Chapter 211 · Volume 1

Land of Corruption, Breath of Flesh

Using the Starry Sky Signpost Scroll provided by Wol, Chen Xu teleported directly to the first battlefield containing greater demons, hell worms, and fallen behemoths.
Chen Xu's sudden appearance immediately alerted the Heaven's defenders stationed there. Various Holy Light spells were primed, and paladins raised their shields in unison.
Fortunately, Wol's Holy Light Teleport followed immediately after.
“Stand down!”
“Lord Wol!”
Upon seeing Wol, the surrounding defenders lowered their guard and retracted their spells.
“Everyone, retreat through the Heaven's Gate back to the camp of this realm and await further orders.”
Wol swung his longsword, opening a massive Heaven's Gate behind them.
“As you command, Lord Wol.”
Though the defenders were filled with confusion, not understanding why Wol would order a retreat, they did not hesitate.
While Hell currently held the upper hand on this battlefield, it was only because Heaven lacked the manpower to support it. Once the battles on other fields concluded and reinforcements arrived, they could have wiped out these demons in one fell swoop.
However, they had to obey Wol's command. Battle angels were not priests; they were not known for mercy, and they allowed no room for negotiation with their subordinates.
As a result, the garrison immediately pulled out of their defensive fortifications and retreated toward the Heaven's Gate.
Wol looked at Chen Xu and nodded, signaling that he could now summon his undead army.
Chen Xu snapped his fingers twice, summoning Kunpeng and Sindragosa.
“Skreeeeeee!”
As soon as Kunpeng emerged, it flamboyantly unfurled its crimson-gold wings. Spanning thousands of miles, the wings blotted out the entire sky, plunging the area below into instant darkness.
Such a terrifying size, combined with the ancient aura swirling around it—intermingled with a faint trace of divine faith—was awe-inspiring.
Wol felt a deep sense of trepidation toward the creature this necrotic archduke had summoned. As expected of an archduke from the Land of the Undead, he was a being on the same level as a high-ranking priest.
As a veteran battle angel, Wol was adept at simulating combat in his mind. Within the first five seconds of Kunpeng's appearance, he had already simulated a hundred battles against it.
The reason he ran so many simulations was that Kunpeng's aura was too complex. Wol’s perception was limited, and each scan updated his understanding of the creature's power.
But regardless of which form Kunpeng took, his simulated win rate remained abysmally low.
Next, Wol turned his gaze to the Undead Bone Dragon beside Chen Xu. It was another god-tier being. Did the necrotic archdukes of this age enjoy sharing their faith with their subordinates so much that they raised them all into godhood?
Chen Xu reached out to pat Sindragosa's skull before speaking to both of them.
“The demons in this sector are yours to deal with. Especially you, Kunpeng—you’ve just gained new power, so show me what you’ve got.”
“If you can’t outperform Sindragosa, then the treats from the Secret Treasure Palace will go to it first.”
“Whirr...”
As if to play along, Sindragosa let out an affectionate cry.
“Skreeee!”
Kunpeng let out a long shriek. Its sky-blotting wings flapped violently, whipping up a ferocious hurricane that tore toward the distant demons. Simultaneously, its massive form vanished, turning into a streak of light that followed the gale.
“Go on.” Chen Xu patted Sindragosa, signaling it to follow.
“Whirr~”
Ultimate cold power surged from within Sindragosa. Ice crystals crawled across its wings and gradually extended to its chest, forming a small piece of ice armor.
Several runes manifested upon the ice armor. Chen Xu could clearly sense that these runes had not yet connected; they remained isolated. Sindragosa’s ice armor was not yet in its complete state.
The Undead Bone Dragon could continuously draw frost aura from the Everfrost Divine Court. This change in Sindragosa indicated that its mastery over ultimate cold power had reached a new level.
After forming the ice armor, Sindragosa turned its gaze toward the distant demons. It placed its claws together in front of its chest, and a snowflake-shaped crystal of ultimate cold manifested between them. Then, the ice-crystal wings on its back glowed with a ghostly light as Sindragosa leaped past Kunpeng, plunging into the heart of the demon army.
