Chapter 49 · Volume 1

Game Shop

【You have successfully completed your class change. Requirements met.】
【Game Shop unlocked】
【Player Guild System unlocked】
Nan Cheng stared blankly for a second at the two system announcements popping up in front of him before his eyes suddenly widened.
“The Game Shop?!” An expression of delight washed over his face. “After playing for so many days, I can finally check out the shop!”
Without the slightest hesitation, he immediately opened the Game Shop interface to take a look.
The Game Shop was clearly divided into five main tabs:
【Equipment】
【Skills】
【Accessories】
【Items】
【Player Shops】
Nan Cheng quickly skimmed the five tabs and tapped on 【Equipment】 without hesitation.
The next instant, a dazzling list of equipment unfolded before him. A few items were framed in striking purple, while the vast majority were stacked in green and blue.
“Holy crap?!”
The array of equipment was overwhelming, but his eyes lit up immediately at the purple ones.
However, he wasn't clear on how equipment rarity was classified in this game, so he muttered to himself:
“Purple gear? I wonder what grade that is. Different games use different color-coding standards, but purple is usually high-tier gear, most likely Epic quality.”
Regardless, purple gear couldn't be too bad.
He thought to himself.
Soon, however, Nan Cheng's confusion vanished as an explanation of equipment rarity appeared on the interface.
Equipment quality in Glorious Era was divided into seven tiers:
Gray Damaged, White Common, Blue Rare, Green Superior, Purple Epic, Gold Legendary, Red Mythic!
“Hiss... The highest tier is Red Mythic?! Are those divine artifacts?!”
Nan Cheng took a sharp breath. Without hesitation, his fingers swiped down rapidly, eager to see what Red gear looked like.
To his disappointment, however, he didn't see any Red equipment.
“Are they not listed yet?”
“Makes sense. How could there be divine artifacts during the beginner phase? Even if there were, I probably couldn't afford them anyway.”
Shaking his head, Nan Cheng stopped dwelling on it. He casually tapped on a Purple Epic item near the top of the list to inspect its details:
【Equipment Name: Warrior's Sword】
【Equipment Type: One-Handed Longsword】
【Equipment Quality: Purple Epic】
【Equipment Effects: "Sharpness," "Armor Break," "Flash"】
【Recommended Level: 10+】
【Recommended Class: Knight】
【Equipment Description: Crafted by an unknown artisan, this blade once belonged to a human adventurer. By a twist of fate, it was lost forever in the vast expanse of Starfall Forest. Deep, clear patterns run along the blade; despite enduring countless brutal battles, it remains rock-solid and resilient. Only a true warrior is worthy to wield it! Even when surrounded by foes and weighed down by wounds, a warrior will never lay down their blade!】
“This item lore is actually pretty epic.” Nan Cheng's heart thrashed with excitement, nearly forgetting he was a Mage. “It almost makes me want to grab one and go hacking away at mobs.”
Smiling, he scrolled down to check the price, but the moment his eyes landed on the number, his smile froze completely.
He counted the digits one by one: “One, two, three, four... Holy crap?! A whole 10,000 Merit Points?!!”
Nan Cheng's mouth opened into a perfect “O,” remaining agape for a long while.
He silently shifted his gaze to the top-right corner—
8,500.
That was his entire life savings after grinding hard for a full day.
“I'm... I'm short by 1,500...”
He suddenly felt that the glow on that Warrior's Sword was far too dazzling, so bright it actually made his eyes sting.
The bigger shock was yet to come.
He noticed a small red number in the top-right corner of the Purple item's frame: Stock: 36.
Nan Cheng froze for a second before blowing his top:
“Holy crap?! Limited edition?! Is it a limited run?! Only 36 available?! Once they're gone, they're gone?!”
In an instant, he felt an intense urge to run out onto the streets and move bricks to earn Merit Points.
Unfortunately, there were no streets here, nor bricks, and moving bricks wouldn't earn him Merit Points anyway.
And in the few seconds he stood dazed, the remaining stock of the Warrior's Sword ticked down rapidly, dropping by several units in a flash.
At the same time, Bruce's smug, boisterous laughter echoed from the side:
“Hahaha! I'm officially a man wielding Purple gear now! Man, the appearance of this Warrior's Sword is so damn cool!”
Nan Cheng turned around to see Bruce holding a knightly longsword gleaming with silver light, executing a flashy sword flourish with his chin held high. Immediately after, Bruce threw his beginner wooden sword aside with a face full of disdain:
“This trash starter gear—even dogs wouldn't use it.”
With a flash of white light, the wooden sword vanished into thin air.
Nan Cheng: “...”
He was taken aback by what he had just witnessed.
“Did... did the system recycle his starting equipment?”
After giving it a moment's thought, he quickly rejected that conclusion. After all, he hadn't seen any buyback or recycling function in the system interface.
However, the Game Shop did have a Player Shops tab.
Nan Cheng surmised that Bruce had probably put his starter gear directly up for sale on the Player Shop tab.
“That guy... he really refuses to take a single loss.”
He grumbled under his breath, no longer paying attention to Bruce showing off. Switching back to the shop, he opened the equipment category filter and selected 【Mage Equipment】.
Indeed, the Equipment tab was divided into several sub-categories labeled "All," "Knight Equipment," "Mage Equipment," "Priest Equipment," "Assassin Equipment," and "Ranger Equipment."
The moment the category refreshed, more than half of the page went blank.
While Knight equipment was packed across several pages, the Mage section had only a scattered few Green and Blue items hanging there lonely. Scrolling further down revealed two rows of purple-bordered gear, but their icons were completely grayed out, clearly stamped with three big characters: 【Sold Out】, making them impossible to purchase.
“No way? Mage Purple gear is that popular?” Nan Cheng frowned and tapped in to check the price. But the moment he did, he froze on the spot.
The top item, an Elemental Staff with a purple border and Epic quality, had its price clearly displayed: 100,000 Merit Points.
“One hundred thousand Merit Points??!!!”
“Fuck! Who's that rich?!”
Nan Cheng stared in utter shock, counting the zeroes twice to make sure he hadn't misread it.
Just moments ago he thought the 10,000-point Warrior's Sword was absurdly expensive, but Mage gear was ten times higher?!
“Holy shit! Are Mages a noble class or something? The starting barrier is ten times higher than a Knight's? Who is this? Who accumulated a hundred thousand Merit Points on day one?! Did they give up their liver?!”
Nan Cheng took a heavy emotional blow. He had been secretly proud of his 8,000-plus Merit Points, considering himself part of the top tier, but he never expected a top player's reserves to reach such an absurd level.
Taking a deep breath, he silently clutched his chest, feeling a strange ache in his liver.
Well, guess there's plenty of grinding ahead.
