boss to see Chen Xu, the man’s face was full of exhaustion, yet his eyes shone with an intense light.
“Big Boss, does that planet merchant friend of yours sell suns?”
