【Source of the Plague: The abomination was ultimately defeated by the virus within its body. The evolutionary will of the virus was stronger, and the main subject of the aberration became the plague. Within this mountain of infinitely proliferating flesh, an unknown mysterious virus is rapidly multiplying.】
After reading the experimental results on the display screen, Chen Xu didn't know what to say.
He had hoped to see if the abomination could increase in size and become tankier through Aberration, but when given the chance, it failed to deliver. It was actually suppressed by the plague virus it carried within its body.
It seemed that stitched-together monsters like abominations lacked sufficient spirituality. But then again, abominations were born for war; being too smart might actually be a disadvantage.
As for the mass of rotten meat that was the Source of the Plague, Chen Xu couldn't think of a way to handle it for the time being, as it seemed to have no mobility. And as for the mysterious virus mentioned in the description, he had no idea how powerful it was. He could only throw it into the Ancient Battlefield for now.
Having tried all three functions of the Mad Alchemy Lab, Chen Xu was generally quite satisfied.
The distillery on the first floor acted like a treasure-hunting lottery machine. He could toss in any strange or useless materials he didn't know how to handle and gamble for a reward.
The corruption modification on the second floor was a perfect fit for his skeleton army, allowing him to mass-produce high-attack suicide squads.
The aberration experiment on the third floor wasn't ideal in its initial trial. He would have to try again later when he had some spare time to see if there were any useful units worth mutating.
With the testing complete, Chen Xu planned to leave. His journey to the South Realm was over. It was time to return to Daxia and see if there were any new dungeons where he could recruit more soldiers.
"Please wait, great Lord of the Undead!"
Just as Chen Xu opened a spatial gate, preparing to return to Blue Star, a voice called out. He turned to look and saw it was the Whispering Tree.
Chen Xu closed the spatial gate and teleported beneath the Whispering Tree.
"Whispering Tree, what is it? Is Kunpeng being disobedient again?"
The Whispering Tree was essentially a master teacher of the Undead Kingdom. After it was born, Chen Xu immediately arranged for it to give lessons to Kunpeng via a remote soul channel.
But Kunpeng was far away in the depths of the ocean, spending every day playing wildly with its Bone Kun underlings. As for the Whispering Tree's remote online classes, it had heard them, studied them, and promptly forgotten them.
This led the Whispering Tree to suggest setting up a curriculum assessment, with Chen Xu acting as the proctor and final arbiter of rewards and punishments. That day, Kunpeng displayed an unprecedented talent for language; the Soul Communication channel for the skeleton heroes was filled with nothing but Kunpeng's curses.
Unfortunately for Kunpeng, Chen Xu had agreed with the Whispering Tree's suggestion. Since then, the Whispering Tree's favorability rating with Kunpeng had hit rock bottom at -100.
So, hearing the Whispering Tree call him, Chen Xu thought Kunpeng was acting up again.
He had extremely high expectations for Kunpeng. The Sea God's authority was already a guaranteed matter, and Chen Xu didn't want Kunpeng to become a god who only knew how to use brute force.
"No, Lord Kunpeng's attitude toward learning has been good lately. I was merely curious about this wondrous alchemy lab. I would like to request the Lord of the Undead's permission to use it for my research."
"Oh, sure. But the lab is a bit far from you. I'll assign a hundred ghosts to you; you can control them to conduct the experiments."
"Great Lord of the Undead, your mercy makes even the Lord of Heaven pale in comparison."
Chen Xu waved his hand. He simply felt that having someone conduct experiments for him would save him time. Once the Whispering Tree figured out some useful formulas, he could just apply them directly.
His main profession wasn't research; everything else existed only to serve his strength.
"You can experiment with the skeleton units as you like. As for high-tier units, excluding bone dragons and Bone Kuns, you have a limit of five experiments per day."
After giving his instructions, Chen Xu opened a spatial gate and returned to Blue Star.
He took out his Soul-Inducing Token and sent a message to Tang Hezhou, wanting to catch up with his senior.
After a while, instead of a reply from Tang Hezhou, he received a call request from Xia Qiming.
"Hello, Teacher Xia."
"Do you have anything else left to do in the South Realm?"
"No, I've finished everything. In fact, I was about to ask you if Daxia has any new dungeons for me to clear. My undead army is still too small, and I'm lacking a sense of security."
"There are no other dungeons, only Hanyuan."
"Huh? Hanyuan? Didn't you say there was another plan for that?"
"Plans can't keep up with changes. Hanyuan has erupted, and our base has been overrun."
"What?"
Chen Xu switched the interface on his smart terminal to check the time. Not much time had passed. How could Hanyuan have erupted so suddenly, and how did the Daxia Military Academy lose its base?
"Weren't Daxia's powerhouses all stationed at Hanyuan? They couldn't hold it?"
"Sigh," Xia Qiming sighed. "There's an old saying in Daxia: 'A swarm of ants can bite an elephant to death.' The Hanyuan eruption was sudden, and the number of cold ghosts far exceeded historical records. For every one we kill, two more immediately take its place. There's no end to them.
Moreover, those cold ghosts have a resurrection trait. They respawn faster than we can kill them. Plus, like your skeletons, they know no fear or exhaustion. But our powerhouses aren't perpetual motion machines."
"Since you put it that way, I'll have to go and see for myself. They can actually compare to my skeletons?"
Chen Xu's competitive spirit was piqued by Xia Qiming's words.
"I've spoken to the archons sent to the South Realm. Go find them and take their plane back to Daxia. Come straight to the South Abyss."
"No need for the trouble. I have my own exclusive fighter jet."
Chen Xu teleported to an open space, opened a spatial gate to the Undead Kingdom, and brought his exclusive fighter jet back to Blue Star.
He had specially placed this fighter jet, a gift from Xia Deliang, into the Undead Kingdom before coming to the South Realm. He had even built a landing pad on the Overlord's Castle just to park it.
"Alright then, I'll wait for you at Hanyuan."
After the call ended, Chen Xu jumped onto the fighter jet.
"Fuxi, set destination to Hanyuan City and plan the route."
"Received. Destination: Hanyuan City. Planning route... Planning complete. Total distance: 6,000 kilometers. Please fasten your seatbelt. Navigation starting."
...
Hanyuan City.
Due to the sudden eruption of Hanyuan, Daxia was evacuating the city's civilians.
High in the sky, a fighter jet approached at high speed, letting out a massive roar.
As it reached the city center, the jet began to decelerate, eventually coming to a stop at the northern city gate.
Chen Xu opened the canopy and jumped out of the cockpit. He didn't bother looking for a parking spot; he simply put the jet back into the Undead Kingdom and flew down.
After stowing the jet, Chen Xu looked north outside the city. That was where Hanyuan lay.
In Chen Xu's perception, Hanyuan was like a block of freezing ice. However, this ice block had now been thrown into a warm place and was melting.
To survive, the ice block had decided to transform the surrounding environment.
