Chapter 205 · Volume 1

Angels, Undead, and Demons

The Undead Kingdom—no, it should be called the Undead Divine Court now.
The Undead Divine Court had directly expanded Chen Xu's talent. His talent 【007】, which could previously only be applied to skills, could now be applied to all undead units within the Divine Court.
In the former Undead Kingdom, barely half of the undead units had received talent empowerment.
Powerful creatures like the Kunpeng had yet to receive Chen Xu's exclusive talent empowerment.
After this promotion, a massive number of undead units would be empowered by Chen Xu's talent, significantly boosting the strength of the undead army. Sweeping across the Land of the Undead and ascending the Supreme Throne was now within reach.
Furthermore, he had mastered the skill Undead March. With both the skill and his talent working in tandem, he could minimize battle losses, perhaps even reducing them to zero.
However, Chen Xu was in no hurry to select talent empowerments for his undead units. Having ascended to the eternal-tier, he now possessed the confidence to face Heaven. The priority was to figure out Heaven's intentions.
While this promotion hadn't taken as long as the one to the mythic-tier, two days had still passed. This meant that Heaven's visit was scheduled for tomorrow.
Tossing the Yin-attribute materials outside the Overlord's Castle, he sent a message to Zhenyuan, instructing it to feed them to the Yin Stone. Afterward, Chen Xu left the Undead Divine Court and returned to the Daxia Military Academy Base.
As he stepped through the main gates, a staff member approached and greeted him proactively.
"Mythic Chen."
"Hello."
After the polite exchange, the staff member continued, "Are you here to see Commander Xia?"
"Uh, yes."
"Then you'll need to head over to the Government Hall. Commander Xia isn't in his office right now."
"Oh, alright. Thanks for the heads-up."
"You're very welcome."
Chen Xu turned and left the Daxia Military Academy Base. He took out his Soul-Inducing Token and sent a message to Xia Qiming.
The Government Hall? Why would he be there? As the combat commander, Xia Qiming's duties should be separate from internal administration.
Chen Xu wasn't sure what had happened over the last two days, but fortunately, Xia Qiming responded quickly. After replying via the Soul-Inducing Token, he sent Chen Xu a location through his smart terminal.
With a wave of his hand, Chen Xu summoned Sindragosa and flew toward the coordinates.
Upon arrival, Chen Xu found that besides Xia Qiming and the Governor he had met during the New Year, Ye Bufan and Xiang Longwu were also present.
"Brother Ye, Brother Xiang, why are you two here? Did something big happen again?"
Xiang Longwu let out a booming laugh. "Old Xia invited us. He wanted Old Ye and me to protect him while he attends that Heavenly Banquet or whatever it's called."
As he spoke, Xiang Longwu clapped Xia Qiming on the shoulder, causing the commander to grimace slightly.
"Brother Chen, have you... promoted again?"
Ye Bufan's eyes were fixed on Chen Xu. He extended his Divine Sense to probe him, but the feedback he received was incredibly bizarre.
It was as if the person standing before him wasn't a human, or even a living creature, but rather a part of nature itself.
"Haha, Brother Ye, your perception is as sharp as ever. I did indeed promote. I'm at the eternal-tier now."
"I just finished the breakthrough, so I'm not quite used to restraining my aura yet."
At those words, everyone present except for Xia Qiming, who already knew, fell into a dead silence. Xiang Longwu, who had been grinning widely a moment ago, suddenly looked shell-shocked.
Seeing the atmosphere grow heavy, Xia Qiming broke the silence. "Come on, let's head inside. Stop staring. At least I'm here as a legendary-tier to balance the floor, right, God of War Xiang?"
Led by Xia Qiming, the five of them entered the Governor's office within the Government Hall.
Once they were seated, the Governor picked up an invitation from his desk. He looked around the room, recalled the situation outside, and handed the letter to Chen Xu first.
"This is an invitation sent by the Bald Eagle. It specifically invites Commander Xia and you, Mythic Chen, to attend the Heavenly Banquet tomorrow. Besides the two of you, you are permitted to bring three additional guests."
Chen Xu took the letter, glanced at it casually, and tossed it to Xia Qiming.
"They specifically invited me?" Chen Xu asked, puzzled.
"Yes," the Governor nodded. "I suspect it's because of the rankings."
"Most likely," Xia Qiming agreed after reading the letter. "They probably think they've found a powerful backer and want to test themselves against the number one on Blue Star."
Chen Xu chuckled but said nothing.
"From the looks of it, this Heavenly Banquet is a Hongmen Banquet," Xiang Longwu remarked while reading the letter. "It's almost certainly a trap."
"Longwu and I have been to the Outerworld Battlefield. Whether it's the angels or the demons, their strength is nothing to scoff at. Moreover, they are far from being benevolent. Angels and demons are simply different in appearance."
Ye Bufan began to recount what he and Xiang Longwu had seen in the Outerworld Battlefield.
In the vast Cosmic Sea, angels and demons treated entire worlds as their game boards, waging war across them. Once a world was shattered, they continued their slaughter in the void. In a conflict of such intensity, life and death were not even statistics; the commanders only cared about the final victory.
Ye Bufan and Xiang Longwu had once entered a random world fragment and helped an angel who was being besieged by Hell demons.
After clearing the path for the angel, the two received no gratitude. The angel merely gave them a cold glance, confirmed they possessed no aura of faith, and departed immediately.
"Damn it, if Old Ye and I hadn't stepped in, those Hell demons would have torn that winged birdman apart."
"Not a single word of thanks. And it kept its head hidden under a hood, not even showing its face," Xiang Longwu complained, feeling that the angel lacked even basic manners.
"That's normal. Angels are the guards of Heaven. They only answer to their direct Archangel or higher-ranking Priests. Generally speaking, they don't possess much emotion or spiritual intelligence—perhaps only slightly more than a skeleton soldier."
"Oh? Is that so?" Xiang Longwu asked curiously. "But the one Old Ye and I saved felt like it was at the legendary-tier. Shouldn't a legendary-tier creature have a sufficiently strong soul?"
Under normal circumstances, a creature's emotions and spiritual intelligence were closely linked to the strength of its soul. Xiang Longwu's logic was sound.
However, these were angels—and angels after that incident.
"Angels might have been sentimental once. But ever since the angels fell to Hell, the Lord of Heaven modified their origins. Their emotions were suppressed, turning them into pure warriors."
"Only those who make extraordinary contributions can have their spiritual intelligence liberated."
"What? You're saying there are angels in Hell?"
"Yes. The Archangel who led them is now a Hell Archduke, and a rather powerful one at that."
Chen Xu then began to share the secrets of Heaven with everyone present. These mysteries of the Myriad Worlds opened their eyes, causing them to nearly forget the purpose of the meeting.
Fortunately, Xia Qiming brought the conversation back on track in time.
"Let's save the gossip about Heaven for later. For this invitation, just the five of us going should be fine, right?"
As he spoke, Xia Qiming looked at Chen Xu, and the others followed suit.
Feeling the four pairs of eyes on him, Chen Xu shrugged.
"As long as the Lord of Heaven doesn't show up in person, or several Priests don't descend at once, there's nothing to fear."
...
The next day, Chen Xu's group boarded Sindragosa and boldly crossed the ocean, arriving at the Bald Eagle's territory in the west.
As they neared the banquet site, Chen Xu signaled Sindragosa to make some noise.
"Awooo—"
Sindragosa let out a thunderous roar, instantly drawing everyone's attention.
Below, a monk clad in white robes, clutching a secret tome, looked up at Sindragosa in the sky and murmured under his breath.
"Undead?"
