The Maglev Bus carried the Tianqi School Team members through the Monte Region's floating islands, heading towards the central area.
The scenery outside the window was breathtaking.
Floating islands of all sizes hung in the air; some were covered in dense vegetation, while others were filled with uniquely styled buildings.
Light bridges connected the islands like rainbows, and occasionally, Beast Tamers riding flying pets could be seen soaring past the window.
“Look!” Li Chengying suddenly pointed ahead, her voice rising with excitement. “That's the Sky Colosseum!”
Everyone looked in the direction she was pointing and held their breath.
In the very center of the floating islands, a magnificent arena floated in the sky.
It was a massive complex composed of dozens of floating platforms of varying sizes, arranged in a circular shape.
Dozens of floating island battle zones of different sizes surrounded it, each connected by transparent light bridges.
Even more astonishing, these floating platforms were not stationary; they slowly rotated, ascended, and descended. Some even moved along fixed orbits, tracing complex paths across the sky.
“This... this is too big, isn't it?” Li Chengying murmured.
Gao Xue, uncharacteristically, didn't refute her; she just stared blankly out the window.
Ouyang Qin crossed her arms, her gaze sharply sweeping over the floating platforms. “No wonder they say the Sky Colosseum changes every few months; the positions and heights of these platforms are constantly being adjusted.”
Liu Yi remained silent, intently observing the platforms' movement patterns.
Ziyue crouched at her feet, her purple eyes also fixed on the window, ears twitching slightly as if catching some information. Chiying hovered beside her, its crimson eyes narrowed slightly, golden patterns softly flickering with its breath.
The Maglev Bus smoothly came to a stop on a massive floating island, which served as the Sky Colosseum's entrance area.
After getting off, the team members followed Wei Xiuyu across a light bridge to the periphery of the Central Main Arena.
Many people had already gathered here. School Team members in various uniforms waited in an orderly fashion under the guidance of their respective coaches, ready to enter the venue.
“So many schools...” Li Chengying muttered softly.
Gao Xue looked around. “118 schools, 15 people per school, that's 1770 contestants. Plus coaches, staff members, referees... there are at least two or three thousand people here today.”
After crossing the light bridge, the Tianqi School Team followed Wei Xiuyu to the waiting area outside the main arena.
A long queue had already formed here, with School Team members from various schools entering the venue in order, guided by staff.
Liu Yi looked around, and everywhere she saw were contestants wearing different uniforms.
The deep blue of Skywing High School, the dark red of Blazing Sun High School, the gold and white of Golden Scale Academy, the dark green of Monte Beast Taming Academy... every team exuded high spirits, their pets either crouching or standing, quietly waiting to enter.
“It truly is a national-level tournament,” Gao Xue murmured with a sigh.
Li Chengying stood on her tiptoes, looking around, then suddenly nudged Gao Xue with her elbow. “Look over there, it's Fugang Beast Taming High School! Is that first-year boy standing at the front Pei Yingwu?”
Everyone followed her gaze.
A team in gray-blue uniforms stood not far away, led by a gloomy-faced first-year boy. His hands were in his pockets, his chin slightly raised, and his gaze indifferently swept over his surroundings.
No pet accompanied him.
More precisely, the space beside him was empty, a stark contrast to the pets crouching or standing by other contestants.
“His Nightblade Wolf is probably in his Beast Taming Space,” Wei Tan'an whispered. “Inherited Advanced pets rarely stay by their owners' side all the time like pets raised from a young age.”
Liu Yi's gaze lingered on Pei Yingwu for a moment.
The person seemed to sense something, suddenly turned his head, and his gaze pierced through the crowd, meeting Liu Yi's eyes precisely.
Their eyes met across the space.
Pei Yingwu narrowed his eyes slightly, a half-smile playing on his lips, then shifted his gaze as if nothing had happened.
“He seems to know you?” Li Chengying asked, puzzled.
Liu Yi shook her head. “I don't know him.”
“Then why was he looking at you?”
“Probably because of the Beast Tamer Association's announcement,” Gao Xue speculated. “Liu Yi and her two pets are quite famous in the Monte Region now.”
The waiting line slowly moved forward.
When it was finally the Tianqi School Team's turn, a staff member in a referee uniform guided them through the security gate and onto the light bridge leading into the main arena.
The light bridge was made of translucent energy material, and stepping on it offered a clear view of the floating islands below.
Ziyue curiously pressed her paw against the bridge surface, found it unexpectedly stable, and then confidently followed Liu Yi.
After crossing the light bridge, the sight before them made everyone hold their breath.
The full grandeur of the Sky Colosseum was finally revealed.
At its center was a massive main arena, circular in structure, surrounded by dozens of floating island battle zones of varying sizes. Liu Yi quickly counted, finding at least forty of them.
Each battle zone consisted of several floating islands—some had three to five, others seven or eight, and the largest group even had over a dozen, like stars scattered across the sky.
These floating islands were not stationary.
Some rotated slowly, others bobbed up and down, and some gently moved along fixed elliptical orbits. There were no connections between the islands, only a surging sea of clouds and howling high-altitude winds.
“How are we supposed to battle like this?” Li Chengying asked, dumbfounded. “If pets fight on a floating island, what if they fall off?”
Just as she finished speaking, a staff member began explaining the rules. “Attention, contestants! Each battle zone is covered by an energy protection shield, which activates automatically when a battle begins. Even if a pet falls from a floating island during combat, it will be caught by the shield and teleported back to the battle zone. Beast Tamers will use maglev skateboards to observe and command from above the islands, also protected by a shield, so there's no need to worry about falling.”
He paused, then added, “But please note, the protection shield only prevents falls and skill leakage; it will not interfere with the battle process. If a pet is knocked out and unable to continue fighting, the match will still be decided, and the battle will end.”
“So, we have to ride maglev skateboards while commanding our pets in battle?” Wei Tan'an asked, her brow slightly furrowed.
