Chapter 95 · Volume 1

Rainy Night Theater (20)

Filament had died from accidentally drinking water infused with the poisonous fruit, not from the poison that came with the Madmen.
In other words, even if Fu Liu's poison was still in his hands and unused, it proved nothing.
It did not clear him of suspicion.
“I believe it wasn't you,” Bai Ci said, gently patting Fu Liu's shoulder before turning to face the crowd.
She defended him with a firm tone. “This isn't because of any girlfriend bias. Logically speaking, killing Wu Tong does absolutely nothing for Fu Liu.”
Bai Ci glanced sideways at the notice Cheng Xi had photographed on her camera, which explained the nature of the poisonous fruit.
Having confirmed the details about the poisonous fruit, Bai Ci felt even more confident in her deduction.
She pointed at the water cup and the fruit on the floor, continuing, “The toxicity of this fruit easily dissolves in hot water, and drinking it is enough to kill a person within minutes.”
“Think about what happens in daily life. What happens to a fresh fruit after it sits in hot water for a long time? The fruit Brother Fu just picked up clearly still had a fresh peel, which means it wasn't in the water for very long.”
“Wu Tong was poisoned in her own dormitory, which is a single room. In the brief window between her leaving her room and going back inside, there's no way all of us standing in the hallway were so blind that we didn't see anyone enter her room, right?”
“If it wasn't a person, could it be a ghost?” The muscular man was completely bewildered. It seemed like whoever spoke made sense.
“Yes,” Bai Ci nodded.
“What do you mean, 'yes'? Why are you nodding?” Sun Hao frowned.
“Before, I didn't know who the Madmen were, so I didn't notice any issues,” Bai Ci explained. “But now that I know Weiwei and Fu Liu are both Madmen, the deaths over the past two days seem a bit strange.”
“In Werewolf, besides the wolves and the good guys, some setups also feature a third-party faction that doesn't belong to either side.”
“The rule sheet only mentioned Madmen and Citizens, but does that really mean there are only Madmen and Citizens in this game? Why don't we verify this together? Let's confirm it under everyone's witness.”
“Could everyone give me some time to present my evidence and deductions?”
“So formal, it's giving me goosebumps,” Sun Hao was the first to agree, though his words were a bit snarky. “Go ahead if you want to speak. We searched for so long yesterday and found nothing anyway, so we can spare a few minutes for you.”
“Let's see what kind of fancy story you can spin.” The muscular man didn't object, which meant he agreed.
“Go ahead, tell us,” Fu Yan agreed explicitly.
With everyone present in agreement, Cheng Xi also nodded. In fact, she might have actually been the first to agree.
Because back when Sun Hao first opened his mouth, she had already dragged a chair out from Filament's room and sat down. Why stand when you could sit and listen?
Bai Ci turned to look at Fu Liu, her tone gentle. “Fu Liu, I know what kind of person you are, so I'm willing to believe your words.”
“But they don't know you. It's only natural that they won't believe you just on your word alone. That's why we need evidence.”
“You'll cooperate with me, right?”
Fu Liu nodded. Looking at Bai Ci's trusting eyes, the panic and helplessness in his heart gradually dissipated. With her speaking in such a gentle tone, he probably would have nodded even if she asked him to die.
“Now, can you tell me how the Madmen operated at night over these past two days? You don't need to name the specific Madmen. Just tell me how you acted, or what you discussed doing.” Bai Ci specifically said “tell me,” not “tell us.”
Fu Liu's voice was a bit hoarse. “On the first night, the four of us Madmen met up. Neither Liu Siwei nor I wanted to kill anyone. The other two couldn't convince us, so we reached a compromise.”
“We agreed not to kill anyone on the first night. We would look for clues first, and then make a decision after seeing how things went during the day.”
“But the worker died on the first night,” Bai Ci pointed out the reality.
“Yes. But it wasn't me, and I knew it shouldn't be Liu Siwei either, so I assumed it was one of the other two who did it.”
“Last night, we met up again. We originally planned to look for clues as you all suggested during the day, and we also wanted to figure out who killed Liu Shanxi.”
“But we waited for a long time, and she never showed up. We went upstairs to look for her, only to find that she was already dead. Since each Madman's departure time is staggered, I couldn't be sure who did it.”
“But whoever it was, it had to be one of the other two. In other words, their poison has been depleted. The last remaining poison in the Madman team is in my hands. That's also why I didn't step forward when Wu Tong questioned me.”
“Compared to searching aimlessly for clues to break the deadlock, winning by killing the Madmen would be much easier for the others. If I had confessed everything, I would have been the first to die.”
“I want to leave this place with my baby. We're going to grow old together.”
Bai Ci nodded. With two poisonless Madmen and one who still possessed poison, if the crowd decided to shift their focus to killing the Madmen to secure a victory, Fu Liu would indeed be the prime target.
“Can you show us your poison now?” Bai Ci asked.
Fu Liu immediately pulled out his identity card. A dark green vial of poison slid into his palm, the syringe completely intact, clearly never used.
Bai Ci also fished her identity card out of her pocket and produced her own poison. As the Doctor, she also had a vial of poison.
She held the poison up in front of everyone. “This is my poison. It hasn't been used either.”
“Everyone, let's do the math,” Bai Ci said, looking at the crowd as she laid out the facts clearly. “The Madman faction has four people, each with one vial of poison. As the Doctor, I also have one vial. This means there are at most five vials of poison in this battle royale.”
“The worker died from poison, consuming one vial; Liu Siwei committed suicide, consuming another; and plus the poison used to kill Liu Shanxi, that makes a total of three consumed.”
“Right now, neither Fu Liu's poison nor mine has been used. If there is no third party, then the poisons of the remaining two Madmen should have already been used.”
“Therefore, I suggest everyone return to their dormitories for a brief moment to let the Madman team verify the number of poisons among themselves.”
“If the remaining two Madmen have indeed used both of their poisons, then there's nothing more to say—I simply overthought things. I will hand over my poison for everyone to use, and I won't interfere with how you decide to use it.”
“But if their poisons haven't been used, or even if only one of them has been used, it proves that a third party definitely exists, and that this third party used poison to kill someone.”
Fu Yan thought for a moment before raising a question. “Is it possible that the Madmen can find extra poison from the various scenes in the hallway?”
Fu Liu shook his head, his tone certain. “Impossible. Our identity cards explicitly state that each Madman only has one vial of poison. There is no mention of being able to obtain extra poison from the scenes.”
“Besides, we didn't even take action at night over the past two days, and we all moved together during the day. If anyone had found extra poison, everyone would have seen it.”
“Alright, I have no more questions,” Fu Yan nodded.
The others nodded one after another, each turning back to return to their respective dormitories.
After what felt like a few minutes, Fu Liu shouted from outside, “Everyone, you can come out now.”