The snowflake in its claws expanded instantly, covering tens of thousands of kilometers. Ultimate cold power bloomed, freezing everything it touched. The blood-soaked purgatory was transformed into a frozen wasteland where life was forbidden.
“Skreeee!”
Seeing Sindragosa overtake it with such a move, Kunpeng was incensed. It shrieked and fully unleashed its power. A terrifying, mountainous surge of energy erupted from its body, expanding outward. The resulting shockwave even reached the defensive fortifications built by Heaven's garrison.
Wol raised his longsword and slammed it into the ground. Holy Light energy erupted in front of him, forming a defensive barrier to block Kunpeng's energy wave.
Even from such a distance, the attenuated shockwave made Wol's barrier tremble and buckle, forcing him to continuously pour in more Holy Light energy to maintain it.
Once the wave passed, Wol withdrew his sword and looked at the two colossal beasts in the distance. This was less a battlefield and more a hunting ground for two nightmare creatures.
These two monsters belonging to the necrotic archduke were treating the demons like nothing more than points to be scored in a competition, venting their power at will.
The demons were wailing.
Wol raised his left hand and lightly brushed a small patch of frost from his pauldron. It had been caught by the stray influence of Sindragosa’s ice crystal earlier.
Wol then looked at Chen Xu and said respectfully, “Lord Chen Xu, your generals possess extraordinary strength. The demons of Hell will surely regret extending their wicked tentacles toward the Land of the Undead and provoking a powerful necrotic archduke such as yourself.”
Wol's form of address had changed—a mark of respect for the strong. The power shown by Kunpeng and Sindragosa had forced Wol to redefine his assessment of Chen Xu.
He was now convinced that Chen Xu was a top-tier necrotic archduke, a standout even in the Land of the Undead, much like Lord Alifa was among the priests.
“Lord Wol, let us proceed to the next battlefield.”
“As you command.”
Chen Xu took out the coordinate map, sensed the direction, and vanished in a teleport.
Wol followed immediately, enveloped in Holy Light as he transformed into a beam of light and streaked away.
Only the last few squads of Heaven's garrison remained, and they hurried their retreat, urging those in front to move faster.
“Move it! Don't block the gate!”
“Exactly! Those two monsters are going insane! I feel like they're going to blow up this entire world! Get out of the way!”
Thump!
A large chunk of a hell worm flew from the distance and crashed into the crowd, making the defenders even more nervous as they scrambled into the Heaven's Gate.
...
Elsewhere, Chen Xu and Wol arrived at another battlefield. The fortifications here were markedly different from the previous one.
The buildings here were covered in mysterious runes and embedded with a large number of magic crystals; the very air hummed with magical energy.
The demons on this battlefield—succubi and voodoo banshees—were masters of magic.
In truth, all Hell demons possessed some degree of magical ability; even the lowest-tier imps and fallen demons were born with basic spells.
However, succubi and voodoo banshees were considered grandmasters, capable of casting all manner of curses and mental spells at a whim.
On this battlefield, Chen Xu intended to test his gargoyle legion. He wanted to see if these world-renowned mage-killers could, under his talent enhancement, become the ultimate slayers of demon mages.
Once Wol and the garrison had fully evacuated, Chen Xu raised his hand to summon Xuan Chu and the gargoyle legion.
Upon emerging, the gargoyles immediately followed Chen Xu's orders, prying the magic crystals from the walls and scratching out the runes.
The magic arrays collapsed one after another. Such a disturbance naturally did not escape the notice of the demons outside.
Soon, the demon army began to converge on the outpost. The gargoyles lurked in the shadows of the buildings, ready to strike.
Meanwhile, Chen Xu was still selecting affixes for his gargoyles.
“I’ll take [Magic Resistance] to significantly boost their resistance, and [Mana Burn] to instantly drain the enemies' mana... What should the third one be?”
